Our first visit to Sri Lanka and definitely not our last. The Hotel is very good and the staff incredible nothing is too much trouble for them, waiters and restaurant staff, housekeeping and reception are keen to please and always have a smile for you. Sukhdev Singh who is an Indian Speciality Chef in the restaurant was exceptional and cooked what ever we requested to a very high standard and came to us personally to make sure it was to our taste. As for the history of Sri Lanka and the tours available we chose an incredible group of locals on the beach just down the steps by the Shak restaurant and onto the beach, we dealt with Lala who personally took us on our trips with no pressure and a mindful of knowledge and knowing you are not being ripped off, which to be honest none of us like. We even used him when going out at night to some fish restaurants he even booked for us. We do believe in supporting locals as they are not very well off for money but have a wealth of kindness and not expecting a lot in return. Lala even heard us mention that we like to go on the beach instead of the pool the next day he had two sun beds on the beach for us. We are used to travelling to the Caribbean but Sri Lanka beats it hands down. Thank you for our amazing holiday.
After a 7 hour journey from Nuwara Eliya we arrived at the Taj around 5pm where it was already dark, pouring with rain, thunder and lighting, so appreciated the warm greeting and were taken to our room which had a view of the volley ball court and sea through the trees. We asked for a quite location and were put at the end of the property where it was quiet. The room had been refurbished and had everything you could want and if you required more you only had to ask. Out of the 4 other hotels we stayed at this was the only one where the WiFi worked. Being at the end of Beach Road it is still not far to take a nice walk to the town of Aluthgama or take a tuktuk. The price is still the same if the hotel call it for you and our first driver was a nice lad ‘Ranga’ who we used throughout our holiday who and very good. Train station is also close by to take a train to Colombo or Galle. We loved everything about this hotel but most of all the amazing staff who provided such wonderful attentive service in all areas. Channa Ekanayake Director of food and Beverages and his wonderful staff made our stay so special, always checking that guests were happy and going out of their way to ensure everyone's needs were met. We were so sad to leave especially when the reception staff waved us off.
After a long travel, we were expecting it to be a seamless check-in, as Taj is always known for their hospitality. But what we encountered was humiliating racist experience at the time of check-in when we weren't even offered a napkin or a glass of water/juice and we were made to wait as our confirmation package didn't match. Whereas the table next to ours was looked after so well! Having stayed across other properties and being a well travelled person, this is the worse ever experience!
Had a fabulous 11 night stay in this Hotel. Service was excellent, couldn't really ask for more. Breakfast buffet was one of the largest I've seen and offered an excellent choice of International cuisine. All the staff very friendly. Only fault which was our own, standard rooms not really suitable for 3 adults for a long stay. Room was lovely overlooking the beach area though and had all facilities we needed for our stay. Maybe this was a refurbished room as reading some of the other reviews I couldn't fault it at all.
Had a great 10 night stay here. Staff. Were all friendly and most helpful. The hotel was very clean and our room was really nice. The food was excellent with plenty of choice. All in all I could not fault this hotel and would certainly stay there again.
I have literally just returned from an 11 day break at this hotel on bed and breakfast only. On arrival we were greeted by really friendly staff in a lovely grand air conditioned reception lobby and offered chilled juice and a beautiful flower "necklace". There were 3 of us in our party and the room they offered overlooking the beach was plenty big enough for us. Yes it was a little cramped with the sofa bed out (that was my bed for the stay) but as we weren't intending to stay in the room apart from to sleep it was more than adequate. The bathroom was easily big enough for all our toiletries and was modern and clean. The hotel is beautifully laid out over several floors with the main restaurant and pool area on top. The interior of the hotel has a beautiful cascading tropical plant area which made you feel like you were outside when you walked to and from anything. We ate from a breakfast buffet that offered so much choice we didn't get to sample everything over the 11 days. Note that if you are doing one of the day trips out the hotel will happily supply you with a breakfast box to take with you! I would urge you to sample an evening meal in the main restaurant which again is a buffet and wonderful food. The staff are amazing. They are friendly, welcoming and will do everything they can to assist and accomodate you. I have to mention Sammi our housekeeping chap who was brilliant. We loved our towel animals especially the monkey hanging from the curtain rail. The beach just outside of the grounds was very nice and offers a lovely walk up or down the coast. All in all I can't find any fault with this hotel, its staff nor its food. I would recommend this place to anyone quite happily.
Taj is synonymous with Hospitality…this brand has always strived to make sure their guests go back happiest its what they aim for & I must say it's what they achieve. We were a big group, the whole family, celebrating the 50th wedding anniversary of our parents, of course a special occasion like this had to be brought in only at the TAJ. Its a very beautiful property, right on the beach, a fantastic staycation offer, that just puts the whole stay in place. Staff, is so courteous & friendly, and nothing is too much for them!! the housekeeping staff are like little genies, your room is clean, cool, sorted & waiting for you,by the time your back from breakfast. The meals served are of course the best selection! the breakfast a perfect start to your day…it's the perfect destination on the Emrald Isle…& like I always say, no one can beat TAJ at hospitality. It was so heart warming when the duty managers came to see us off, upon our departure, they truly know how to make the hotel your home away from home…our very special thanx to the team, a special mention to Chef MANOJ, Duty managers DILHANI & Mr. SURANGA, they just made everything possible and perfect, just the way it was supposed to be. Our heartfelt thank you. Today back at work, all I want to do is relive my 3n-4d stay at Taj.
Everything about the hotel was way above excellence. We were a team of 40 to stay in the hotel. The communication with the hotel team regarding the same was really timely and hassle-free. We got amazing rooms and food there. Best part of the hotel was its private beach. Overall, I would rate it 10/10 in everything.
