We spent 3 days in the Earls Regency in Kandy during a tour of the Cultural Triangle. This was by far the best hotel we have stayed in in Sri Lanka. The service was excellent, cleanliness and quality of the rooms and the hotel in general was far superior to many. The evening buffet and breakfast were superb with a huge range of excellent quality food both Western and Eastern. Would thoroughly recommend this for a trip to Kandy.
Good and fantastic hotel werry tasty breakfast buffet great...and werry friendly staff. - but when we was to check out it was the first hotel in my life that happened...we hawe to wait untill the staff had checked our room that we dont hawe distroing something in our room... incredible action....but no problem we want to come back some day it,s so beatiful place.
Loved this hotel. Rooms are located as if in caves. You need to pass a small bridge to reach your room. Buffet and food is good. At night we had a group of handicapped band, and which i loved so much. Service, hotel design, greeting, food is all great. Thank you
Both my partner and I really enjoyed our stay at the Earl’s Regency, in particular their lovely pool area and breakfast (with view!) in the morning. Also not too expensive for a 5-star hotel. If you’re coming from smaller lodge-style hotels this is a great place to relax and recharge if you’re visiting Kandy. Would definitely recommend. Service was also good - they provided a lunch box for us for our train ride when we left.
We really enjoyed our stay here. Fabulous pool and utterly charming staff. Nothing was too much trouble although I am beginning to think that this is the way the people of Sri Lanka are naturally. Just had our last evening meal in the main restaurant and were looked after very well by Udara. I hope he goes far in his profession. We were very impressed with his quiet attentiveness. We shall miss the Earls Regency when we leave tomorrow. NB. If thinking of buying jewels...try the hotel shop. Far better designs and quality than the ones you are take to by guides (and price)
We stayed for two nights in December in two rooms. The welcome from the staff was very pleasant and set the tone for our stay. The rooms were clean, spacious and very comfortable. We ate in the main restaurant and were delighted by the quality of the food and the level of service. Recommended.
The hotel was in a easy to find position you received a warm welcome when you arrived the rooms were colonial style with spectacular views from our balcony, buffet restaurant excellent variety and a nice area outside. unfortunately our room was nearly 300 m from the bar area.Overall very good
Although I have heard much about Hotel Earl's Regency, I did not get a chance to visit there until recently. We attended a wedding held at the Far pavilion Outside Terrace of Earl's Regency. The food was nice, especially the desserts were served with much variety. But I was shocked by the impoliteness and lack of courtesy of the staff. I really had the impression that the management of the hotel was somehow ignorant of how the functions are handled by the staff. Although the function was to be held until 4 p.m, the staff started clearing the tables and packing off the cutlery while the couple was still on the dance floor. The movements of the staff members were quite annoying sometimes and the noise that they were making with trays, cutlery etc; was a disturbance to the whole event. It was so bad for the reputation of a hotel like Earl's Regency. We were disappointed as we expected a much better service there.
We stayed here for our visit to the Kandy Perahera (which should be on any adventuress traveller's bucket list ) We were met on arrival by the manager who upgraded our room to a delightfully spacious room overlooking the pool which I might add is very interesting , as swimming pools go. The location is just out the main area of Kandy with an attractive rural appeal . We had a car so there was no inconvenience but it may be If you were without wheels. The dining facilities are very good with indoor and outdoor options and we enjoyed the range of breakfast options.
The hotel is very nice and has a great pool. My main issue with the hotel is that it claims 5 stars and thus leaves very high expectations. It’s a 4 star feel on most accounts. Traffic in Kandy is usually so congested that it’s a good 30-45 min outside town so factor that into your travel plans. Breakfast is good but by no means 5 star. Variety and presentation are compared to a 3 star hotel. Cappuccino was not included only regular coffee which seemed ridiculous to us. The rooms are clean and nice but again nothing screams 5 star. The bathtub was filled with water upon arrival. Already cold since it’s been just sitting there since morning. For a Westerner this ‘custom’ seemed very odd. My first thought was someone else took a bath and forgot to clean it up. Rooms are geographical so separated from lobby that they send you with a guide to find it. Small elevators and long walks to get from A to B. High tea is quite nice and complementary in an area with a lovely view to river valley. The reason I give 3 out of 5 points is that the relative value didn’t match the price. We paid less for more quality in Colombo. If this hotel would have been 100$ I would say fantastic but it’s been over 200$ a night.
