We stayed at the Vivanta hotel for 7 nights and it was a fabulous experience. Firstly Mr Shankar and his team looked after us extremely well. All staff were extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. The room itself was well designed and had good facilities, very clean and modern with no areas which needed improvement. In addition the staff which attended morning and evening were friendly and excellent at what they do. Some nice touches including the odd towel animal which is lovely to return to. Secondly the restaurants and the food were all first class. We dined in every restaurant within the complex and thoroughly enjoyed everyone. The buffet restaurant provides a good breakfast and evening meal with lots of variety. The Shack is a fantastic fresh fish restaurant which again had excellent food and service. The Chinese restaurant again served fantastic food with the most attentive waiting staff. The best meal was in the Sea View restaurant again with an excellent menu choice, extremely tasty courses and amazing service, a fine dining restaurant which would give any London restaurant a run for its money. In addition the F&B assistant director, Nalin was extremely friendly and considerate. The rest of the hotel is well kept, nicely styled and again demonstrates exceptional customer service and all staff members should be proud of the service they provide. We would 100% return to this hotel should we decide to return to Bentota. Thanks to Mr Shankar and his team for a fantastic holiday.
We stayed here for a fortnight and had a lovely time. The staff and food were excellent, the only blemish on the holiday being the standard of the en-suite: tired and definitely in need of some TLC. Bathroom aside, the room was very good. The main restaurant offers a very good range of food in buffet format, spanning Western, Sri Lankan and Indian options. The ‘fine dining’ options were first class though; the Seaview Restaurant and The Shack (specialising in fresh seafood) all providing fantastic food within the half-Board price cap and, although we always had to reserve a table, there was always space for us. We didn’t try the Chinese restaurant, but heard very good reviews on the quality (and quantity!). The pool is lovely, although a trend has developed whereby early risers are bagging sun beds well ahead of the pool opening - abetted, it has to be said, by some of the staff. We would definitely return though.
I am writing on behalf of my parents. They visited this Taj for their anniversary. And it was an experience they will cherish. So my dad does not like to eat anything that is not North Indian. Chef sukhdev Singh took special care of his requests and curated a menu especially for their special night. Thank you Mr Sukhdev Singh and Taj, for making it special for them.
This hotel is both international and very Sri Lankan in its approach. Staff are uniformly friendly without being obsequious. The breakfast and dinner buffets were the best I encountered in an 18 day trip around the island. The setting is beautiful and it is a pleasure to be able to walk for several kilometers along the (public) beach with very minimal amounts of hassle. If you want a beachside setting to relax at the start or the end of a longer tour then I think that this hotel would be hard to beat.
We stayed in February 2018 and 2017 . Both stays were excellent as regards quality of accommodation , food and amenities . Staff are very friendly and helpful .Large Poolside area with wonderful ocean views .Good access to long beach. Good variety of in house restaurants .
Went with the family for a wedding and stayed there for one night Very good breakfast buffet Didn’t had a chance to go the dinner buffet but my cousin who stayed there for 7days said that was also super Lunch was very good as well Good pool Super restaurants where you can order large variety of food Good place to be Friendly service I had to say welcome drink was horrible way too much sugar in it Cheers
A really comfortable hotel. Excellent food, great customer service and particularly good service from all staff. Nothing was too much trouble and help was always given with a cheery smile. Easy access to a truly beautiful beach. I woukd highly recommend this hotel.
We stayed here for 2 nights, and overall the experience was pretty good. The property is well maintained, but is a bit dated. The washrooms are especially in need of a refurbishment. The main restaurant, The Palms, is very good and the breakfast and dinner buffets there are recommended. The pool offers great views of the ocean. There are a good amount of activities on offer to keep one busy. However, our major issue was with the check-in experience. We had asked for a room with a direct and uninterrupted ocean view, which was confirmed beforehand, however upon check-in we were informed this isn't available and were offered an alternate room instead, which was a mini upgrade but wasn't what we wanted. We were then shown another room which was much worse. Finally, they said we could get the room we wanted but at around 4.30/5pm. This, obviously, isn't something we wanted to wait for considering we had arrived at the property at 2pm, so this whole process was a bit painful, so we took what we could get. Also, because of how crowded the hotel can get, there was a lack of personalized touches. Overall, a good experience, but not one we'd be desperate to come back to.
Hotel is conveniently located, with a range of facilities and very good swimming pool. It is also close to the extensive beach and sea which is warm but can be rough. Rooms are small but have all facilities (tea coffee etc). Bed was reasonably comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food is disappointing, although we had breakfast included in our package the range of food was not as expected, for example fruit range was poor and often ran out of the limited selection available. We sampled evening meals but while of reasonable standard they were expensive and drinks (alcoholic) were ridiculously priced. As a result few people seemed to use the bar. There are a number of restaurants close to the hotel of variable standard, and these were reasonably priced.
We stayed for a week on a half board basis. We chose the hotel for good reviews and were not disappointed. We had a charm sea view room and it was very clean, with a good view of the sea from the room and balcony. Yes, the shower room could be refurbished, but we were happy with the standard of cleanliness and the shower. The hotel pool is one of the best we have found - long enough for a decent swim, but a good depth throughout. There were always plenty of sunbeds, though some people did go out early, but the pool staff were always attentive and on hand to help us find one to suit our need for a bit of shade. We ate in the buffet restaurant for all our meals and were very happy with the standard of food and the choice. Neither of us eats meat and the variety of vegetarian food was excellent every meal. The staff really went out of their way to help us have an enjoyable and relaxing stay. After this experience, we will not bother to travel the extra distance to Thailand for a beach holiday at this time of year and would definitely go back to this hotel if we holidayed in Sri Lanka again.
