St. John inn is a quaint aparthotel located in a more rural area. We had a 2 bedroom apartment and it was cozy and clean. The location is a few streets back from the ferry so you can walk up the hill to get there. Not a lot going on in the area the beach is a taxi ride away. We did find a nice burger place right down the street with grilled cheese and fries that was tasty and only 40$ for 4 of us. Free breakfast was wonderful they took great care in it included muffins, bagels, oj,English muffins very yummy. Staff there was exceptional. Scotty the manager was so welcoming and accommodating to no end. I’d have to say that he was the best part of staying there! Small pool was quite nice to cool down in. A lot of cats on the property and a lot of chicken running around the street next door so if you like animals it’s perfect. All and all great place thanks Scotty for your hospitality
The trip was awesome. While the islands were hit Hard by the 2017 hurricanes the people are friendly and helpful and the water was beautiful and warm. High Tides is a great place to eat drink and catch the amazing sunset .
Lovely cozy place , good location, easy going people . Even with beach chairs , coolers and snorkeling things available to take to the beach .. Was perfect for my weekend getaway... will definitely repeat it !!!!
In November 2018 I booked 2 rooms for 2 days for my family. I spoke with the owner and told him we would arrive from St Croix via our boat. The day we were suppose to arrive our boat had mechanical issues about 7 miles out in open water and we were adrift in 6ft swells for over 3 hours. We barely made it back to St Croix later that afternoon. I called the owner around 1pm and let him know we werent going to be able to make it. When I asked him if he would refund our money he said he had to think about it and would get back to me. I talked to him later that day and he said he could only refund it if he was able to book the rooms. I asked if we could even get a credit for the 2nd day and again he said he would let me know later. I have messaged him and called him a few more times with no reply. Very poor business. We were so looking forward to staying here.
I stayed at the SJI for r nights in mid-May. The accommodations were comfortable, and welcomingly cool. Free breakfasts and rum punch social each evening were nice opportunities to share ideas for activities among guests, and to learn a bit about island culture from the Inn Managers. The town itself is quite hilly, so it's a bit of a walk but easily do-able to walk into and home from town. Very reasonable taxies are available to help with shuttle, too. Two markets are close by, and rooms have fridge and microwave, and there's a grill by the pool. Comfortable and accessible, overseen by great stafg
little place good for rest quiet clean nice location very accessible from or to where you are going great customer service nice people nearby restaurants beach ferry facilities lots of taxi nice music
We loved: the friendly staff, the low key ambiance, the cluster of small buildings with connecting decks, breakfast deck with view, the resident cats who came for visits morning and evening, the family of rooster, hens and chicks down the road, the vibrant colors, having other kids around, being a short walk away from the commercial area.
We visited 25th of April and checked in around 20:00 pm. Unfortunately, we had no hot water in the shower and the water pressure was very bad. no one was at the reception through the evening/night after we checked in, and there was no one to talk to. In the morning we told the lady at the reception about the water and she didn't seem to care or wanting to make us feel more welcome or comfortable. She only said "i checked and you have hot water in the sink", unfortunately we cant take a shower in the sink. We were tired and after a very long day and flights and only needed a good shower and sleep. It was disappointing to pay a high price for this kind of service and poor hospitality.
I stayed as a solo traveler in April. The Inn is right around the corner from the dolphin market, making it easy for trips to the store to grab food for lunches. The inn is a 5 minute walk to downtown Cruz bay. There is a small hill to climb to get in and out of town. I didn’t rent a car, but might consider it next time! Everyone who works at the inn is beyond awesome and helpful. I didn’t feel well at the start of my trip and Scotty went to the store to get me some items. I was so thankful for that! I had a couple issues with my room with A/C and my ceiling fan when I arrived, they worked on fixing things right away. I ultimately made the decision to switch rooms (as they had offered), to have better A/C and it was worth it. Both rooms I stayed in were equally nice however. The beds are super comfortable. The rooms are spotless and inviting, decorated in vibrant colors and island images. The inn offers towels, beach chairs, and coolers for your daily use for the beaches, which is super helpful. I loved using the pool and laying in the hammock outside my room listening to the parrots that flew over for a visit! The inn serves a continental breakfast. It consisted of bagels, waffles, apples, muffins, English muffins, juice, coffees, tea and cereal. It was nice also being able to buy bottled water from the office and they had a selection of things you could borrow if needed (sun block, bug spray) My favorite part was being able to visit with the kitties! If you’re not an animal person no worries, the cats are not annoying (they are quite friendly) and can usually be found napping in a corner somewhere. I enjoyed visiting with them, as well as visiting with kid rock the goat (not a permanent resident there, just a visitor!) as well as Steve the baby chick! So much island fun! When I was feeling terrible, it was fun to have a pet goat to play with for the day and help feed. I loved staying here and thought it was a very affordable and safe place. As a solo traveler I am always mindful of safety and the St John Inn met all of my standards. I look forward to returning and renting a car next time! Thank you for the hospitality, conversation and a great stay. I didn’t want to leave! I was thankful for Andrea driving me into town the last day to get the ferry with my luggage!
We planned our first trip to St John for our 35th anniversary and found this hotel on TripAdvisor. After doing quite a bit of research, we booked our stay on SJI and I'm so glad we did. The staff are unbelievablly friendly and it felt like home to us. Andrea, Scotty, Jen, Portia and even Kid Rock welcomed us. They have a nice little breakfast every morning and rum punch for the sunset. We stay in 116 suite with a kitchen that we didn't even use but was nice to have. The bed was comfortable and the AC worked for the most part. The hotel is painted in vibrant colors with lots of plants and flowers around it. Nice short walk from the ferry and town. They also have coolers, towels, snorkeling gear, pool noodles, balls, etc. for water activities We had a nice little note saying Happy Anniversary when we entered the room with fresh flowers. Between this hotel and the Palm Tree Charter trip we took, we couldn't have asked for a better anniversary trip. Can't wait to go back! I don't think we'd stay anywhere else after this experience. THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!
