I chose Tamarind Hill because it reminded me of a slower and gentler space in time and it delivered on it's promise. It is a beautiful colonial bungalow with the looming tamarind tree in the central courtyard, lovingly restored graceful rooms, a quiet relaxed space that you can sink into. The staff is excellent, responsive to your every need in a very unobtrusive fashion. The F and B manager Sugath was really good and the breakfast on the property was fantastic in terms of taste and presentation. Loved the large bathrooms and the cinnamon scented rooms.. Recommended for the discerning traveler who rates aesthetics and quiet efficient service.
I stayed along with 14 others at Tamarind Hill for 3 nights this August after 15 days of travelling around the island. All of us had a great time at this exclusive and peaceful oasis. Its located just 5 minutes away from the City Center and the dutch fort. We could always catch a tuk tuk to get to town and back. After all the sight seeing and activity in the fort and city it was great to come back to Tamarind Hill for the rest of the day at leisure. We also went for a walk in the vegetable market with resident chef, selected fresh vegetables and spices for dinner. A beautiful Sri Lankan Dinner was offered in the courtyard along with cookery demonstration. Staff is friendly and attentive (front gate security could do with a smile though) Rooms are clean and well kept. Breakfast service can improve a bit as it took a bit too long. We would definitely love to come back. and Recommend this place.
This is one of those lovely hotels with bags of character and history and if it could talk, probably a few stories to tell. Rooms are spacious with high ceilings and include fans and air con. Food at the hotel is really good and they have a great bar that makes a good Mojito. Staff are adorable. So polite and friendly. Hotel has a good size pool and you can see lizards run across the lawn and monkeys in the trees but they won't come near you. Galle Fort is 1.5km from the property along a flat road so takes about 15-20 mins or you can hop in a tuk tuk. Colonial charm it most definitely is and with only 10 rooms & 2 suites the service is really good.
This is a fantastic hotel. The service is faultless and the rooms are beautiful in a colonial style but with all mod cons. Don't be put off by the fact that this is just outside the Fort area. It is a 5 minute ride in a tuk tuk to the Fort. The benefits of staying slightly out of town are huge - the hotel is situated on the edge of a jungle so you have peace and tranquility plus the most beautiful swimming pool with a jungle setting. Quite simply beautiful.
Beautiful historic building with large quiet rooms in a wonderfully relaxed environment. Staff are very knowledgeable and friendly with a warm welcome and they did everything to make our stay special. The food was excellent, a mixture of western and local Sri Lankan - beautiful fresh produce, expertly prepared and well presented.
To find this retreat after a long drive from Colombo was amazing! A classic colonial mansion in the hills behind Galle with huge rooms, quality bathrooms and superb dining facilities. Drinking G&Ts around the tree lined pool listening to the sounds of the forest is something I recommend. An and say drive in to Galle and then back to this sublime retreat made for perfect days!
A nice hotel close to Galle Fort area & beaches. Very open, airy and with a huge centre courtyard. Its a heritage property which has been carefully renovated wherein one can find peacocks flying in during morning to almost mesmerise you. Great hospitality, amazing food and caring staff. You couldn't ask for more ! 5 mins away from Galle Fort - best option to stay if you are there !
We stayed here in 2016. The hotel was beautiful and all of the staff very attentive. The breakfast was lovely and plenty of food provided! We ate in the hotel one evening and the food was beautiful. It was quite expensive but worth it (and perhaps to be expected when eating in a hotel). The location was perfect for us as it is on the outskirts of Galle so very quiet but it was easy enough to walk into Galle to explore or for a meal. The real highlight for us though was watching the monkeys play in the trees around the pool and gardens. It was magical!
We stayed 2 nights there and it was very good!! Very good for a couple staying few nights, the food was delicious, the fruit was fresh and the staff were very kind and helpful. Unfortunately the pool water was muddy and foam was floating at the top which put me off swimming. There are two wifi access point which are located opposite each other in the middle of the court yard, this meant that rooms 1-4 had practically no wifi, rooms 5-8 yes, and rooms 9-12 no wifi as well. Only at te bar or out at the restaurant... you need to expect a very slow service, I took us 15 min for our drink to arrive... so if this place is really not for families and people who are in a hurry
This is an old colonial building , large rooms with all facilities , a nice swimming pool ,the evening meals were excellent and the chef was happy to chat about preferences / food etc. All the staff were friendly and professional , I had a number of documents which I needed to be printed which the office staff did for me-and bound them Quiet place , well away from bustle and yet about 10 mins to Galle
