Ok I first stayed here 8 years ago and was so excited to return with my family and show them what I had experienced on my first ever holiday here. Now I’m back home and very disappointed. I feel Sahara beach has got a bit big for its boots. The rooms... lovely and clean, minus the cockroaches. I was on 3rd floor and had them in my room. The maids do an excellent job keeping the rooms clean and always something beautiful made from my towels when I returned to my room. The food, take pot noodles if your fussy because out of the 7 days I was there I think the chip fat must of not been cleaned, the chips were dirty and soggy and the food is the same everyday. It was cold and they would serve one tray of chips when the restaurant holds approx 300 people a time so was always waiting around for things to be topped up. Out of the 7 nights I was there I had to lay my own table 4 of them for a party of 8, sometimes only had the option of turning the dirty table clothes because all waiters were busy, we were stupid and gave our waiter a large tip on the first day expecting the service I received the first time I visited Sahara beach after this he didn’t bother and seeing everyone else table looking all nice and clean it was a bit gutting. Thomas cook rep laughed in my face when I tried to complain about one of our trips to the zoo in 41c heat, we were told breakfast will be served from 6 as we left at 7 when we went to the breakfast hall it was in darkness and everything was covered over. We then had to pay for a cup of coffee and water to take on the trip. When I arrived back at the hotel and tried to discus this with the male rep he smirked at me and said well the restaurant was open because I was there, he really wasn’t as myself and another family looked for him or his wife to ask about food before we left for the zoo and pirate ship. He’s rude!! Lunch on the pirate ship was 2 small bits of chicken and 2 bits of bread. I paid my tax for all my party when I arrived at the hotel to be summons to front desk 2 days later to say I hadn’t paid it, I had the receipts to prove otherwise but one of them was for a different family so when you do pay your tax CHECK YOUR RECIPT. The peanut man, don’t get me started on him. We bought a shish pipe and he told us 80tdn and he would get us good tabacco to go in it, he never did and always had an excuse to why he didn’t give us our money back... Thief!! We went on the madina trip and if you do go on this the 3D museum was the best thing about it, the tour guide took us and left us outside a shop and have to meet back up there, I got the feeling he was getting commission from the sales in the shop he left us outside of, we walked past lots of stalls I wanted to stop at but were ushered to these 2 shops the men inside were rude and kept ref us as “bloody English” people. There was police following us wherever we went to keep us safe. Trips... Don’t book with Thomas cook, go see the men outside the shops and let them make your memories for you, Thomas cook are all about the numbers and money they can make. What made me give this a 3 star rating was the beach hut I went to for lunch, the waiters were on the ball, keeping EVERYONE happy and my old waiter from 8 yrs ago recognised me I was soooo happy. I will never ever return to Sahara beach but will definitely return to Tunisia just to a different hotel.
Came here for a week with my family booked through thomas cook! We all loved every second here! What a beautiful place to come visit. The staff were so lovely and friendly and the rooms were really nice! We did some awesome trips! Booked with 'Ali Baba' through the hotel, you'll see him in the corridor on the way to the restaurant, they weren't just trips they were memories he gave us that will last a lifetime! We did Quad biking and Boat trip. They were amazing and very cheap too! We were looked after the whole time and we took some amazing pictures and videos, kids haven't stopped talking about it! 'Asda Price' haha! Thanks Sahara beach Aquapark Resort for an amazing holiday! We hope to come back again soon :)
Firstly this is one of the best 3 star hotels I have stayed at, & probably better than a couple of 4 star ones I’ve used.on arrival whilst waiting to book in we were brought drinks & received a very warm welcome, cases were taken to our rooms & this sort of attention continued throughout our 2 week stay. The complex is huge & plenty of sun beds available around all the amazingly clean & beautiful pools, beach is lovely & everything is scrupulously clean including the toilets around the pool & beach which is a rarity. Lots of activities going on around pool during the day & they always asked if we wanted to join in, but weren’t pushy if you just wanted to relax on sunned.. I would have given 5 stars if the food was a little more varied but having said that I never went hungry & it can’t be easy to cater for so many different nationalities.. If you’re a smoker like me make sure yo take enough tobacco & papers etc because there’s no English tobacco at hotel which is why I took a 30 min bus ride to sousse. Also needed to get cash because not having been to Tunisia before I didn’t know you can only get dinars by exchanging hard cash ie no cards. Hope this short review helps anybody thinking of going here because unless you are an extra fussy person you will not be disappointed. In fact my wife is looking at their prices for late September / October with a view to going back !
Great hotel, great location Plenty of amenities, which are included in the price. Football, archery, crazy golf, etc. Face painting isn't (not an issue) they were amazing. My son hanged his head coming down the pink kids slide, pure accident no one fault. Amir the life guard was amazing carried ollie to the dr who stitched his head in quick time. No hassle at all. Amir asked about ollie daily, top guy. Dr did an awesome job 10 / 10 The animation team are truly amazing, hard working during the day then the night acts too, nothing was too much trouble for them. Stupidly addictive songs for the kids and also happy to take a picture. Brillaint experience and seeing everyone who worked there proud of where they are from, happily go back there. Amazing time thank you to everyone
Had a week for May half term with family. Room was clean an maintained daily although the maids were tight with the towels. Staff were nice but the cooks were quite rude and abrupt, probably due to their limited English. Food was nice and plentiful. Homemade chips were delicious. Sadly the area the hotel is in is deserted and derelict. We had a horse ride along the beach, which was strewn with little and trash, and the burnt out hotels all along the front did not make you feel safe and relaxed. Every drink from the bar is served in plastic disposable glasses which are not reused or recycled which we found upsetting. Unfortunately the weather was also poor and I know that the hotel is not responsible for that but sadly because everything else wasn’t upto scratch we came home feeling that Tunisia is not a country we will be visiting again. PS: we did NOT see signs of any significant security on the beach front; had another gunman shown up were were NOT WELL PROTECTED in my opinion.
Just home from a 2 week stay at this hotel. The hotel rooms have been upgraded for Thomas Cook guests which was a lovely upgrade. However, the hotel feels more corporate based focusing on reducing business costs than being the luxury that it once was 4 years ago when we last visited. We always raved about the amazing chooses of food at this hotel to friends and family but this year was disappointing. Not much variety and constant repetition of menu. Also the pool side slush strawberry daiquiris and pina coladas no longer exist which was something we were looking forward to! At 30 degree heat plus, this is something the hotel should bring back. Now on to the people.... THE PEOPLE ARE THE REASON WE KEEP RETURNING. Everyone from cleaners to waiters to the workers in the shop, everyone does all they can to make your stay enjoyable and will literally bend over backwards to help. Our lovely female rep ilma (apologies if this is not correct spelling) checked in on us every time we passed her desk. She wasn’t pushy about us going on trips and truly wanted to make sure that as a representative of Thomas cook she was providing the top quality service expected. I would be disappointed if she wasn’t the rep on my next visit. On your visit you must take a visit to the jewellery shop. The hand made rings are especially beautiful which come with a life time guarantee. My mum has her ring she purchased 4 years ago cleaned and fixed FREE OF CHARGE. She also asked kalid and noorie to make her a custom ring which they designed and made in 2 days!! It’s beautiful might I add. Definitely pop in as they are VERY FRIENDLY AND PROVIDE AN AMAZING SERVICE. It’s nice to see people at their work ALWAYS SMILING. Now on to the bags. Go and visit Rodney and Dell Boy (as they are known). THE FUNNIEST BAG SELLERS IVE MET. Haggling always ends in a bit of laughter. I left with 3 bags so it’s working for them! The bags are of a great quality and they let me change a purse mid stay as I changed my mind and wanted a different one. YOU DONT GET THAT SERVICE BACK HOME! Honestly they were super friendly and really want you to be happy with your purchase. I’ll be back for more bags soon! Look out for Z the waiter on your visit. Your glass will never be empty and he was always working the long hours with a smile on his face. If I had to work 6 days a week I don’t think I could smile the way he and the other workers do! All in all the service from the staff was Amazing and it’s the staff which are the reason I will be back for my 5th visit. Although the hotel standards have dropped in terms food and beverage choices it’s the welcoming and friendly service from the staff that make the hotel what it is! See you soon!
Fantastic complex ! I visited once last year & my daughter visited twice & there was never any doubt in our minds about visiting again. Hotel is clean & tidy, great staff, nothing is too much trouble...as for the animation team, you could not ask for more, they are amazing in every way & no holiday to Sahara Beach would be the same without them. So many activities for all ages & great entertainment in the evenings, the animation team work so hard & do such a great job. Will be back again later this year & again next year !! Cannot stress how good it is & would highly recommend to everyone!
We stayed for 1 week 16th to 23rd June. As others have said the hotel itself is lovely, clean with very hard working staff. I think the star rating is probably due to the food and drink. Rooms... Ours was interconnecting, kids in one us in the other. We were in block 1 which has been renovated for Thomas Cook customers, the maids did great job the room was clean and the bathrooms modern. We never turned on the TV and sadly air con only worked in the kids room despite being reported which was a pain on the last few nights of very high temp. Lots of people have commented on the shower head not being attached however I found if you just propped it in place it did the job without having to hold it. The rooms are getting a bit tatty now, not dirty just where people on holiday haven't looked after them. Pools.... Brilliant. Main animation pool was where all the action and games were at but was quite deep most of the pool couldn't touch bottom so we tended to use the high pool up at the Telegraph snack bar which was ideal with a little one. The 3rd pool was also large and adults could stand up but children not. Pool areas were super clean and we never struggled to find sunbeds and mattresses by just giving the guys working there a few dinar they even dragged heavy umbrellas for us. 2-3 dinar is less than a pound and worth it not to have to get up at 7am. Aqua Park is great with slides and areas for all ages... We have a 7 and a 16 year old. Lifeguards love their whistles there though so take ur headphones. Aqua Park open 10 - 12 then 2-5 so ideal to get a sunbed if you head for it opening. No pool there though just the slides. Entertainment.... We went every night to the outdoor entertainment area and the staff put loads of effort into their shows. Some were better than others... Greatest Showman was fabulous but they kept us entertained in the evening and the little one (and even the big one) enjoyed the party dances. We found heading over for 8/8.15 was fine to get a seat after tea. Our eldest joined on with some day time sports and games but we tended to stay in the quieter pools. I dud find the animation team weren't in your face like in other hotels and happy just to let you be if you don't want to join in. They were all very pleasant even if you didn't join in. Food.... Snack bars were great. The beach snack bar makes fresh burgers and kebab, pizza salad chips etc. Telegraph pool bar does paninis pizza hot dogs and fries. We ate there during the day rather than the restaurant. Creperie by the big pool is nice but pancakes better at breakfast however they do have a slush machine!! Restaurant..... We didn't visit the a la carte and found food in restaurant disappointing. Was very repetitive and not really to our taste although we def didn't starve. There was always pizza, salads, soups, bread and great puddings and each night were meat and fish dishes with rice just sometimes with odd sauces and flavourings. They guys in the restaurant all have their own 'area's' and are keen to have you in theirs. We did tip most nights only a few dinar and had the same table every night with fresh flowers our drinks waiting for us. Our server 'Jimmy' was great and friendly and later in the week wasn't there. It was noticeable that then we didn't get the same service, no drinks or set table so for us we felt worth a small tip to have a bit more personalised service. Breakfast we enjoyed the fresh omelette and pancakes were lovely.... Use the Nutella on the salad bar rather than the choc sauce.... Its nicer. Drinks.... Biggest disappointment of the holiday. All drinks by pool and evening entertainment as others have said are served in plastic disposable cups... Throughout the week these, did get smaller (think the size at the dentist) and I wish I had taken my own as the bar staff seemed happy enough to fill bottles and kids flasks etc. The alcohol is very weak... They do have lots of spirits (very few cocktails which sadly all taste the same) I didn't feel like I had a drink all week apart from the wine with tea. The main pool bar we enjoyed going to in the evening for a quiet drink before tea and the main barman there always made us drinks and brought them to our table, was very nice and friendly with the children. If you want diet coke ask for coke zero which is in bottles behind bar as the coke light just tastes like flat full fat coke. Trips.... We booked a boat trip with the guys that are based in hotel but sell their trips by the pool. It was cheaper with them as we got a free child £20 adults and £10 children. Was only a half day they collect you by coach to take you to Sousse marina but the trip was great daft games on the pirate ship boat, nice bbq lunch included and we genuinely did see dolphins. Only a brief chance to swim in the sea which was freezing but we really enjoyed it. Beach.... Was beautiful really clear sea... Cold at first but soon warm and lovely white sand. We didn't try any water sports but they seemed cheap. The guys were even cleaning the ropes in the sea that's how good the hotel cleanliness was. Shops... The shopping centre in the hotel had all the usual snacks and tourist things needed and the staff were really helpful and pleasant. Souvenirs seemed really cheap... The kids struggled to spend their holiday money. Kids club.... Our little one is 7 and has always loved kids clubs on holiday however she went to Thomas Cook one on first day and refused to go back point blank. I think it has been really busy and a bit chaotic and she was put off by this. She did want to try the hotel run kid club when they were doing a pizza making activity but were told this was only for non English customers so couldn't go. Bugs.... Yes there were mosquitos and yes many people had bites. We came home bite free (ustally eaten alive) after wearing little wrist bands we bought on amazon for few pound all week and taking vitamin B1 for week before we went and during our stay. Apparently they don't like the smell.... Neither did we but one of the 2 worked! Yes there are flies but I never saw them on food or en masse and people panicked during day thinking wasps were around their sunloungers. These are harmless honey bees and if you drink coke zero they aren't interested. All in all we had a nice stay, the hotel was nice, the staff were lovely, the pools were brilliant, weather was fabulous although last 2 days was 42 degrees and bit hot but we wouldnt return as was disappointed with food and drinks and I just want a decent cocktail on holiday in a glass and to have a nice evening meal.
I am an 18 year old girl and with this being my first holiday abroad without my parents was very scary, however Sahara Beach hotel not only made me feel safe but their resort and staff also left with with amazing memories that will last forever. We arrived at the hotel at around 1:30am and we were in our room by 1:40am. The service the hotel provides are amazing. The animation team are an asset to the resort, all them constantly had a smile on their face and made it their mission to make sure you had a brilliant holiday. The food is good, generally a lot of variety and if you are fussy their is always pizza and chicken nuggets on the menu. One thing I would like to address is the restaurant which I think went by the name of 'Restaurant El Campo' or something along them lines lol. Be aware that if you want to eat in the restaurant you need to book well in advance (you can book at reception from 9 until 1pm). The only available date they had was our final night and the food menu was very poor. Something that I think needs a little work. It also confused me to how the restaurant never had anyone in it. The shops around the hotel are lovely and cheap, so don't be expecting Michael Khors and Superdry. We did get some lovely souvenirs for very cheap. The rooms are comfy and bright and the aircon worked a treat on the hottest days which sometimes reached 38'c The highlight of my holiday was our lovely waiter Fahird. On our 3rd night we wondered into his area of main restaurant with no where to sit, he welcomed us with such a bright smile and sat us on a beautifully decorated table (pics below). He then throughout the night constantly made sure we always had a drink. Eve at breakfast he would get us specially made smoothies which you normally have to queue for. It was clear that he wasn't just doing this for tips and that he is genuinely just a lovely man. He needs major recognition! Overall we had an amazing holiday and didn't want to come home! If you're contemplating whether to book here or not, DO IT! The negative reviews are a load of rubbish!
We stayed here for 1 week and I have to say that I was very doubtful even after reading all the reviews on trip advisor that this hotel could be as good as it was for 3 stars. How wrong I was.We arrived and to be honest the reception area is a bit dated as are other areas of the hotel but our rooms were clean and comfortable and we had an interconnecting room with our teenage kids so had plenty space and TVs in both rooms and also tea and coffee facilities. The grounds are lovely and really big so you can always get a sunbed somewhere .there are 3 pools,1 noisy and great for people wanting to join in activities, 1 which is lagoon like and huge so never felt full, and 1 quieter one .The beach is lovely except for people leaving their plastic cups and stuff to blow all over and in sea.The beach guys who sell her skis ,paragliding etc are good lads and prices are good. The best thing about this hotel is definitely the staff, the maid who cleaned our room was great the bar staff the pool guys and the animation team well they were just Brilliant. The shows were good they work so hard and we have stayed in 5 star hotels all over the world Egypt, Caribbean, Turkey etc and the shows were better here.I have to say the Thomas cook reps were fantastic they look after you so well.they will help you whatever you need. The food is pretty standard and you wont go hungry and there is plenty room to accommodate everyone. We didn't rate the a la carte but most people did I just think we got a dud meal but hey we could go in buffet so not a problem. Tipping is not necessary but we did tip a couple of English pounds each day to waiters, pool guys and maid...they get very poor wages and work so hard so I dont begrudge them and they are so thankful. Would I return....yes I would especially if the price was as good as we got it for.
