Dar Sultan is located in a very nice part of the Kasbah, it is close to the museum which is a quiet neighborhood. The house is very beautifully decorated with great taste and it has an authentic atmosphere. We stayed in the room at the top of the house, with a private terrace and incredible views on Tanger. The very best you can wish for! The hospitality is unsurpassed! The staff is most welcoming for people of all religions and backgrounds. And they do everything to make you feel at home and be happy while you are there! Really very special! Breakfast is great, and everyday a bit different. On request they may cook for you an evening meal, and that was truly great. We enjoyed it so much! Thank you very much! Dar Sultan by itself already justifies a visit to Tanger!

I stayed at 5 Riyadhs in Morocco and this was the very best. It is located on top of a hill with views of the Medina and Tangier. The rooms and common areas are very well decorated and downright pretty. Breakfast was an elaborate spread of deliciousness and if the place wasnt perfect enough they added 7* staff. Hajar, Nadia, and Tariq and all staff members were the sweetest most helpful people who went out of their way to make sure I had the best stay possible. The hotel is a quick walk from the Medina, Tangier Marina and many attractions. They offer air port pickup and set me up with an English speaking guide. Thanks Dar Sultan

Looking for a nice place to stay our first night in Tangier and found the Dar Sultan. Turned out to be an excellent choice. It's a little tough to find in the Kasbah and we allowed a local "guide" to show us the way. Cost me 5 Euros but I think it may have been tough to find on one's own. We were very early but we were welcomed in and allowed to leave our luggage while we explored. They suggested a guide, this worked well for us. Kareem, his brother Hassan and Moustafa all teamed up to give us an excellent tour of the city. Our room was on the top floor with sweeping views of the city, just beautiful! We had our own private terrace as well. The bed had rose petals laid out and robes too. The shower was pretty tiny for a bigger person but this was a minor inconvenience. They cooked us a fresh breakfast that kept us fueled for the entire day too. The owner was very helpful and the staff attended to our needs. Be warned cash only! But really one of the best hotel experiences we have ever had.

Tangier was the last stop in Morocco and it was really important for us to have a quality place to stay in our last two days in Morocco. The Dar Sultan did not disappoint and actually exceeded our expectations. From the moment we arrived it was excellent, the staff was always courteous and attentive. We were joyfully greeted by at least four different staff members upon our arrival and were offered mint tea and delicious pastries upon our arrival. The lobby area is beautifully appointed and is as welcoming as the staff. There are two very cute house cats and a fountain with rose petals right there in the lobby. The room was on the small side but nicely appointed and very comfortable. The Dar Sultan is a former residence and obviously great lengths were put into making it what it is today, so it is very charming. The WiFi worked great in our room. The maid service was top notch. They will fold all clothes left out and put everything away too so please take note of that. The breakfast they served was the best one we had in Morocco and we had a lot of very good breakfasts, including at the Four Seasons in Marrakech. We also decided on our last night that we wanted to stay in for dinner so they made us a fantastic meal of soup, warm vegetable salad, and chicken tangine. This is not included but was 25 euros per person. Totally worth it. The desert was delightful. They assisted us in getting out the door at 3:45am to the taxi they arranged. It is clear to me that the handful of tepid reviews are either old or based on unusual circumstances so do not let those deter you from staying at this wonderful establishment. Although this is a guest house, the staff at Dar Sultan went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. If you want a true Tangier experience stay in one of the beautiful rooms at this guesthouse in the Kasbah. Clean, fun, authentic Tangier. Lydia's dinner was one of the best meals we've every had. A gem!!

Adorable little guest house. Rooms are clean, staff is very friendly and helpful, service is prompt, breakfast is plentiful and delicious. Every room is differently furnished. Our room was directly on the rooftop terrace. The entire house is decorated in traditional style. The atmosphere is calm, relaxing and cozy. Fires burn in the fireplace in winter. Couple of things to consider though: The rooms are small, doors narrow and ceilings low, as is often the case in old city buildings. The stairs are narrow and steep. Big, bulky luggage or people with mobility issues may not be the best idea here. The staff, however, has no trouble navigating the stairs with your luggage or big trays for breakfast on the rooftop terrace. Located in a quiet side alley within 2 minutes walking distance from the Kasbah. If you're not comfortable navigating the windy Medina streets on foot, I'd recommend getting a guide. But walking from the ferry terminal (with small bags) is about a 20 minute walk uphill. Follow the signs to the Kasbah and the last few streets you can follow via Google well. The entrance looks unassuming and is easy to miss if you're not looking around. It's a great spot to explore the medina from, you're up on the hill with a great view (from the terrace) of the city, the harbor, the lights and sights from above. Absolutely worth the money.

Celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary and this was the perfect location. Stayed on the top and enjoyed the most gorgeous view every morning complete with fresh breakfast. Staff was awesome and even accompanied us to get a suitcase because we bought too much stuff to carry home in the luggage we bought. They simply made us feel like family and I appreciate that more than they will ever know.

From the moment of arrival, just wonderful. We were greeted with a huge smile at the front door and given mint tea to chill with on arrival. Then to take in our surroundings, I spent an hour or more just wandering around the Riad, all 3 floors and rooftop absorbing all the arty and traditional collection throughout the property. Beautiful. You must go to the rooftop to have an amazing view over Tangier. All of the staff couldn’t help you more, a genuine friendly smile every time. Our room was well catered for and clean, comfy beds and those great little touches in the bathroom. Plenty of power points. It was so quiet from everywhere in the Riad. The cats know how to chill and love to lay in your lap if you want or happy to leave you alone, Moroccans love and really look after cats. It rained one night so we fortunately had dinner in house.wow..the best meal experience we had (with a bottle of red wine) we had in Morocco along with a meal at the Moroccan Club 2 minutes walk away also with wine/beer and cocktails. The riad only accepts local cash but easy to get at ATMs nearby in the Main Street of the Medina. And while your in the Medina, look for the marketplace (lots of small shops) as lots of Moroccan goodies shopping to be done. I couldn’t help myself, but look closely at the quality and price as it varies from shop to shop. We got a petit taxi from the railway station at got dropped off at the Moroccan Club, from there a very short walk (2 mins) to Dar Sultan Riad. We asked the taxi driver to pick us up a couple of days later as we had the first plane out to Spain, and yes he was there as requested at 5.30am. The driver took us on a tour of the city as the roads were then very quiet on our way to the airport, what a bonus. Agree on the price when you book ahead. I highly recommend this riad the best riad we stayed at in Morocco, we stayed in about 7 of them.

This lovely little pearl at the very top of the Kasbah or Medina was a truly lovely experience. Thanks very much to the young women who served breakfast and helped us in all possible ways. They really knew what service was about despite the limited english and our lack of french. The colours, interiors, decorations was so lovely. We went into several other similar hotels around the Kasbah, but they were decorated in brownish and dark colours that did not make it feel so inviting and cozy as Dar Sultan. Everyone mention the breakfast- that was a chapter of its own during the stay. Probably one of the nicest breakfast moments we have had during our travels. The wifi is extremely slow and not usable for much, which is a bit odd taken into consideration the European target group. Watch out if you have problems walking in steep stairs or have cat allergies!! And don't expect the staff to speak English. Do you speak french ? I am coming back despite the fact that I don't know any french/arabic!

What a lovely find! We wanted quirky and individual and that’s what we got. Spotlessly clean and all individually styled with traditional Moroccan furnishings. Not much room each side of the bed but that’s normal in a riad so nothing to complain about but just be aware of. Lots of steps inside but again that is the norm for this style of hotel. Breakfast was traditional Moroccan and absolutely delicious. We walked up from the ferry port through the medina but should have taken the easy route around the city walls or a taxi but where is the fun in that? If you want tradition and style at an affordable price then this is perfect.
