Lovely holiday, second visit to a cinnamon hotel, yet again a lovely clean hotel. Staff were friendly food was excellent, could do with more shaded areas as it was at times difficult to find. Had a resident lizard and squrreils. Large turtles swam in lo lay eggs. Cross the road was the jungle, beautiful birds and large monkeys in the trees.
Very good stay in hikkkaduwa at the hikka tanz. The hotel is nice but could do with a little update in some of he rooms, we noticed they were refurbishing some of the rooms when we were staying here. The grounds, pool and facilities are all very good. The hotel backs up onto hikkaduwa beach which is ideal, nice sands etc, fairly safe to enter the sea life guards on duty. Staff are very good, polite and always looking to help you. They even brought up a cake for my wife's birthday. The food is good in general, especially in the crab restaurant. The service there was exemplary and the good matched. Every effort was made to make you feel special There could be improvements to food labelling for allergies (dairy and gluten etc) also catering for these need could be slightly improved. All in all a very good hotel. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Review follows after a second visit to the Hikka Tranz and provided a truly relaxing break helped by the beach side location and facilities. The food at the hotel remains a big attraction and the overriding decision for me to re-visit was the quality served in the buffet restaurant being to a high standard. Breakfast choices were wide and ample but it was the evening meals that were most looked forward to. There are various themed nights but without exception the Sri Lankan curries were stunning and did not disappoint together with delights of string hoppers and fiery sambol offered in a hygienic environment. The new “Cocktail Salad Bar” has been the eye-opener for me this year and for someone who does not normally entertain eating salads when there is so much choice but was invariably drawn even though there was sometimes a queue.. So what is it ? Imagine being faced with a wide array of salad ingredients and associated condiments and an expert Chef ready to prepare a salad to your taste. Your ingredient choices are added to a large cocktail shaker and the Chef then helpfully makes further additions and expertly completes the process with the dressing and condiments. The cocktail of salad ingredients are then hand shaken to produce the perfectly dressed salad. I can see Jamie Oliver “being inspired” and marketing something similar as his next kitchen gadget !! Top marks to Hamish – “The Sommelier of Salads” was nothing short of brilliant with an uncanny ability to make a perfect mouth watering salad with the correct amount of dressing to complement the chosen ingredients… All the hotel staff during my 2 week visit were exceptional and no request was considered too much and will assume this is down to the training and coaching given by the more senior managers. In this respect Amith particularly excelled and his influence is clear in the way he managed the staff in the restaurant. Bottom-line; If you’ve not been to Sri Lanka – Hiddakdua is a safe introduction to this beautiful country and the Hikka Tranz offers a safe, relaxing location and a base to explore the various attractions already commented on from previous visitors. The pool is great for those with mobility issues or small kids as has a gentle slope in. Fantastic lunch, yummy starters with juice shots then tempura calamari and delicious puddings..cheese to follow. Coffee or tea (Dilmah) in the afternoon. All the way through helpful, smiling staff.
A very good hotel. Good food with good hygiene. All staff members are very friendly and helpful. The pool area was handled in the best way, by three guys. Thanks to all especially to Amith. We stayed for four weeks and was very happy. Thanks from the Swedish couple in room 221. Elisabeth and Alf
Everything was good except the service in the verandah area. We ordered drinks but it took so long to arrive. Was'nt a busy evening, but waiters hung around chatting and forgot our order. But service in the dining area was very good.
Stayed here for 2 weeks back in February and experienced no major issues. Hotel is in ideal location and there are shops and the alcohol stores adjacent and opposite, these have different opening and closing times. Note normal shops do not sell alcohol. Rooms were kept clean but they were a bit reluctant to remove bird droppings from the balcony area, so beware! The food is very good and is so much better than anything we found in any of the outside restaurants and as such consideration should be given to the All Inclusive option. After a week it dawned on us this was the case and we ended up paying £15 a head for lunch as its so much better than anything outside of the complex. I would say we were disappointed with the food quality outside of the hotel and the attached cost, which was expensive by Asian standards! The hotel is cash free and everything is charged to the room and the staff a very keen to ensure the bill is signed for. We paid by CC at the end of the stay, but there is no back up in the form of the signed cheques, so keep a record if you are concerned about the honesty of the set up!! One word of warning if you have a serious rodent or bird issue. The Chipmunks (Sri Lankan Squirrels) run around everywhere often on your sun bed and there are a lot of Pigeons and Crows around the complex looking for food. Didn't bother us, but I know it will bother some people. I would return to this hotel, if it was in a different resort, as we expected more from the resort and Sri Lanka in general.
Fabulous location on the beach. Resort hotel but positioned in the middle of hikkaduwa, so can walk along the beach to 20 or more beach bars and restaurants and watch the turtles come up to feed late afternoon. Monitor lizards and chipmunks provide entertainment whilst relaxing in the grounds. Every room overlooks the ocean and meals taken outside against a background of crashing waves. Also a good dive centre on site with a friendly and professional team.
Everything seems perfect and Rooms were cozy and comfortable. Location was perfect with good beach break fast spread was one of the best a lot of good eateries out side over all it was perfect holiday
Located is huge and located next to the beach with very good view. All rooms have sea view (as mentioned by hotel staffs). Almost all rooms have patio/balcony, where you are relax and enjoy the view. Plus, the hotel has nice pool. Variety of foods available. The hotel has SPA in the fifth floor, where price is little high (at least for me).
