Eco Haute was amazing! My husband and I were looking for an unplugged trip with a spectacular view and this did not disappoint. We loved waking up early to the waves, sipping coffee on the back porch and lounging in the sun. The house itself has everything you need (just bring some food) and being up on the cliff means you get a great breeze anytime day or night. The house is very secluded and remote - Elena offered to arrange a meet & greet to lead us to the house - I highly recommend unless you are familiar with the East End. Also, definitely plan to get there during day light hours, the roads are no joke especially at night! For the adventurous at heart looking for a truly one of a kind experience, this is your place! At the end of a trip I always find myself ready to head home but my husband and I both felt truly sad to leave this little slice of paradise. We were planning our return trip before we even left. Thank you for an unforgettable stay.

Perfect location to celebrate our 20th!

If you are looking for a place that is truly off the beaten path, Eco Haute is it! We were first drawn to the location while we were looking for a remote house to unplug from our 3 teenagers and basically life in general. The pictures were amazing, but as these things usually are, the real thing was even better than expected. There are NO neighbors and as best I could tell, the closest house was a half mile or so away. The drive time to Cruz Bay (about 40 minutes) is an easy trade off for what Eco Haute provides in isolation and beauty. The views to the east up the Drake Channel provide 200 degree plus open water views of Tortola, Norman island, Peter Island, and Virgin Gorda in the distance. We started our 8 day visit on a night where we were welcomed by a rising Full over Virgin Gorda that lit up the channel like it was the middle of the day. The drive from East End road for the last 5-8 minutes of the drive is part of the adventure. The first time is eye nopening, but its really no more intimidating than any other road on the island. Easily done with our rented jeep and each turn provided amazing views. Hansen and Haulover are about 10 minutes from the villa. We did a balance of eat-in and eat-out and found the kitchen was perfect for two to be creative. We picked up most of our food at Calabash Market in Coral Bay or Starfish Market if we were near Cruz Bay earlier in the day. A lot here, but we truly loved the location and just returned home to a 24 degree morning :-)

End of the road

St. John’s is a very laid-back quiet island but if Cruz Bay and all the North Shore beaches are just a little too loud and crowded this house will be perfect for you. Be ready to drive a little bit to get anywhere and watch out for the goats and donkeys. This house is the perfect set up for two. You are literally the last house on St. John staring straight at the British Virgin Islands. One suggestion would be not to watch scary movies at night. You are definitely alone down a long dark very mountainous road.

Bliss

We had a wonderful time at Eco Haute. The wrap-around deck with what seemed like an "infinity edge" view to the ocean was magical. While we enjoyed snorkeling and kayaking most days, we also spent several days not leaving the cottage...Eco Haute became the main draw for us to be at St. John. As other reviewers remarked, the drive up to Eco Haute, particularly the last 5 minutes, was a "heart stopper" at times; I would suggest no "drinking and driving" or driving at night in the dark. We were happy to stay at the cottage, so this did not interfere with our fabulous vacation at Eco Haute. Truly a 5-star experience!

12th time on the island and loved this Villa

Property was spectacular and remote. We had a blast driving to and fro and seeing such wonderful views. You can spend all day on the deck just watching the sails and boats and ships go by your front porch. Bring some warm wear to be out on deck at night!

East End Saint John Gem

This property far exceeded our expectations for a quiet, Christmas vacation. Communication with owner, Karye, was exceptional. Kelly (property manager) was very easy to communicate with. She met us in Coral Bay and we followed her out to the property, where she did a thorough walk-through. The property was clean, comfortable furnishings, updated kitchen. It has a simple layout with a bonus yoga room that we used to store our bags in. The porch is amazing with unobstructed views of BVI. Have your morning coffee watching the sunrise over BVI and the sailboats. No need for the AC as the breeze is very strong. We hiked down to the beach below a few times, which requires sturdy shoes. Walked along the hilly, desolate roads to get into the property. You'll need a vehicle with good tires to wind your way out to the property. Went to the east end beaches, Haulover, Hansen, Brown Bay (requires a hike with sturdy shoes). Loved Saltwell Beach too. We are frequent visitors to Saint John and decided to split this trip up. We stayed in Cruz Bay to enjoy being close to ferry, north end beaches/hikes, walk to restaurants/shopping. Then move out to the countryside for some quiet and evenings at the house. Thank you Karye and Bob for building this amazing property for others to enjoy.

Wonderful home, wonderful stay!

My husband and I rented this house for 7 nights for our honeymoon and we have zero regrets! This home is modern, clean, private and enjoyable to stay in. The deck and views are extraordinary. Management was easy to contact and very helpful and being greeted upon arrival was a nice perk. Just one thing to note for future renters: the pathway to the beach below was very steep and very overgrown and requires a sure foot. so if you venture down there, proceed with caution! I would absolutely recommend this rental and I would love to return one day as an anniversary trip!

Natural beauty & total privacy

We just stayed at the Eco Haute for a week for our 20th anniversary, and it was exactly what we were looking for when we booked. You will share the surroundings with goats and donkeys and hermit crabs and pelicans, but no other people. It's a short drive to Coral Bay for provisions, and to a multitude of beautiful bays for snorkeling, which we had a blast doing. Can't recommend the place enough.

Best F**ing Vacation Ever!

The photos are accurate, but to understand you really have to go experience Eco Haute. What makes this home unique is total privacy and immersion in St. John's natural surroundings while being spoiled with first class attention to comfort and amenities. Kelly did an outstanding job supporting us during our stay, including guiding us in on the first day. A little heart pounding the first time, but the roads are well maintained and we only needed to share the lane with adorable Billy goat families. We will remember this trip to St. John with joy, peace and thankfulness.

The perfect honeymoon

We finally made it to this extraordinary house for our honeymoon (after 3 COVID-related postponements that the owners were extremely accommodating about) and had the most wonderful 9 days. The house is even better than it appears -- stunningly laid out and built (to the point where we are inspired about taking some of the ideas and incorporating them in the next house we would like to build for ourselves). Everything you need is there, including the wonderful greeter (Kelly) who met us in Coral Bay to take us to the house and show us around, give us advice, etc. There were quite a few days when, despite all the beauty around the island, we just stayed at the house, spent time on the deck, grilled seafood, watched boats go by and just got away from everything. The house has everything you need -- a stocked pantry with spices and liquor of all kinds that I assume each visitor replenishes as we use it. Wild goats greet you in the morning, and a constant breeze keeps the outdoors (and indoors) pleasant (and bug free!) The pool is delightful, and the drive out from Coral Bay is stunning each time. (We simply did not mind being 20 minutes away from everything -- the views along the way are so stunning.) Our trip was at the onset of hurricane season -- so we had two tropical storms come by south of us, but that did not detract from our enjoyment of the house and the part of the deck that is relatively sheltered. For a couple that just wants to get away from it all, I don't think one can do any better!

Paradise at the end of Paradise

Eco Haute is one of the most amazing places we have ever stayed. The adventurous drive is certainly part of the allure! the serenity, beauty and privacy provided is worth the drive. The views of the BVIs and the ships passing by are remarkable and part of the charm. We loved the sound of the sea and feel of the trade winds all day (& night)! You have created an extremely comfortable home away from home with every amenity we could want. It was so cool being off the grid yet feeling like we were in a 5 star suite. Definitely buy your food and other necessities in town before heading out and a jeep is a must! Eco Haute was the icing on the cake for my husband's 70th birthday celebration. After spending a week at another villa with our children and grandchildren, we really appreciated Eco Haute and its peaceful environment. Thank you! P.S. Kelly was a great help getting us out here.

Unbelievable!

I have stayed at VRBO’.s for years, but nothing compares to this! We were looking for a few days a peace and quiet, and got so much more than we expected. The house is on the far East side of St John and has some of the most beautiful views on the island.. The power is in the simplicity. Everything has a purpose. From the kitchen to the bathroom there wasn’t a single thing that was missing. We each came with one bag and had nothing we needed. If you are a couple looking for peace and solitude…/this is the place. It will not disappoint. We look forward to returning next year.

Bob and Karye, and Kelly were amazing to work with leading up to our vacation as well as during our stay. As for the property, I am not sure that there is a more beautiful spot to stay on St. John. The views were spectacular. The house was immaculately clean and it had every amenity we needed for our stay from beach chairs/cooler to toiletries. The place actually feels bigger in person than what the photos show. The deck is huge! We Would definitely love to stay here again some day.

We both agreed this was one of our best vacations ever!! The house is so nice and the view is incredible!! We never tired of sitting an watching the boats go by in the channel and listening to the water. The hosts were great, and we went out daily for hikes and snorkeling. Highly recommend Busy Bee for charter adventures. It’s a gorgeous 25 min drive back to Coral Bay, so get your groceries on the way in if you’re ready to kick back. We went all over the island and agree that Coral Bay area and the East End have just the laid back vibe and relaxed pace we love! We will definitely be back. The house is incredible well equipped and has everything you need for a great week! Already planning our next trip!

Beautiful Property and Views. Relaxing. Isolated.

Eco Haute is an absolutely beautiful property perched high above the Sir Francis Drake Straights, overlooking Tortola. The house is well equipped with everything you and your significant other would love for a great vacation away from what feels like everything. We absolutely loved the privacy and being alone (except for occasional goat sightings and sounds) and waking up to a glorious sunrise and the sounds of waves. We definitely hope to return. A few considerations: 1. The property is about 20 mins from Coral Bay with a local grocery store and a few restaurants. Plan accordingly. It’s about 30-35 mins from gas and about 45 from Cruz Bay. Most of the north shore beaches are about 35-40 mins away. 2. The house has all the things you need for cooking with more than adequate utensils, pots, pans, etc.. Linens and beach items (towels, chairs, cooler) are also available. The furnishings are also quite comfortable. 3. It can be windy. With the position of the property on the eastern side of the island and being perched high on a cliff, winds can get very high. While we didn’t mind it, it could inhibit outside pool / deck time. 4. The property owners were very response for any issue (which we had few) and questions. They were always so kind and very concerned that we had a great experience. 5. Driving. Drive on the left and the road to the property can be pretty challenging with hairpin turns, switchbacks and narrow lanes. Watch for goats and the occasional donkey. The property owners were great about assisting with guidance to the property as GPS and cell doesn’t work close to the property. I don’t suggest driving at night the first few times to and from the house.
