We spent a week here for our honeymoon and my birthday. Though we were out and about visiting other parts of the country most days. The hotel was generally clean with nice staff. On my birthday they did leave a birthday cake in our room, wishing me a happy birthday which I thought was a nice touch. The all inclusive food menu was nice but the drinks and snacks menu is limited. We tried the crab restaurant one night, which was beautiful. It was relaxing to sunbathe at the hotel and it was very clean.
Stayed for one night with friends. The service is truly hospitable, and the facilities are star class. The buffets were amazing. Enjoyed the deserts so much! Loved every minute of it and can't wait to go back!
Hikka Tranz claims its themed after 'trance music' and calls itself 'party central'. I am assuming the guys who wrote their marketing literature think Beethoven played trance music. The reality is this hotel is old. Really really old. I'm talking about water patches on the walls (that can easily grow fungi), creaky floors and an A/C that either cools too much or doesn't cool at all. When I checked in to the room, the previous guest has already written "It's too cold" on the condensation that had built up on the room window. This is probably the oldest hotel in this stretch so the location is actually very good. Has a huge garden and a big pool. Unfortunately the beach isn't that great because there are lots of broken corals right on the beach and you just can't relax on the sands adjacent to the hotel. You will need to move a bit far from the hotel to find a nice relaxing spot. Food was actually good. That was the only good thing in this hotel. Service needs a special mention. It's pathetic. That's probably because many Sri Lankan hoteliers think they should only cater to the foreigners and not Sri Lankans. When I was relaxing on a sunbed, the guy attending to the pool bar had the audacity to ask "when are you leaving?"
If you remember you are in Sri Lanka and not in the Caribbean you should be fine This is a tired hotel on the Indian Ocean coast, the staff apart from the front desk are very friendly and the buffet has a good choice and good quality fair. All rooms seem to have a sea and pool view as always higher are better, they are a good size and have large balconies, the one we staid in was room 305 which means 3rd floor 5th from the front. Ours was tired, but maybe they will get a lick of paint before the season November to April? we stayed in September. Turtles - they have a batch of four or five that will come to the shore and take seaweed out of your hand with the aid of a local guy on the beach who pronounces his name "WaHunter" photo below. Tip- make this guy with long hair your friend, for a few hundred rupees he will bend over backwards for you if he thinks you appreciate his work with the turtles, we had free coconuts every other day and would take nothing for them. Honeymooners- if you are looking for a hotel that will not make a fuss, make no reference to your recent wedding, no flowers or additional fruit in you room, then this is the hotel for you, if you want to be made feel special then forget this place. I emailed before hand asking what the additional cost would be for the above as a surprise for my wife, A John Nayomi eventually did reply after several attempts but the quote was completely unrealistic I mentioned to a couple of the front desk that it was our honeymoon in passing but I received no mention of congratulations just a forced smile. All inclusive- this covers all food and local drinks, they don't make it easy for you it's difficult to order snacks by the pool, you have to order them in the main hotel but not whilst the main buffet is being served otherwise you have to pay. They have a crab and steak restaurant but you only get 15% discount if you eat either of them. NOT FLEXIBLE - we went off site for four days to tour Kandy and the tea plantations which meant we didn't eat or drink anything in the hotel for those four days but when we asked if we could have an extension on our last day for 1 hour so we could have a drink by the pool waiting for our taxi, it was definitely a "no chance" I asked who the manager was that would not be flexible, it was Mr Pubudu shame on you sir for the sake of half a local beer and cola. We tried to pay for them with cash but the bars cant except money... The hotel is in a great location with good views as photos below.
Great resort with very good facilities. The gym was great and the pool are was fantastic. Breakfast buffet was amazing with something for everyone. Loved the balcony outside our room. (4th Floor) We tried two of the restaurants and loved the Seafood and the Kebabs.
I visited this hotel with work colleagues end of August. Our experience with service personnel was unsatisfactory. We used the pool side bar and restaurant and our food and beverage orders were messed up twice with erroneous calculations. We had a very early start the next day but we were delayed for one and a half hours at the check out counter and our bills were messed up. Despite it been a beautiful hotel and an amazing spa our experience with service standards were disappointing. Our work plan for the day was challenged due to the late start. Hope the management provides better training for its staff and supervision to improve the service standards.
Really wonderful experience. Stayed two nights in the hotel and service is really good and excellent. Sri Lankan buffet is amazing with live action corners. Specially the Roti corner was a new experiance. Recommand for any one to spend their holidays
The location is nice, beautiful beach, good pool side, good food, average service, good value for money, the name is a bit misleading, there is no "trance" music for those who think it's a place for that! understaffed on the front desk, they need more people to help guests upon check-in and check-out. The pool needs more cleaning!
Hikka Tranz is located in a very touristy town full of curio shops, variety of seafood and other restaurants, pubs bars and night clubs. The Hotel itself enjoys great views of the surrounding ocean. Sunsets are memorable here. The food and service is superlative. The food stands out in this hotel. Its a colourful vibrant hotel full of life. We enjoyed the 4th Floor Jacuzzi Suite with its 270 degree views
Had a great time. We had lots to do. It was crowded but plenty of space and it was fun. Good buffet. Need to keep rooms longer. It was a happening place. People did what they liked, went to the beach, played volleyball and swam. More sports facilities are welcome.
