Well just got back from a fantastic 2 week stay at this hotel which is amazing. The staff are so friendly and caring and nothing too much trouble they really are a great group of people. The location is fantastic right on the beach you can swim in the sea but just take care as there is a strong under current.. Turtles up every morning and evening. The pool is clean and gardens immaculate. You can always get a sun lounger no need to rush to put your towels out at stupid o'clock although some guests did. The towel boys will always find you a spot under a tree in the shade in the fantastic garden between pool and beach. The rooms are clean and comfy with a large balcony all over looking the beach. Towel change daily and bed change every few days. Water, tea & coffee topped up whenever you need. The food was great,we were only B&B breakfast was superb, we had buffet evening meal once which was great but we felt it was expensive.Pool bar does great snacks. We spent most evenings at the hotel bar which has entertainment every evening nothing too loud just easy listening and totally chilled out.. It's 2.5 hours from airport but once expressway completed will only take an hour. Plenty of shops and a few bars outside hotel. Was a great hotel and we loved Sri Lanka so much to see and do. The local boat boys on the beach are honest and will arrange to take you on any trip you want giving you great knowledge of the area and country. Give it a go you won't be disappointed we certainly wasn't and will be back very soon.
The Hotel offers very good service. The rooms have a huge balony... overlooking the beach. On the beach Green Sea turtles come to be fed with sea grass. That in itself is a unique spectacle. We'll come back. As the beach is on the "rocky" side and leads in a coral reef, it a great spot for snorkeling.
Excellent service. Thank you Suneth, Hasanga, Jayamal, Suranga, Keerthi, Wishva. Mithun. Danny o Leif from Finland. The beer is cold and good, friendly staff people and great food. The turtles are nice. We have had a great two weeks vacation.
Though we stayed a relatively short time in the Hotel, we enjoyed it a lot. It has a very good location. Rooms have a fantastic sea view. Spa facilities are fantaastic.Pool and surrounding is refreshing. Perfect access to the sea and marvelous personal experience with the turtles. Restaurants also on a very good level. Perfectly meets a 4* level.
We have been to Sri Lanka on numerous occasions, and stayed in various star hotels. Hikku Tranz is certainly NOT a luxury or 5☆ hotel. We had a "superior" room, ha ha ha. I agree with Tramper13's comments, especially in regard to refurbishment, the guest rooms and state of the balcony, and the outside areas. There were insufficient sun shades for the amount of guests. The ones the hotel had were situated near the diving school area. If there had been more loungers and sunshades we would happily have sat elsewhere. The lighting in the communal corridors was extremely poor especially for those with poor eyesight. Luckily i always take a torch, or 2, on holiday with us. Likewise the lighting in the guest room was pretty poor. Regarding the cuisine: this I found very monotous, and generally not hot. Not everyone likes spicy, curried food for breakfast lunch and dinner. Also, being a vegetarian I was generally extremely limited as to what I could eat. Because mainly TUI guests stay at Hikku Tranz cuisine is to the tsste of the continentals, not British, taste or Indians/locals etc. We were there for Valentines night. Be careful of these 'spevial ' nights. $25 each for bbq grilled lobster - poor lobster you needed a hacksaw to try to get tiny little bit of lobster flesh. Price included overpriced bottle of wine, which you expect, and a rose for the ladies!!!!! Not worth the money. I fail to understand why hotels do not invest in industrial toasters, where guests can toast one, two, three slices of bread indepentantly to other guests. Food was not replenished quickly enough. There were problems with the television. A word of warning, re room staff. 1. We had a beautiful laminated map of Sri Lanka - bought for our first trip. The map went missing, i discovrred this when i looked for it to mark off where we visited this time. We did a tour of Northern Province with a friend before ending up in Hikkaduwa. The cost is immaterial, it's intrinsic loss to us is great. If the room boy wanted a map we would happily have bought him one. 2. What looked like expensive jar of day face cream went missing. It was full - of Astral - face cream. 3. A miniature bottle of Estee Lauder perfume was taken from bathroom was bag. 4. A nice papermate biro went missing. I did not complain because at first i did not realise ourbmap had gone missing. likewise withbface cream thouhht i haf put it in bathroom, then forgot. Next day itbwas not there. same with biro notnused it forva couple of days, nwhen I went to use it i could motbgind it. None of these items are expensive, and happily would giventhem, but not our map. If they had taken my Singalese phrase book which a extra spcial friend gave me, I would have reported it and averything else. The staff, from outside cleaners, pool boys, security, porters, up to reception etc were generally very good. I know they are all paid, and trained, to be courteous to guests but so many people trip staff like they do not exist. They thrrefore reciprocate when guests treat them as people, the same as you and me. NO I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL. Which is a huge shame. If Cinnamon spent money on this lovelynhotel, did not raise their prices, it would be fantastic.
From the minute we arrived, the hospitality, comsideration and service at this beautifully situated hotel has been AMAZING. There is really nothing negative to say and a huge contributing factor (in addition to the location, the rooms etc) is the manageress Thamadi who sees and takes care of all guests, both the big tasks and the little details, making it all feel very personal. Meeting the personnel you can feel her spirit and guidance and from day one we have felt that our personal preferences have been remembered, respected and attended to. We congrat the cinnamon hotel for having found a managress like her :-)
This is indeed a very well run hotel ...neat,clean,courteous staff, great pool and restaurants and a really great location on the beach. However the beach itself is not big at all and the coral stones discourages swimming. But getting to see and photograph turtles that emerge from the sea to shore in the evenings is quite awesome. Rooms have good views of the sea and the complimentary breakfasts are very good and expansive...there are many shops and restaurants nearby with plenty to enjoy. The Narigama beach is just 1,5 kms away and can be easily reached by tuk tuks for long leisurely walks. Nice hotel and good location would make one want to visit again....
From our point of view this is the best hotel in this region of Shri lanka ! Small but very nice and cosy territory , big clean rooms with all needful conditions and amazing view from the balcony , and the most important it is very good service and very responsive staff' And what is one of the most pleaseant things it is very good food , on breakfast and supper you can find the meal on every taste and everything cooked and served in a fantastic way)
The hotel Hikka by tranz Cinnamon in Hikkaduwa and the staf is very freindly. Syneth, Keerthi, Hasanga, Jayamal and Wishwa did always a good job in the poolbar. We like to have lunch there. Pasta Carbonara, tomato with onion and little wine was perfect in the heet. Best regards from Mats and Lena
I have stayed in a number of 4 and 5 star hotels during my two visits to tour Sri Lanka and the standard has usually been very good. Unfortunately, this hotel falls way short of the 4 star rating it seems to boast. The staff were very good during my stay there, but the hotel is in need of a serious refurbishment programme. There are many areas where it's clear that damp/mold problems have been painted over, there are areas of bare concrete, including the guest rooms. The guest rooms are generally clean but not up to 4 star standard. The balcony had quite a large deposit of bird excrement on the balcony surface and on the furniture. The food in the restaurant was good at breakfast, but they are very slow to replenish things that run out. The outside areas are well positioned, however, the surface areas are poorly maintained and in most areas there is only dirt where there should be grass. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
