Cannot say enough about our recent stay. The staff went out of their way to make our trip memorable and special. The manager Mr. Nihal and Mr. Senarath were very kind and attentive. They arranged a special anniversary dinner and cake for us. The staff especially Sangeet and Pradeep were most helpful. It was a real oasis in a beautiful city. We felt really treasured by all. The hotel itself is a 250 year old former home of a Dutch admiral. Restored to magnificence. The dinner both nights was extraordinary. I requested a crab curry and they delivered. It was my first time back to Sri Lanka after leaving for Canada as a four year old boy. I turn 64 next month and I can honestly say I felt like I came home. The room was pleasant and the entire experience so memorable. Thanks to all of you at Tamarind Hill
Its difficult to capture the experience in words - the dancing peacocks in the courtyard, the purple faced monkeys monkeying around, the spacious room with 4 poster bed, the bathrooms with large windows to the nature yet with privacy, excellent food (tamarind flavored yogurt!), very courteous and helpful staff. If I visit Sri Lanka on holiday again, this is one place I'm sure to stay in.
This hotel is excellent. Beautiful and spacious rooms and lovely grounds in which to relax an enjoy the peace. An infinity pool allows you to cool off at the end of the day. Eating outdoors under the tamarind tree is very special and the food was delicious. Discover Galle by foot or tuck tuck. Highly recommended to wind down after a busy safari/hiking holiday.
The place is amazing and we were attended to by Sangeeth Anjana who was excellent! A magical place with old world charm with superb service to match, I highly recommend anyone to stay at this place. The restaurant serves great food and I highly recommend you choose the Sri Lankan breakfast to start off your day
We stayed at Tamarind Hill for a couple of days during the Galle Literary Festival. The rooms were spacious, airy and very well appointed. The bathroom especially was large and well laid out. We had a private patio with a frangipani tree and a bench which was lovely. The staff were very thoughtful and always available to help. In fact, most of the time we did not see the staff and it was surprising that they ensured the whole place was kept clean and efficient without ever coming in the way. The breakfast was rather wholesome. They were also quite happy to set us up for a candle light dinner in the courtyard. The property is a little out of town which makes it better as there is absolutely no noises of any kind. In fact, the only noises you will hear are the peacocks who come into the courtyard every morning. However, within a few minutes walk from the property is a carefree, crowd-free beach which is fantastic for a walk or a run in the morning or simply watching the sunrise. All in all, we had a fantastic time. We will definitely return here.
Excellent hotel, service and food ! The rooms are very comfortable and a lovely property . it's off the main road so quiet and peaceful and close to Jetwing lighthouse. All the staff and the resident manager ,mr nihal were very helpful . Thank you .
Very delightful place, with old world charm. Place is over 100 years. Suite is extremely spacious, with a very interesting bathroom. Service is great, with staff very attentive and eager to please. Restaurant is very good.
It’s rare that I’m left grasping for superlatives. But the Tamarind Hill has flummoxed me. What can I say? Delightful rooms with comfy beds, delicious food and extraordinary service. Just when you think you need a towel, a Tuk Tuk or a Gin and Tonic a staff member mysteriously materialises to meet your every whim. A truly delightful experience.
We booked this beautiful hotel on the Small Luxury Hotels website. When I arrived my partner had just been admitted to the Galle Co-Operative Hospital with pneumonia, so I arrived on my own. The staff were absolutely wonderful for our whole stay and I am so grateful to the Manager, Mr Nihal Jayasinghe and all his staff. They were so kind. Munthaj in the front office helped me rearrange our hotel reservations with Tamarind Hill and other hotels. This was a huge help. He also came to the hospital after work to visit my partner and arranged meals to be delivered by tuc tuc. Kasuni came with me to the hospital and brought a fruit basket from the hotel as a present for my partner. Sugath, Senarath in F & B were so wonderful as were all the dining staff. They made breakfast and dinner parcels I could take to my partner in hospital. He loved the delicious food. When I could not take him the food, they would arrange for a tuc tuc driver to deliver his dinner to his ward. The service and dedication of all the staff was extraordinary and we are both so grateful. My partner spent 5 days in hospital and recovered very well. When he came back to the hotel he was amazed at the beautiful historic building, fabulous and very comfortable bedroom. We spent time at the gorgeous pool set in beautiful surroundings with monkeys in the trees. The breakfasts, lunches and dinners were all outstanding. Mr Silva is a very talented chef, such delicious food and so well presented. We were sorry to leave and hope to return. We recommend this hotel unreservedly.
This 250 year old grand house, converted to a wonderful boutique hotel was our home for two nights. My wife and I spent two days of bliss and relaxation. The hotel is quaint and has preserved its old world charm with its decor. The surrounding is quiet and is an ideal for a getaway holiday to de-stress and relax. The room and bathroom was clean, spacious and had all modern amenities. Wifi signal is excellent all around the hotel premises. The bed was comfortable and we fell asleep as soon as our heads hit the pillows. Service is impeccable. Staff are courteous and friendly and go the extra mile to make you feel comfortable. The food was out of this world, we had a mix of Western and Sri Lankan cuisine and loved every bite. For those of you interested in Local flavours please do order the Sri Lankan breakfast options. You will not be disappointed. The hotel has a small pool. There is no private beach but a clean public beach is a short distance from the property. Over all Tamarind Hill is value for money for the traveler looking to relax and getaway from the hustle and bustle of life. We loved our stay and highly recommend this property.
