Once upon a time, not long after the Grimm brothers died, this may have a grand hotel. But then everyone slept for a hundred years and forgot the hotel. It still has its 4 Stars on the wall but nothing remains to authenticate this plaque. No room service, no staff (except a single person to check you in and out). No air-con. No bag handlers. No city or tourist information. What constitutes 4 stars anyway? In my opinion, this is a one star. Breakfast on day one caused our site seeing to be interrupted with desperate dashes to find bathrooms. On a positive note, the lifts worked fine, but I think these were likely installed at a later date.
My Czech friends lived 2 blocks away from this hotel so they always use it. However when we were there there were non stop tour groups which meant the other guests got short shrift. One day it was impossible to get coffee because the staff were overwhelmed with the tour groups. The breakfast offerings varied widely depending whether you were before or after the tour groups, which get up earlier than we did. The room itself was fine, but our bathwater ran black with rust. The shower was OK, guess the head held the rust! Breakfast fine for my husband, not so good for me as I am celiac. They did have GF cracker things. The square in the front gets noisy due to a music school across the road. This hotel rates as OK, but no better than OK.
Old furniture, ancient small tv sets, old carpets, very poor breakfast, no air conditioning (nothing at all). It is fairly close to the city centre, but otherwise it has nothing good. The minibar only has water and it is not even replenished daily. Very dissapointing.
Stayed for 1 night a few weeks ago. The good points were that it is located close to the city center, that staff were extremely welcoming and helpful, it was clean and reasonable value for money. Whilst of course it is an old building the room that I had (204) really did need updating as the furniture, decor and especially the bathroom (have not seen a brown coloured bathroom suite since the 1970s) were tired. Might just have been this room of course.
We visited Boskovice for my nephews wedding. Dodgy feelings beforehand however, once we arrived the friendliness of the local people blew us away, It started when we arrived at Brno airport & where recommended a restaurant in Brno where we had a terrific meal (German based) at a very reasonable price. We then proceeded to Boskovice, a small friendly town with a number of really good restaurants, especially the Blue Ocean, really good food at very reasonable prices. On one occasion we ( a party of thirteen) arrived 20 minutes before closing time & after about 2 minutes discussion between manager & staff it was agreed we could be accommodated. A couple of drinks later we were served a splendid meal at a very reasonable price, many thanks to Katzy Martin. We stayed ( 19 of us ) in 5 rooms & 1 family suite in the Hotel Slavia, whilst the rooms were Basic, the friendliness of the staff more than compensated for this. Breakfast & evening meals were very good & also good value. All of the staff were pleasant, helpful & friendly however, Nicola was in a class of her own. Thank you Nicola, we will be back. The reception staff were so very friendly and helpful in every way. The room was spacious and clean. We had a meal in the restaurant, and drinks on the terrace, all were very good and the service was friendly and quick. The hotel is very conveniently and centrally located in the historic area, a short taxi ride from the station. Breakfast choices were good, although not a huge selection. Given the price, we were very happy with the standard of the food and the accommodation in the hotel. We are planning to return to Brno and will go back to Hotel Slavia.
We spent four days (three nights) in Brno and were very happy with the Slavia. The welcome was friendly and helpful - as were all the staff throughout our stay. Room was enormous with an extremely comfortable bed. The decor may not be 21st century but everything was impeccably clean and comfortable, and everything worked. The free wi-fi was excellent. Plenty of variety for breakfast. As other reviews have said, the location is superb: it's right beside the Brno Philharmonic concert hall (Besední dům), a very short walk to numerous restaurants and shops, less than 10 minutes walk through the city to the two opera houses, and so on. Everything about this hotel was pleasing and the staff were extremely helpful with things like an early check-in. Parking right outside the front door is also a big plus (there's a small charge for this - well worth it). Unless you want a place full of brand-new furniture, this is a fine hotel with a lot of charm - we'll certainly be back. Excellent value for money.
At this hotel one gets the impression that they have gone out of their way to provide guests with a comfortable, quality experience. There is a pervading atmosphere of integrity. The rooms have as fine a quality of furnishing as one could expect for the price range. There is a comprehensive menu for room service, and a mini bar in the rooms. The food is simply excellent, the staff helpful and the rooms comfortable. I really enjoyed my stay here.
I was lucky to stay at the Slavia Hotel in Brno. Although it was only a short stay, my experience is definitely positive. I like history and roots of this hotel reach to 1893. I do love music and the building has several buildings in its neighbourhood connected with Musae: first of all there is the home of the Brno Philarmonic Orchestra in the traditional Besedni House designed by Theophil von Hansen, then there is the Academy preparing top musicians and singers and there is the site where the most modern Music House would be in near future. Not enough there are also two buildings of Moravian Gallery within easy reach. And inside the hotel you will find opportunity to listen to music. Ms Ondrackova from the sales department is ready to organize events decorated with music, she herself studies contemporary singing. I enjoyed my stay at the Slavia Hotel.
Myself and two friends stayed here recently in a triple room for three nights. The hotel is in a perfect location, just a short walk to the main square and all the bars, restaurants and attractions. The staff are very friendly and very helpful, the beds were so comfy and the room was very warm. Rooms are cleaned daily and the free wi fi is brilliant. We all agreed it was bargain at £60 each, which included breakfast, which was the usual continental fare, plus scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon. The only negatives are that we had to hunt for plug sockets, and finally found one below the desk and near the bed, ground level. I would recommend taking an extension lead if you have a few things to charge. The shower is low, and doesn't have a curtain, but is was powerful and this wasn't really a problem. Breakfast was good, with lots a selections of cheese and ham, but it isn't refilled very quickly, one of our party had to wait 5 minutes for cheese. However, I still feel this hotel deserves a 5 star rating due to its location, comfortable beds and super helpful staff. I would recommend Brno as a city break and this hotel.
