Sur Plaza Hotel3.0 out of 5.0

First of all, it has to be said that coming here after some of the 4-5 star hotels in Muscat is always going to be an anticlimax and as other reviewers say, it may still be the best in Sur. It is however pretty basic. The rooms are quite small and dark (very small windows) and overlook the dual carriageway so quite loud. The mattress is very hard (but comfortable) and there is only one small pillow per person. Bathroom is clean but again fairly basic. Staff are all quite rude although this may be a language/cultural thing. Unlike previous reviews, we felt the pool was large enough. It is also quite deep so a bit cooler than others. There is a large sunny terrace but the loungers can be moved over to the far corner where there is shade so no problem. As reported in previous reviews, the bar is closed. Apparently you can get a beer in the ("open all day") restaurant from 6 pm onwards. Breakfast buffet was very limited, with basic cheap food and quite disappointing. They also don't seem to realise that unlike locals, tourists don't eat everything with their hands but the waiter will begrudgingly get a knife and spoon from the kitchen if you ask. If you look behind one of the service desks, you can also get a paper napkin. Most people only probably come to see the turtles (45 mins drive) and there may be nothing better, but wouldn't recommend it.
Sur is not a big city so there is limited choice when it comes to luxury hotels.. Sur Plaza is probably the best option but services/rooms/amenities are ok without being outstanding.. One night is more than enough
Std rooms adequate but small. Hotel interior clean and set around central courtyard -attractive! Restaurant buffet adequate but limited choice - similarly breakfast relative to other hotels we stayed at. Overall OK for one or two nights.
The staff are helpful and professional. Nice rooms and clean. Nearby for some shops. Buffet have a lot of options to choose from. Guest mostly like the Sur plaza hotel to stay if they are in Sur for trip.
I stayed 1 night I visited Wadi Bani Khalid and stopped at this hotel I didn't like: The first room given smelled stale, I informed the reception quickly I get a new room. The walls of the pool need cleaning I liked Welcome drink & cold towel Good quality of matress. The waitress at the breakfast available, helping & smiling. A buffet full of variety, even better than a 4 star hotel, with a cook preparing omelettes and waffles.
Not much to see but it's comfortable and near the tourist spots. The staff at the reception and restaurant were courteous. They welcomed us with a cold, damp face towel and delicious mango juice. We had the breakfast buffet and the food is nice. The lobby has a good ambiance and interior.
I stayed here for 3 days and was in Oman for business. I traveled with a local colleague, so getting by around was not a problem. The hotel itself is quite "luxurious" if you compare it with the surrounding buildings. Check in and check out was alright. The staff was helpful. I did not remember having breakfast in the hotel, maybe I did not opt for the breakfast option; I had them outside of the hotel as there were some nearby local shop that sells food (if you can tolerate arab food; which for me is nice).
The Sur Plaza Hotel is situated in a quiet suburb of the fishermen's town of Sur. My wife and I stayed here in March 2017 for one night as part of a Cox and Kings tour of Oman. The hotel has a very impressive ceiling in the foyer! The bedroom had two single beds, air-conditioning, phone, spare pillows, free bottles of water, flat screen TV (excellent reception on the BBC24 and CNN channels), free safe, a large hanging cupboard (but only 4 hangers!), a fridge (with nothing in it!), and coffee and tea making facilities. The bathroom had a bath with an excellent shower over it, hair dryer, shaver point and a big basin (however, the overflow was not connected so we had a minor flood!). There was free WiFi for two tablets/phones only, but the reception was good in the room. We had no complaints about the dining facilities and food, and the choice for breakfast was more than enough. There was an outdoor pool and gym facilities. We enjoyed the hotel and all it had to offer.
This Hotel is basic. The rooms are dated. The bathrooms are tired. However the plus part is that the food is very good. We had evening dinner and breakfast buffet and both were wonderful. What really spoiled it fir me was the rude behavior of the front desk staff wishing wanted to charge me for a cup of cappuccino during breakfast (as extra) and when I stared the waitress never told me it's not part of the buffet... there was a big fuss created and they wanted their manager Approval to revers something that was for 1.8 Riyals ... the minimum amount was not my issue but my point was that I should have been informed at the time. Left a really bad tastes
nice place to stay with family. cooperative and efficient front desk staff. good food and nice swimming pool. pleasant interior of hotel makes it more blissful stay. many places to visit in sur like turtle beach...fort....museum and excursion in near by villages.
