ABOUT THE COTTAGE
This slice of heaven on the shores of Lake Champlain sits on the calm waters of Maquam Bay. This cozy cottage provides everything you need to enjoy a lake front retreat in Vermont. Enjoy the sunsets sitting at the campfire and relax on the Adirondack chairs overlooking the Bay. The large, fenced in yard provides plenty of space for relaxation or play (and is great for kids or dogs). The .44 acres is very private with mature trees and bushes lining the property. Watch the sunset over the water with the Adirondack mountains as the backdrop. The ramp provides easy access to the water – step into the shallow waters and cool off. Wildlife is abundant with eagles, herons, egrets, ducks, osprey and more.
Spend the summer, winter, fall or spring on the shores of this Lake Champlain get-away. The cottage itself sleeps six people in two bedrooms (a king bed in the master bedroom and twin bunks in the guest bedroom) plus a sleeper sofa in the living area.
This spot has it all! A front porch, back deck and a patio along the edge of the water all provide great spaces to relax and enjoy the peace of the lake. There is also a wood burning fire pit (wood is provided).
Recently renovated with new bamboo flooring, the open living, dining and kitchen area is where you'll spend most of your time when you are not outdoors. Comfortable, cozy furnishings in the living area, a dining table that seats six people and a well-equipped kitchen are all provided to make you feel at home. A gas grill is available for use as well. There is also a full bathroom in the cottage.
An added bonus is the private ramp for easy access to the lake for your kayak or paddle board.
A tandem kayak is included along with a mix of life jackets. We also have several lawn games ready to play. Should you need to move indoors, the cottage comes with games, books and puzzles to enjoy. There are also 2 TV's (one in the living room and one in the master bedroom). High speed wifi internet service is included. Washer/dryer also available.
Bring Fido! Pets are welcome (up to 2 pets upon approval & pet fee applies).
Note: The yard is fenced in with a boundary fence. While it keeps our dog on the property, a determined or small dog can escape. If your dog is prone to running, it might be better to plan additional restraints while on property. In any case, we don't recommend leaving your dog unattended.
ABOUT THE AREA
There is so much to see and do in the area! Our cottage is on the Lake Champlain Bikeway and near the Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail. Within biking or driving distance you'll be able to enjoy shopping at antique stores, apple picking in local orchards, visits to wineries and nature preserves all along the Champlain Islands. Enjoy local coffee houses and restaurants and of course don't forget the leaf tours in the autumn!
If you decide to venture out from the peace and privacy of the cottage why not check out some of these local activities and attractions:
* Beaches: o Swanton Beach (.5 miles) o Cohen Park (3.7 miles) o Alburgh Dunes State Park (19.7 miles) * Hog Island Market (9 miles): Stop by this quaint local market to pick up some fishing equipment, bait, fishing license, ice, beer, wine, and groceries * Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center (7.7 miles): Wildlife refugee offering hiking trails, boating, and robust visitor center. * Campbell's Bay Campground (8 mi): Pontoon, boat, or canoe rentals * St. Alban's Bay Marina (8.9 miles) * West Swanton Orchard (7 mi): A great stop for apples, soft ice cream and souvenirs. * Green Mountain Stables (9 mi): Summer camps, private horseback lessons, birthday parties * Champlain Country Club (6.8 miles)

Perfect cabin on the lake. Beautiful views. The house had everything we needed for a wonderful vacation. The town of Swanton was lovely with a wonderful restaurant, yummy bakery and access to the rail trails. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

The cleaner was still there when we arrived. He was dripping with sweat, explaining how he didn't have his helper and didn't finish the laundry (the bathroom rugs were in the washer and he did not wash the bunk bed sheets). We told him we would finish up and sent him on his way.In fairness to him, it was over 90 and there is no air conditioner, but the interaction with him and the general dinginess of the place prompted us to spend the first couple hours of our vacation recleaning the whole house, including the food crumbs under the kitchen table and the hair in the bathtub drain. The blanket provided for the dog was not clean so we threw it in the washer. Though the information packet indicated that laundry detergent would be provided, there was none, which made us wonder what the cleaner used to do the laundry, prompting us to go to the store to get detergent and spend our time rewashing sheets and towels. That was day 1 of our vacation!.The yard is treacherous. If you don’t twist your ankle on the walkway from the driveway to the front door, there are deep, ankle-crushing holes in the backyard. The front windows do not open and the screen on the front storm door is torn out so no chance of a cross breeze. We had an issue with the CO2 detector and contacted Valerie who responded saying "I don't manage the property itself, just the bookings, for the property owner", so nobody manages the property, and it shows.Place was not worth what we paid. Owner should be ashamed.

Most disappointing experience. First vacation in 8 years, gift for my birthday. And we were met with up bed wasn’t washed. You could see the wrinkles where two people had laid. Stains, hair and dirt in bed. So gross. Decided to spend night on sleeper couch which left us sore, wasn’t comfortable at all. Shortly after midnight the dogs started to get bothered by something, scratch and biting in the air. My husband went to kitchen to find it infested with flying ants, all over. On our stuff, on ourselves and the dogs. So since we couldn’t sleep anyways we decided to pack our stuff and leave at 3:30 in the morning.

No Cooling and dirty
I want to say that the place physically matched the description and the backyard and lake view are stunning. That being said, there was no cooling in the home and so the temp outside was equivalent to inside. Also, while it said there were linens provided the master bed did not have linens and when I talked to the property manager after what was a long day little could be done to fix the issue. On top of that, the blankets on the bunk beds were covered in dog hair as was most of the house. The fridge and freezer would not stay cold unless cranked up to the highest setting. It was very clear that spot cleaning was done and not much else. There were so many bugs in the home that my kids could not sleep in the room with the bunks. Under the shower mat was filthy… All of this caused me to pack up my family and leave for another establishment as the dirt and bugs in the home and lack of transparency about the lack of cooling on a 90degree day was enough… I have pictures of the bugs on the kids beds and filth all over the home… When I tried to discuss the cooling with the propert manager she blew it off saying cooling wasn’t common in VT. Interesting how I saw plenty of window units. Even if there was cooling, the dirt was bugs was too much for me. We literally only stayed one night.

Exactly What We Needed - Relaxing Vacation on the Lake!
Wonderful week at this cute cottage on the lake. The views are absolutely wonderful and we enjoyed mornings outside with coffee listening to the waves and evenings with a fire watching the sunset. Quiet location, close to town (Swanson is small with nothing to do), great close supermarket. Close to the Champlain Islands (North and South Hero for bike rides, winery, boating) and St.Albans (charming town with shops and dining). Burlington is a little farther but didn’t stop us from the 45 min drive. Kids enjoyed staying in the bunk house!
The house could use a more thorough clean and some minor attention to detail (broken outdoor hose, lighting, dog poop in yard, some more door mats by doors for wet feet) but overall a lovely stay!!

Maquam Shore Stay
It was an extremely hot and humid week. Property does not have air conditioning which made it unbearable at times. Property lists a gas firepit but did not have one. One neighbor not a fan of dogs even though the property allows them. Property provides amazing sunsets.

Great lake stay!
The cottage is very clean, with lovely amenities such as a kayak and lovely fenced yard! Well set up kitchen and a plus having a washer and dryer. I recommend water shoes as the first few feet into the water are rocky and there are sharp shells. Also, note there is no air conditioner, but multiple ceiling fans keep it cool. Beautiful sunsets!

Laid back vacation
The property is beautiful! The location and peacefulness were just what I was looking for! I loved that it was pet friendly…my dog loved the fenced in yard! We did see many of the local attractions and traveled to Burlington…all very beautiful! The house was equipped great for the nights we stayed in to cook dinner. The bunk house was a pleasant surprise as i didn’t remember seeing it in the original vrbo listing! My only critique of the home is that it does need some sort if AC…the weather was very hot and humid and it was very hard to find relief, especially at night, even with the windows open. Perhaps some sort of standing AC unit would probably cool the entire place. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Wonderful property
I thoroughly enjoyed my extended stay at Maquam cottage! The property was as described; both the yard and the interior were larger than I expected. The kitchen was well-appointed, the furniture comfortable for woman and beast. My dog adored the yard and made friends with the neighbors, and my friend and I were both able to work remotely from the cabin during our stay. I sincerely hope to return next year!

Beautiful spot & house
This is a small, tidy home right on the Bay. Bedrooms are a good size for a vacation home & the bunk house is perfect for a bit of privacy! Tastefully decorated with comfortable furniture & spaces. Loved having necessities covered to reduce what you need to bring. Communication with the VRBO agent was continuous so it added peace of mind. Neighbors were quiet & friendly. It was perfect for a home base to explore the area. If we're ever in that neck of the woods again, we'd stay there in a minute!
