Convenient and a good price. Relatively close to the morning markets. For the price you get a full room, very clean showers and bathrooms, and a good amount of space. Note that the walls are quite thin so you can hear other people pretty easily.

Super clean and cozy place. They were great but Expedia wasn’t with this one. I thought I was getting single Japanese style room with share bathroom. I arrived and found out I’m in mix dormitory. Picture shows you single room and information was single room with share bathroom until I arrived there. I don’t think junk it had anything to do with the place. They were all great. Guest House Ouka is amazing!! The rooms and common area are very comfortable. The staff is so friendly and accomodating. They have tons of food and entertainment recommendations on the walls so I didn't have any worries about how to spend my time in Takayama. Lastly, they had unlimited free tea in the kitchen.

Excellent reception service, kept our luggage safe with them when we arrived early and room was not ready and also on the way out kept our luggage till time for our trains. Very clean and comfortable rooms and bathrooms. Just 10 minutes walk from Station.

Convenient, clean, spacious

Great place to stay in Takayama. It is around 15 minutes’ walk from most points of interest: Takayama Station, the Miyagawa Morning Market, and the shopping street. (There were other hotels closer to the station, but 15 min walk is fine for me.) There’s a 7-eleven 2 minutes away. The staff are friendly and helpful. The lounge and kitchen/dining space on the main floor is spacious and was usually empty when I was there. I booked a single room and it was really spacious too. There were lots of power outlets in the room which was really nice. FYI, the pillow is pretty flat (common in Japan?) but I’m sure you could request another pillow. The rooms, bathrooms, shower rooms, and shared areas were clean. Maybe it was just my schedule, but there was no wait for the shower. I’d definitely consider staying here again if I was in Takayama.

A gem in Takayama

Amazing stay in this charming guest house. The owner is very sweet and helpful and has placed a lot of info about the general area as well as around the region in the common spaces. The place was spotless and the rooms were of ample size and nicely decorated. There's a 7 Eleven just across the street and it is walking distance to the Old town. Definitely recommended for a stay in Takayama!

Superb Apartment..

Good: When we arrived at the Guest House Ouka in Takayama we were disappointed to hear that the family room we booked had a shared bathroom with 5 other rooms. After a few minutes discussion we managed to upgrade to a larger room with 4 single beds, TV and cooking facilities and a huge PRIVATE bathroom and toilet – result!. The location of the property is about a 10 minute walk from the train and bus terminals and there is also a large supermarket within 10 minutes walk as well. Bad: Cant find any fault at all with the upgraded room at all.

takayama experience

such a pleasant stay, exceeds our expectation, staff very accomodating even leave a welcome message, the hostel is very clean and homey and is located within walking distance to the bus center with plenty of restaurants nearby and a convenience store beside it. you should check out this place.

Not bad for a short stay

The location is further from the station, but we have a car so that didn't really concern us as much. Even with the walk, it's only about 10-15 mins to the core of town. We have a private room and it's with the tatami mat. There are good info in the common area on area of interests which is great. The stay is good overall.

Great stay!

Great stay at guesthouse Ouka. Staff at reception was very friendly and helpful. We slept in a room with private bathroom. The room was clean and spacious. The walls are not exactly soundproof. Bathroom was excellent with a good shower. Takayama is small so the guesthouse is within a 10 to 15 minute walking distance of all the major sights.

Nice hostel in Takayama

This hostel is very nice and clean. The staff is very nice and there is a lot of space, including a kitchen and a living room. There, I met very friendly people (Japanese and foreigners), so I had a really nice stay.

Traditional room and nice guest house

This guest house was good. Staying on tatami using futon was also good. The tatami has a strong smell which took a bit of getting used too. The bathroom was very small. To get to the guest house was easy but slightly further away in a local neighbourhood area. It was walkable from the station with light baggage. It was easy to check in and out. A reasonable location but a little too far away from areas of interest.
