Stayed here with my wife from 25/09/17 until 05/10/17 on the all-inclusive package. We were in one of the beach view villas. Accommodation: The Villa were spacious with a king sized bed and a table and two chairs in the seating area with a tv on the wall which had lots of channels from across the world including the bbc world service channel. The shower room was also spacious and modern. The room comes with a keypad safe and fantastic air condition and roof fan. There is also a min-bar but that obviously isn't included in your all-inclusive package. Food: The main restaurant has breakfast buffet from 7-10am (4-7 for continental) and lunch from 12-3pm and then dinner from 7-10pm. Plenty of choice (around fifteen different meals and at least 4 veggie options) - always rice and pasta dishes also. The dessert options were also first class. Other options for food were the pool bars at both pools which offered burgers, nachos, fish and chips etc at various times of the day. Drink: Lager is the local lion lager and was tasty enough. Think efes when in turkey or tenants when in scotland and you will get the jist. Local spirits in big measures also. Unlimited water from the cooler at the bar and soft drinks a plenty (only diet version was coke zero). Plenty of cocktails to choose from - albeit they are pre mixed - and over the ten nights we were there we didn't feel any of the drinking was too 'samesy'. Pools: Two pools. The noisy pool is massive and has all the activity going on around it. The quiet pool was nice for a change when you wanted some peace and quiet. Staff: En-masse the most helpful and good natured staff I have came across. Obviously there is the usual human range within this but anytime your glass was empty they were offering refills, plates didn't sit after you finished for any time and the reception staff will do their best at all times to help you. Scenery: you are right on the beach so sunset is awesome. You can sit outside the main bar area and watch the sunset over the palm trees. The water is choppy and the red flags were out all the time but the need to swim in the ocean is pretty irrelevant when you have the biggest pool in sri lanka at your disposal. The gardens are well maintained and the chipmunks who share the sun loungers with you are amusing to watch. Facilities: There is a gym, a tennis court, a spice garden, pool and snooker tables which are all hidden away a little bit and possibly need more clear signage but I was there to relax so wasn't overly keen to find any of these facilities. Tours: On the first morning there we met Nipon on the street outside the hotel and I had heard of See Lanka tours from here before going. We booked two tours with him. The Kandy tour at £60pp and the Negombo tour at £20pp. Both were tremendous and such good value. His father Raj done the Kandy tour which takes you to pineapple plantation, tea plantation, spice gardens (including massage), elephant foundation for elephant ride and the elephant orphanage to feed the elephants milk before heading into Kandy for lunch to see the buddhist temple. You are picked up at 6am and you get home at around 7.45pm. The Negombo tour takes you on tuk-tuks with Dinu (Great guide) and then onto the train, back into the tuk-tuk to visit the fishing village including the market. You are shown the jail, courthouse and some of the sadder sites to show you both sides of Negombo. Finally you are taken back to the hotel on a speedboat where you tour the backwaters and are shown some spectacular scenario and wildlife. It is incredible value for the price. Weather: it was around 26/27 most days with the odd rain shower that would last about five minutes and be forgotten in ten. Cloud cover on some days and the breeze/wind of the ocean was perfect for a light blue skinned scotsman. Tips: Over ten days i spent around £150 on tips. Still no idea if this is too much or not enough. You have the option to tip everyone from the bellboy, to the waiters, to the roomboys, to the bar staff, the tour guides and taxi drives etc. I basically gave 1000 rupees (£5) to anyone who deserved a tip although some times it was less, others it was more. It is hard to judge but no one forced a tip on you at any time. This was our first visit to Sri Lanka and it has blown us away. What a place, what a hotel, what tremendous people and culture. The scenario is amazing and it is also a very humbling place at times. Due to See Lanka we felt we witnessed both the good and the bad realities of Sri Lanka - this enhanced the experience. Happy to answer any question because I have probably forgot something.
Just spent 7 nights here and had a great time Room- stayed in superior room with sea view, good sized room 204 which was kept spotless by reuwan who did a superb job Sands restaurant- ate here 3 tines ,always lots of choice and great service by chinmbaru and Manjula Waves- ate here 3 times food and service was first class by all the lads Mango village- very enjoyable night with a very informative chef Trips- done 2 trips with Dinu and Lionel from see lanka tours one to negombo and second to turtle sanctuary, tsunami museum Weather-only had 1 afternoon of rain although very warm Staff everywhere on site were very friendly and helpful, entertainment good as they tried hard. Only down side is that the hotel is a bit isolated but will definitely visit again.
Loved the majority of things about the Blue Dolphin & would definitely recommend. Staff mainly lovely & friendly - nice food & plenty of choice. Room was immaculate & service great. Only negatives would be mini-bar was not part of all-inclusive & had to ask for fridge to be unlocked to keep our own drinks cold. No sun-beds on beach & sea to rough to be able to swim but plenty of sun-beds round pool & never a problem finding one. Great location & had tours through Walkers & See Lanka outside hotel - Tuk tuk, train & boat a must for £20 with See Lanka - Nipun & Dinu made it really special 😊
Our only complaint is that we have to leave!! Just spent four glorious weeks here at Club Hotel Dolphin and enjoyed every minute as always. We have visited here many times and have never been disappointed. Situated about 45 minutes from the airport you are soon being greeted in reception with the smiley staff, given warm towel and cold refreshing drink.Check in is quick and you are soon shown to your room with luggage taken there by the Bell boys. The weather was a little rainy at the beginning of September but soon were enjoying long hot days. There are two pools, one activity pool and the quiet pool where we spent our time. The pool staff are very efficient and look after you very well.Beach towels provided and reading and sunglasses cleaned for you.Such a nice touch. The sea is rough and the red flag was flying all the time but we do not venture into the sea as it slopes very steeply so this wasn’t an issue to us. Each pool has its own snack bar for light meals and drinks There are two restaurants Sands and Waves.Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in Sands restaurant where there is always plenty of choice even for the fussy eaters. The chefs will even cook you anything of your choice should you wish. This restaurant is available to all All Inclusive Guests.Waves restaurant is open for dinner and is included in the Gold All Inclusive package which includes unlimited wine.Complimentary meals are also given to guests in this restaurant. Other eating places are the Sea Food Market where you select your fish which is then cooked for you and the other is the Mango Village. This is set outdoors(weather permitting) in a typical Sri Lankan village setting. Here you can eat some authentic Sri Lankan food, curries, hoppers, egg hoppers etc. The grounds are kept immaculate throughout by a team of hardworking gardeners who always have a smile and a greeting for you. There was entertainment in the evenings ranging from live music to fire dancers. The animation team also put on shows in the outdoor theatre. For excursions we thoroughly recommend that you see Nipun of See Lanka travel. He will tailor make any trips you want.Nipun can be found on the beach wearing a blue polo shirt with his name on or at his fathers restaurant the Canal Garden to the right of the hotel(just follow his sign opposite reception). We did a wonderful trip with Raj his father up to Ella, then train to NuwelliEya where you see the beauty of inland Sri Lanka. While we were there we celebrated our 49th wedding anniversary which was made very special by the waiters in Waves. We were given a celebratory cake after our meal and a beautifully decorated table.Looking forward to celebrating our next anniversary there. We stayed in a villa which was kept spotlessly clean by our room boys. The hotel is celebrating its 34th anniversary later this month so it may not be as modern as some of the newer hotels but this hotels main asset its staff who are all a credit to the Dolphin some of which have worked there over 30years which speaks volumes. We have visited here since early 2000 and have known some of the staff since then who we consider our friends and look forward to meeting up with them. Thanks to all the staff and management for another fantastic holiday and see you soon!
Location: On the beach but beach does not belong to the hotel. As soon as you go on the beach you will be approach by multiple people trying to sell you excursion or massage or taxi service. Beach itself is nice, beautiful copper sand- couldn't swim as sea was rough. There is nothing around the hotel apart from Hamilton canal. Room: Had a superior room with a sea view and could enjoy beautiful sunset from the balcony 😍 Bit disappointed with a lack of iron in the room. Restaurants: Food in main Sands buffet restaurant was very good, always fresh with lots to choose from. Even if you are not a big fan of curry you would be able to find other things to eat. Also went to Mango Village which was great- seen chefs preparing chicken curry and roti which was a nice experience. Did not use Waves restaurant which was not included in all inclusive package... Snack bar had a small selection of sandwiches and burgers. Can even have fish and chips there in case you will miss it. Staff: All staff work very hard, they are very nice and friendly and always trying their best to make you happy. Manu at the bar makes fantastic cocktails and Rama at the restaurant always pops by to say hello. Weather: Was a bit concerned as the forecast indicated rain on every day but it was good actually and even managed to get a nice gold tan. Excursion: Used See Lanka for all trips- Nipun was very friendly and very flexible so you can tailor the trips to your needs. Definitely recommend to go to Sigiriya. General: Hotel had lots of maintenance works at the time of our stay which was a bit disturbing. Also is open for locals for weekends and public holiday which makes it a bit loud and crowded. Once a month the is a full moon day on which you cannot get any alcohol in Sri Lanka and that also includes hotel premises but staff supplied couple of beers one day before.
We were a party of 4 ladies, booking a room each. When we arrived, we found we had each been upgraded to a garden suite! (Apparently it is the hotel policy to upgrade if quiet.) We were very impressed with these and continued to be so... The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful when we needed it, without being intrusive. We even learned a few local words and phrases. The all inclusive package covered all we needed. Yes we did miss wine, but we got quite a taste for Lion beer and mojitos instead! The food in the buffet restaurant was good. I enjoy curry and at each meal (even breakfast) there were a number of local and varied curry dishes. I certainly tried lots of new and delicious dishes that I would love to have again. As some of my friends had more delicate tummies, there were still plenty of options with less spicy dishes, pasta etc available. None of us went hungry! We also had a meal in the a la carte restaurant from a set menu. The food again was very good. We decided to have wine then, but it was about average restaurant price for London, so not exorbitant. We used both pools and although it was too rough to swim, enjoyed walking along the beach with the dramatic waves aswell. We all bought various items, including beautiful cashmere pashminas in the very well priced shop and were impressed with the range of items available for gifts and souvenirs. Unfortunately, one of our party also later needed to see a doctor. This was conveniently arranged for him to visit to the room. He was helpful and considerate in the way he treated my friend, bringing the prescribed medication with him and thoroughly explaining it. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday, having days out to see some of the country too using 2 companies. Our recommendation would certainly be to see Nipon at See Lanka Tours for trips, as his service exceeded the other company we used. And we all agreed that we would return to this hotel and Sri Lanka ingeneral.
A spacious room and Clean surrounding. Had a solo stay. Buffet was good with lot of choices. However pool timing and Gym timings should be bit longer as pool closed by 7 p.m. overall a good experience and good music at Dinner.
We have just got home from this hotel and we miss it already from the moment we arrived the reception staff made us feel at home lovely smile and a speedy check in from getting you a cold towel to a lovely refreshing drink and then sort your key out and then your bags are taken to your room .was shown how the safe works to the tv channels to how the laundry worked and then reception phoned the room and asked was we happy with the room and did we have enough water great staff .on the second day we had a knock on the door it was the gentlemen that cleans the room he introduced him self as gamie this man works so hard to make your holiday so special from the bed decorating he does and always has a smile for you greeting good morning .he should be the hotel employee of the month and he is a great asset to the hotel .the room was amazing the grounds always looked great the staff work so hard to make your holiday a special one .We did a lot of home work before we picked this hotel and was worried about some of the reviews it had about the food .but if you are not happy with the food in this hotel then you need to go to the doctors as the food choice every day was so good and tasted even better top marks the the chef's and the waiters always make time to speak to you getting your drinks and working hard to make you feel special. The staff make this hotel so special and we can't Waite to come back you made our holiday a truly great one thank you so much we love this hotel and look forward to meeting you all again next year and if you can give any recognition to gamie would be great what a great member of your staff he is .We was in room 227 superior sea view
