From the moment I began corresponding with Norlyn, everything at Pura vida was perfect. Communication: Norlyn provided insightful and up to date information on everything from transportation to tours to restaurants etc. He responded quickly to all questions and provided a wealth of info. He told me information my airline (Nature Air, which is a separate, horrific story) failed to and helped in reorganizing all of my plans. Arrival: Norlyn picked us up direct from the beach and brought us to the cabinas. He pointed out routes, restaurants, grocery stores on the way and gave hours, costs, etc. Location: à little further than some of. The places Hut perfect for everything. Nothing is far. The beach is 400 m away. Accommodation: a/c was great. Room was a nice size. Beds were maybe a little hard but after a long day in the sun your body barely notices.bathroom was nice and water was warm enough to not be ice cold but cold enough to be refreshing from the sun. Service: we asked for our laundry to be done and it was washed and dried within two hours and ready for us. Breakfast: one of the reasons I chose pura vida over others and it was well worth it. Breakfast was fantastic every morning and delicious. It was cooked according to your preferences and restrictions. And based on your days activities. Delish. Tours: norlyn booked everything and made it easy. He didn't charge any commission or anything and gave us entire write up on what we needed and when and where we needed to be. He dropped us off and picked us up for every tour. Licking us up was key especially after a long day and wanting to just relax. Watching people trudge up the hill looked miserable. Personalized service: at two points we needed something extra and norlyn immediately offered up himself to hell. We only needed this once and he drove us personally in his boat to sierpe to catch our plane. He even took us on a side tour of the mangroves. Everything was perfect. And personable. At $50 I felt like I was at the Ritz or the four seasons. It was amazing. I'd you don't stay at pura vida in drake, then why are you going to drake?
We stayed here for three nights and enjoyed our stay. Positives: Norlyn picked us up from the boat on our arrival as promised. Room was good size with lots of storage space, a table and chairs, AC and a table out front as well. Good breakfast included in the price, and if you are going to Corcovado they will make it early for you. Well stocked communal kitchen which they keep very clean. Location is up a steep hill but close to most things and quiet. We saw lots of birds from the property including macaws and toucans, and a monkey joined us for breakfast on our last morning. Negatives: the reception was rarely staffed, which was not a problem for us because we had booked our tours in advance and didn't really need their help, but might have been annoying otherwise. Second most uncomfortable pillow I have ever had (after a place in Nicaragua!)
My family of four a great stay at Cabanas Pura Vida. It was a very clean, quiet, and well run B&B. Air conditioning was a bonus The owners did a great job of setting us up with excursions for snorkeling and touring the National Park.
The place was managed by a very helpful and friendly couple. The place was clean and the breakfast was great. Only four minutes walking distance to the beach. I would definitely choose the same place if I go back!
This is a family-run business and you can really tell the difference in the level of service received and the friendliness of Norlyn and Gabriela, and Mitchi. Norlyn was in touch with us a few days before the arrival to know what time we would be arriving at the accommodation so that he would meet us on the beach. This was really good as we arrived using the Sierpe river boat, and we would have struggled to carry the luggage to the accommodation. Thanks to Norlyn meeting us on the beach, this was just a breeze. He even dropped us off on our departure. The breakfast everyday was great and changed. They would also accommodate having breakfast earlier to fit in with leaving early for the activities! The Cabinas Pura Vida can also book tours and prices are same to all other providers, and Norlyn would also drop-off, saving some time walking to pick-up points. There is also the facility of shared kitchen, and although we didn't use it, its definitely a good to have. Would definitely stay here again!
The folks at Cabinas Pura Vida were very friendly and helpful. We were going to Parque Nacional Corcovado the next morning, so they told us that breakfast would be at 5:30 a.m. We also made arrangements with them to hold onto our bags, take us to the beach by 5:45 a.m. so we could take the 6:00 boat to the park, then bring our bags to the beach at 2:00 p.m. so we could be on the 2:30 boat to Sierpe. Breakfast was good. The room is of adequate size but not large, and the shower has an overhead on/off valve that my wife very nearly could not reach. The temperature was good. It is very humid here and wet clothes did not dry overnight. In general, Drake is fairly primitive. The roads are dirt and the main road immediately starts climbing the hill. It got dark while we were walking to the hotel. In hindsight, I should have arranged a ride instead of walking the 1/4 mile.
cabinas pura vida is very close to the village s center. Rooms have 4 beds each,a doble and a bunk beds . hot water and clean bathroom (not provide bath foam or shampoo like all hotels in Csta Rica)Breakfast is very good and the open kitcken is really a good possibility, well equipped and a big fridge. the family owner is great and helpful for all your needs. No charge for tours and the owner take you at the boat by car for free on your tours At the moment only 4 rooms ..... book it in advance
We had the small room with a queensize bed. The room was very clean and the breakfast was good. The bed was very hard and not really comfortable and the self-heating showerhead looked a bit dangerous to me with water flowing down the electricity cables, but we survived ;-) It was nice that they picked us up from the boat and drove us back. It was okay for 2 nights.
If you're looking to get away, and Drake Bay is that destination, then you need to stay at Cabinas Pura Vida. The price is right and the owner is very accommodating. Norlyng went out of his way to make sure we enjoyed our time there. He set up local tours, made sure we got to them on time and offered his assistance any time we needed it. From the moment we stepped off the water taxi until we departed, he was truly the perfect host. And don't miss out on the breakfasts!
Let me say the people who run this are some of the nicest people I have ever met! Highly recommend this place, and definitely book excursions through here as well. They took such great care of us that I will be back again soon!
