Holiday Inn Express Taichung Park

Location somewhat strange as its inside a shopping mall. However its very much the same as all other Holiday Inn Express in Asia. Clean, efficient and functional, but the breakfast leaves a lot to be desired. What passes for yoghurt was the same as a slushy from 7/11. Some nice restaurants nearby and several local style eating paces.

Stayed here two nights while in Taichung. The staff are quite helpful and when I was there they were having a free happy hour Wednesday which I was invited to. The rooms are large, clean and on par with others HI Express. Its not luxury but certainly very comfortable The desk staff were quite helpful in finding the locations of the factories for me as they were -- shall we say out of the way. The breakfast was really so so. But lots of restaurants around as well as Family Mart and 7 11 within 2 minutes

Typical HI Express, but the location is great with a park, restaurants, and an outlet mall within walking distance. It's also quiet at night. Small lobby, and there are no suites (so no upgrade). The room is clean but on the smaller size. Breakfast is decent (better than most HIE in the U.S.) and complimentary for the hotel guests. The front desk staff are very friendly, which always makes a positive start.

We choose this Holiday Inn Express based on location (close to the train station and 1/4 block to the Sun Moon Lake bus). They took good care of us. We arrived a day early on our way to Sun Moon Lake and they were kind enough to store a couple of bags for a day. We walked the 1/4 block to the Nantou Bus Company and caught the bus. When we returned the next day the bus dropped us off across the street and our hotel was right there. Check-in was smooth and, like other reviewers, we were presented with one can of soda as a gift. We just laughed and accepted it. The room was great - large and clean and had everything we needed including a great view. Speaking of "views", other reviewers have commented on the shower so I won't. The food in the hotel was good. Breakfast is served buffet style and offers mostly Chinese options, but some Western. We enjoyed it. We did eat dinner in the hotel one night and they have a buffet for $269 NT per person that did the job for us nicely. There was always a taxi just outside the door but we mostly used the bus system which works well. The rate was a little higher than other hotels on our Taiwan trip, but we felt good about it and would gladly stay here again.

While I was searching for the accommodation in Taichung, I aimed to find a hotel which could offer complimentary wheelchair for guest's use outside of the hotel as my mom has reduced mobility. The hotel replied very quickly with a positive response. Given its good location and very reasonable room rate, I booked two nights here. We took a taxi from the airport which cost NT$800 but for the return trip, we took the Route 302 airport bus. If you exit the airport terminal and turn left following the sign, there was an air-conditioned waiting room for all the airport buses. Route no. 302 cost only NT$58 per person and it took around 70 minutes. The best thing was that the bus terminus of this 302 was just half a street away from hotel. Once you get off the bus at Taichung Central Park, follow the direction of the traffic and you can see a flyover. Walk straight and cross under the bridge and you can see the hotel building. Checked-in was very smooth and as a IHG member, I was given a can of soft drink. When I asked wasn't it for 'each guest'? They offered my mom another can as a gesture for first time guest. We also got our complimentary wheelchair immediately. Room was standard size, very clean and with comfortable beds. There was no hotel menu in the drawer. WiFi was generally ok despite moments of sudden disconnection at night. There were 2 complimentary bottles of water for each day. Besides local channels, TV had other foreign channels like CNN, AXN, NHK World, Russia Today, US News, TVBS, Discovery Channel, National Geographic, Star World, HBO & Hollywood Movies. There were also 3 complimentary computers for guests' use in the lobby. There were a couple of areas which caused inconvenience: as the bathroom was using opague glass, it would be inconvenient if you stay with friend instead of couple or family. Also if we need to keep the lights on at night for the bathroom, it would be rather bright for the guest sleeping right next to the bed. Another thing which didn't make sense was that the switch of the table lamp was linked with the main light of the room. This meant I could not work late without having the whole room brightly lit. Hotel restaurant wasn't opened all day and at off meal times, only the congee shop on 2/F was opened. Breakfast was ok with congee and several kinds of condiments. There were also boiled eggs, a couple of hot dishes, toast and tiny croissants. There was a couple of fresh fruits like water melon. However, juices were not good. The outlet within the hotel building was a waste of time. Usual discount was just around 30% and some offered 'up to 50% if you buy 2 items'. As for the special sale section on 6/F mostly for sports items, sport shoes were really outdated and some even had different sizes for a pair of sport shoes. Night market was just a slow 15 minutes walk from the hotel. However, if guests are keen to go shopping etc., a stay nearer to Top City might be more convenient as it was 25 minutes away by taxi. Overall, it was still a pleasant and good value stay.

Stayed here for a short business trip. This is the budget version of a holiday inn (which is already at low end of IHG group) but luckily it's asia and not the US so the quality (or lack thereof) is acceptable Front desk service is typical taiwanese friendliness, but alas despite being a Spire Ambassador, i didn't get an upgrade . I did however get some free snacks in the room. And a can of coke The lift is a furnace with no ac Room is basic and has some "express" drawbacks like thin towels and toilet paper. Some "express" perks include a soap dispenser instead of bar soaps. The shower stall is large/long though and there's no bathtub which is ok since i'm not a fan. Room has a nice view of the park below Mysterious chinese restaurant on the 2nd floor but the lift doesn't go to 2nd floor Didn't have time to try the gym Breakfast spread looks like a high school cafeteria, but still better than american standard

My room was big spacious and full of light. Room Cleaning was awesome. Breakfast is good. Nearest park is nice place to take a brisk walk Hotel is just beside the bus stand so good option for going out different place.

Overall I was very pleased with my stay at this hotel. The location was good for my business visits and not too far from the High Speed rail link to get too and from the airport in Taipei. Great little park next to the hotel which was perfect for my morning run. Room was nice, clean and what you would expect from a Holiday Inn Express. Breakfast was a little tight on space some morning and the choice was OK and I easily found enough to eat. In an evening the old night market is within easy walking distance which is a nice place to visit and experience and you are also not far taxi wise to go downtown to restaurants and bars. Overall very pleased.

Business type hotel with standard, help-self service. Shopping, dieting in the building the hotel located and not far away the first Taichung high school night market and Chung-yo department store. Also, Taichung park is a good place to visit just besides the hotel.

Everything about my stay last month at this property was terrific. The hotel is located in a terrific spot. It's a 5 minute walk from the Taichung Rail/Bus Station, not to be confused with the Taichung High Speed Rail Station, overlooking Taichung Park. When my husband and I checked in, we were greeted by three ladies who exuded warmth and hospitality. They were supremely helpful in answering our questions about public transport and buses. They also were quick to acknowledge top tier IHG status. We were offered a lovely welcome beverage. They also mentioned a welcome amenity had been prepared in the room. I don't think I've ever had that type of service or acknowledgment of status at a Holiday Inn level hotel. It was a pleasant surprise. The room itself was very modern, clean, and spacious. One thing to note, the shower is enclosed by opaque glass and can be seen in the room. It was fine for us, as we were a couple traveling. If you plan on sharing a room with someone you're not as comfortable with, keep that in mind. The breakfast buffet spread also blew the spread at all other HI Exp. in the US out of the water. There was a great mix of Taiwanese/Eastern options with congee, etc as well as western options. The fantastic service continued at check out. We were looking to get to the Taichung High Speed Rail Station which was a 20 minute ride outside the city proper. Originally, our plan was to take a taxi, but at check in, we were told us there was a bus leaving a block away from the hotel that would go directly to the train station. Upon checking out, one of the ladies working at the front desk walked us to the bus stop and made sure we got on the correct one. For the price we paid, this hotel hit the marks of a five star hotel in terms of service. I've stayed at luxury hotels who didn't make half the attempt the staff at this Holiday Inn Express did. I'll happily come back and stay at this property in the future.
