Tempus Hotel Taichung

There is an older main wing, and a newer wing across the road. We stayed in the new wing in a large room with two double beds and two bathrooms/showers. The beds were comfortable, clean and attractive. House keeping polite and efficient. Front desk staff helpful and efficient. The included buffet breakfast was a bit lacklustre, but plentiful and filling. The hotel stops the buffet at 10am weekdays. There is an adjacent large gym and swimming pool. Looked in the gym- seemed good, and quite busy. The pool is old-ish and outdoor, but large with plenty of space for loungers & tables. Water a bit cold for kids but ideal for swimming laps. There is a steam room, large jacuzzi (12 people easily) and another pool set up with high pressure jet massagers. My daughter cut her foot on a sharp stone in the pebble-dash pool lining. The lifeguards very quickly got the first aid kit and patched her up very skilfully and gently (thanks lifeguard Tina!). Didn’t try the seafood restaurant in the foyer of new wing, but it has beautiful salt water decorative tanks outside that the kids loved. Good safe bet for a family hotel.

Stayed there for a night as my wife wanna try all the classes in the fitness club next door so we moved from the hotel across the road. Well, everything there is just a bit dated they really need some upgrade. The hotel service was good but similar to other hotel in the city it needs some upgrade desperately. However the room is pretty big and spacious anyway, just hate that I need to walk around the room to switch the light off. Breakfast wasn't that great tho very limited choice

Room appeared clean, shower worked and had hot water, breakfast was good. Fairly good selection of foods, easily enough to make a breakfast even for those who are picky eaters. Not much of a view from my room, but wasn’t horrible either. Nice entry and staff was very courteous.

My first stay in Tempus hotel. It is quite big as it has another building across the road. The hotel looked a little dated but I considered as well maintained. Service level is good as this is normal in Taiwan where the Taiwanese are generally friendly. I got an upgrade to a bigger room. Breakfast spread was decent. The gym is located in the next building beside the hotel. It is a third party gym which the hotel tied down with for their hotel guests to use. There are a few eateries around the hotel. The Taichung HSR Station is about 15mins drive away.

Stayed for an extended business trip in July 2017. The room was spacious, the bathroom even more so. Air con worked extremely well, and that was necessary since the room had a funny smell when my wife and I moved in. With the air con on, the small vanished. Breakfast was OK and had a wide variety. Unfortunately, every day you'll find the same items, so after one week the breakfast got a bit dull.... Service was OK, with people being professional and courteous. Check-in seemed to require a lot of paperwork given that we booked the room in advance and provided the required information upfront. There are a couple of nice restaurants in the area, that require only a short walk. A convenience store is across the road and a small supermarket is located just a block and a half away. The concierge has a local map which makes finding these places much easier. You can also ask them to order a taxi to the HSR station at a fixed rate. Very helpful. The rooftop pool is a highlight. Don't miss it! Swimming there at night is awesome. Just don't forget to bring a cap, otherwise you'll have to pick one from the "loaner bin" like we had to....

well located, ample rooms, amenities suitable and close to everything. 2 Buildings with access to Gym, restaurants, entertainment and business access that caters to the Travelling Business person. A great Value

This is our first stop during our family road trip. The main reason we picked this hotel was because it was advertised in our credit card member booklet. So why I gave this place a 3-star rating? Two main reasons: the lobby and the food. What's wrong with the lobby? The fertilizer smell. I can give it a more vivid description but I think you get the point. The flower in the lobby looks great but the smell totally ruined it. How about the food? We had dinner and breakfast buffets. The food was average, that's why I gave it a 3 star. The only highlight of this hotel is the Mandara Life Club. For a fitness class junkie like me, I was excited when I found out that hotel guests get access to the fitness club right behind the hotel (I'm not sure if the club is part of the hotel). Though the yoga class I took in the morning wasn't as good as the ones in Equinox (where I work out), it is still better than nothing.

Tempus is a good hotel, well located for exploring Taichung. Not far from public transport, the hotel facilities are above average for the area. There is some confusion in the reviews of 'tired' versus 'new' and this is because the hotel has two buildings. The main building is very tired. Older lifts, darker rooms and dated furniture. I've stayed in these rooms on several occasions and find them to smell of smoke (even though they're non-smoking). The other building, called Da-Dun, is much more modern. I would recommend this room. Other than that, the breakfast is quite nice and the quality of the staff is excellent. Make sure you visit nearby Jingming 1st street and take a wander up and down the Jingcheng streets.

Stay here every month. Really good range of restaurants nearby. Rooms are updated and very clean. Ask for fast internet if you're not up to speed and they will provide a VIP modem. Most trips not needed. Shopping nearby. Sogo etc. I like staying here more than Taipei. Restaurants nearby range from traditional Chinese to Thai, Indian and Japanese. Little Japanese near Indian one street away is really good. About 10USD for miso, rice and sashimi bowl with saki if required. Saki is usually required after a hard day. Massage rooms, 2 level gym and great swimming pool attached to hotel. I really look forward to the wind down with laps at days end. Palm trees line the pool and long enough for laps. Gym area change room has the full Chinese style water thing with hot and cold pools and cascading massage water. Weird local and not hotel requirements like wearing a swimming cap and not putting your towel on the floor are not something to be annoyed about. It's just how they do it. Hagen Daaz next to gym at days end to put the fat back on you took off in the pool and gym.

I read several reviews before coming here and I honestly don't know what they were talking about. This place does not seem "tired". I've stayed in top hotels around the world, this one is right up there, maybe the lobby is not as grand and fancy as some really high end places but honestly who needs an over the top fancy lobby? This is my first time to Taichung so I'm not really sure if this is a great location, but with the bus line out front on one of the major arterials in the city, it should be easy to get most places. (Some friends helped us with the bus)Obviously taxis are plentiful. One of the reviewers said there were no English speakers. My experience was the opposite. Staff had remarkably great English. There may have been one time where we had to speak to someone else because of a language barrier. Staff is incredibly friendly. Our reservation had free breakfast and it was really good, with a large selection of Asian and western foods. The gym is in the building next door, which is a little weird but no big deal. Use the 3rd floor of the gym, there is better equipment there. There is also an outdoor pool which I never used, it may cost extra?? Rooms are spacious, as are the bathrooms. The bed is a little firm for my liking but not bad. Big TV, and free water in the room. No complaints!
