I stayed here my last night on my Notre Dame trip since I had an early flight the next morning. When I arrived, it was just before 2 pm. Desk clerk said I was too early to check-in. I said I was Spire and had requested early check-in online! Why have this option if the hotels aren't going to use it? She found me a room and then was overruled by someone else because she was going to give me a mobility access room, and the second lady wanted to save that just in case. No problem so I was given a room on the 3rd floor. I asked when I checked in where I could get a good breakfast about 6 am and was told Top Notch. When I looked on TripAdvisor, it looked as if the restaurant had gone out of business, but it is open from 6 am to 3 pm daily. I hope TripAdvisor will fix this as I wrote a review and let them know it was open! I got my stuff and went to my room. The key didn't work the first time so I returned to the lobby and was given 2 this time in case 1 didn't work. The room was fine with kitchenette area, king sized bed, a/c that worked with some prodding, a desk, some long-term supplies, and a good sized bathroom with tub. I had just had a big lunch and had to use the facilities. Everything looked fine when I entered the bathroom, but one flush and very little activity. Needless to say, the liquids would eventually go down but not the solids. It never overflowed, thank goodness! I didn't report the issue since I was by myself and was leaving the hotel for a few hours and didn't want anyone in my room since there was no safe or secure area! When I returned it was after 9 pm, and since I was leaving before 6 am, I just waited until I checked out to report the problem. My apologies to whoever cleaned up the mess and unclogged the toilet! I doubt I would stay here again but might give it a second chance if I had an early flight! Everyone was friendly, especially the lady at check-in and the guy at check-out who tried to explain why there was a charge on my invoice even though I used points. He said that they billed IHG so not to worry. As of today, nothing has actually posted to my credit card, but I will continue to monitor. Even though there were only about 10 vehicles (mostly large trucks and vans with out of town workers, I guess), I felt safe and saw no issues. The lot was clean with a few bumpy spots to avoid. Lobby was clean. They have a laundry room for guests and a workout area by the elevator on the the ground floor, but I used neither. This was my 2nd Candlewood experience (once in Vegas a few years ago), and it delivers what is promised. I usually prefer my luxuries but have no complaints with what this brand provides its guests!
I've stayed at Candlewood Suites all over the country, and I am consistently impressed by the quality of both the property and the customer service I receive. The South Bend Airport location is no exception. The hotel is in a great location, near the airport, a few miles from downtown, and easily accessible from highway 31. There are plenty of food options nearby if the supplies from the in-hotel store aren't your speed. The check in process was quick, and the staff was very friendly right from the start. I was a little worried when I found out there was a middle school hockey team staying in the hotel all weekend, but I never heard a peep. Once I got into it, the room was clean, spacious, and stocked with some tasty freebies like coffee and popcorn. The shower water was hot and the pressure was perfect. When I was checking out, the front desk clerk was kind enough to call me a cab to take me back to my car. That was just one more little thing they didn't have to do. I plan to be in South Bend again for work soon, and I'll definitely stay here again.
This is my first time visiting this hotel. Close to airport, clean room, great comfy bed. Nice perk free popcorn in room. The heater/ac unit was a little loud but worked well. Next time I'm in town I would stay here
This is the second booking..Here for business; and my second room booked this week at the Candlewood Suites in South Bend, Indiana. The rooms were clean...and cozy..Kitchen has stove, pans, and even George Foreman! Dvd's to check out...and free internet. My stays have been fantastic! Thanks Candlewood ! It's been Sweet xoxoxoox
Clean rooms, comfortable beds, friendly staff, quiet atmosphere. Near airport, large truck/RV-camper parking. Free microwave popcorn in room. Firemen Union restaurant across the street open to the public.
Everything you would expect from a well operated Candlewood Suite. Very clean, housekeeping really needs to be commended, they do a real nice job. Newer property, well maintained. Room is well equipped with dishes, dish towels, dishwasher, micro etc. They have everything you need for a comfortable stay. Small item shop in lobby. Parking is ample good for car with trailer, tight for RV may want to call, ok for bobtail tractor only. Friendly staff 24 hours. This property is a good choice.
We had to go to South Bend, IN. The accommodations at the Candlewood Suites South Bend Airport were just fine. The staff was very friendly and the rooms were clean. We didn't get to see what they offered for breakfast but I'm not sure I understood it either. They have a pantry where they have varied snack items that you take on the honor system. (Either drop the money in the box or write what you took on the paper provided along with your room number and it will be charged to you.) Apparently the breakfast item are also there so do I pay or not?
We were in town for a concert and needed a last minute hotel for the night. Jaime (I think) was wonderful and made sure we had a room ready quite early because of the time restraints due to the concert. Room was clean and cool comfortable. Desk staff and management were incredibly nice and accommodating. Thank you very much!
I have stayed in other candelwood suites before and this one disappointed me . There are a number of similar properties in the area that are newer that would probably not have the issues we dealt with. 1) there was a large hole in the chair ( like a knife) 2) the room was run down 3)the extra bedding was not in the room we had to ask for it, 3 ) the couch was U shape and sunk in the middle 4 ) the bath tub was very slippery as there no mat and the tub itself was slick 5) Handles were ripped off one of the cabinets 6) even though it had 2 rooms there was only one one air conditioner . It blew cold air next to the couch and the ceiling vent was expected to push the cold air into the adjoining bedroom. this design did not work very well .
We stayed in room 114 (king size studio, ground floor) on May 13 and 14 2017, non-refundable rate $102 + 75 pet fee (2 dogs) + tax. I was truly impressed with this hotel. The room was absolutely spotless. No smoke or pet smells, full size fridge, dishwasher, 2 burner stove (no oven) microwave. All appliances were clean (contrary to other places I have stayed at and cringed). They truly thought of everything; dishes, utensils, glasses, cups, colander, dish towels, dish detergent, paper towels, you name it, it had it. The bed was comfortable, front desk staff was very accommodating and polite. It's very hard to find a good place to stay with pets, and most places charge a fee for each pet. $75 for the stay is a bargain, and coupled with the service - 24 hr front desk, free coffee 24/7, pet exercise area with free doggy bags) and quality of the room, you truly can't go wrong by staying here. Location is about 7-10 min from 80. Gas station is 1 block up the street, lots of restaurants and fast food places within a 5 mile range. Do not go to Vulcano. In spite of the reviews, our food experience was terrible (see my review under South Bend restaurants).
