Things went wrong that were outwith the hotels control. The staff went above and beyond to make up for the issue. We had a lovely stay as a result and would heartily recommend the Portpatrick hotel to others. Fantastic hospitality.

Room very basic, needed refreshed decor wise. Small doible. We did not park our car in hotel car park whuch we did not agree wit charge of £6.50 . This seemingly was applied to stop non residents of hotel using the car park for leaving car and doing the Southern upland walk which starts outside the hotel. Strongky disagree with charges for residents of hotel. Would put us off re booking unless revoked. All staff pleasant and did not eat in hotel.

Room needed tlc. Bathroom light was iffy ~ seemed to have a loose connection. Stayed last year at this time but things have disimprived since. Food selection at both dinner and breakfast was less. No marmalade in the traditional hame of marmalade if we believe Mr Keiller. Staff were very pleasant and courteous. Lovely building and location

The hotel has an air of faded glory about it, but to be fair, I was there in the shoulder season during a big storm, so perhaps I didn't see it at its best. I was especially hoping to take advantage of the big veranda, but with 75 mph winds, that was not an option! The high ceilings do kind of beg for more people so it doesn't feel rather tomb-like... The somewhat dated room was fine, but I was disappointed that the window didn't open at all because it was a little warm for my comfort. Even with fewer guests, they expect dinner to be reserved, and while I just had a very good soup, others seemed to enjoy their somewhat expensive main dishes and desserts. The breakfast was very average full-English fare. The location on the hill is not what I'd call "walkable", but in exchange you do get great views. Most of the staff was quite nice, with the exception of a somewhat grumpy bartender.
