Me and my partner have just spent a week here and had the most amazing time! The hotel is right on the beach with beautiful panoramic views and there is a lifeguard always on duty who is an amazing person. If the sea is not for you then there is a lovely pool with a bar right next to it. The staff absolutely bend over backwards to make you happy they are so friendly and helpful it's hard to believe. The food is top notch with buffet style or al e cart so there is always loads to choose from they do themes and the chef also cooks outside I never had s bad meal and I'm usually quite fussy. Throughout the day the hotel puts on s mini bus to sorrento which is free up until 9pm and then it's only a Euro. The place is clean and tidy with staff buzzing about all day in the bars the beer is peroni and it actually is peroni! The spirits are all top brands and again this is the real thing not just refilling bottles with cheap stuff. We went all inclusive which I recommend as buying drinks would make for a really expensive holiday. This is our first time in Italy and it was such a culture shock but in the best way possible we were used to Spain with souvenir shops all over and groups on English falling around drunk there was none of this just like minded chilled out people having a great sophisticated time. To finish the hotel is fantastic the staff are fantastic and the facilities were second to none we will be going back again and again for years to come BEAUTIFUL!!!!
this was our second visit and loved it..and the improvements that have been made. Loved the choice of buffet and ala cart as 2yrs ago it was either ala cart or buffet, and loved the fact the food was inside making more outside seating, plus the pizza oven with home made pizza...wow! also loved the new fresh coffee station, shame it was only put in towards the last few days of our second week. Food was great, the only downside was ice-cream wasn't always available as there wasn't always someone in the bar to serve it, would have been better in the pool bar. We celebrated our 21st anniversary there and had a brilliant time. Staff were all brilliant but have to make a special mention to giulio, giuseppe and of course luca(who made my daughters day by recognising her from 2 yrs ago) who made us feel welcome everytime we walked in. I read some of the other reviews about the drinks and had to agree that no one could make a good pina colada, but have to say a special thanks to pasquale and the brilliant giovanna for making an excellent malibu and pineapple and of course lemoncello and always had a smile when i asked for no ice. But the real star of our holiday was francesco the life guard, he was brilliant, not letting the people who, in other hotels put there sunbeds down at the crack of dawn and then go for breakfast, no not him, he told everyone to cue and if he found someone putting down there towels he removed them...brilliant. there were plenty of sunbeds anyway. He was happy to move a sunbed, help with the umberellas and even helped me carry some of my drinks. We had 2 red flag days and he wouldn't allow anyone going in, no matter how much we thought it would be o.k, he was brilliant, and totally right as within seconds a huge wave came up and washed up past the sun loungers...I read some of the bad reviews and was amazed, were we in a different hotel??? yes it has a few paint chips, but so what, i'm looking at the brilliant view not the outside paintwork..yes no one could make a pina colada so i just went for something else..the staff are brilliant, food so good i put on about a stone in weight, and the entertainment is a little off but hey it's a hotel in italy not sydney operah house...will definately be coming back love this hotel and the staff...shrug of the negative reviews the hare family think you're great.xx
This hotel wasn't what we originally booked, but how happy we were to have a hotel on the beach, amazing views, pleasant staff, nice food, light evening entertainment and a great friendly rep..Shelly. On arrival first impression was charming 50`s style hotel, our room clean and stepping onto our little balcony were the spectacular views of the ocean and Vesuvius in the distance, to the left the coastline to Sorrento. The restaurant pleasing plenty of choice, helpful staff always with a smile on their faces. Loved the Pizza made on the terrace, excellent chefs. After dinner we took a little walk up into Meta, the views from the top are worth every penny. As the beach is pebbles we bought some surf beach shoes and were in the sea a lot, hotel towels to take on the beach, rubbing shoulders with the locals, you knew you were in Italy. We loved our trip to Naples, excellent guide Vanessa. Also Amalfi, Positano and Ravello....sure was an experience, as was the driver. We loved Ravello bought lots of souvenir's. The wine delightful, at meal times you get a bottle, (red) our choice. We loved our (Lovers massage) 50euros side by side then into the spa, Roman theme, this is situated at the base of the hotel. The only thing we can fault is if the food was a little bit warmer. We will definitely return.
Stayed here for a week from the end of July, it was the most amazing holiday, I would go back tomorrow. The hotel was lovely, had a very 1950s Italian vibe, extremely clean and the food and staff were wonderful. What we loved was the relaxed feel about everything, even dining all inclusive, there wasn't the usual mad rush for a better table or queuing for food, easy come and go inside and out, the waiters showed us to a table of our choice, peroni and prosecco (by the bottle) was constant and the food was just lovely, and a great choice. Our room was 428, 4th floor, directly overlooking Capri. The view was great, we saw the beach in both directions including all the way across to the main Sorrento. The room had plenty of space and was very comfortable, a large safe in the wardrobe and plenty of storage space. The lido is great for a relaxing un-interrupted bit of sun time but you have to book with reception. There is also a sundeck which is comfortable. Both areas have a drinks cooler and the lido also has its own food counter. The free shuttle bus nine times a day to Sorrento is great, but you have to book with reception. Unfortunately we couldn't get on the 9am bus and we needed to be in Sorrento to get the 10.30am ferry to Amalfi, although we waited for the bus up the road (only a couple of euros), which ran every 20 minutes, we didn't want to chance it. We paid 35 euros for a taxi the hotel organised but this is a good price, and the firm they use is a husband and wife couple and the taxi was a spotless air conditioned Mercedes, so we didn't mind at all, it was a very nice trip into Sorrento! We visited Capri and Amalfi on our own by boat from Sorrento port. We went with Thomas Cook to Pompeii which was well worth it because you definitely need a tour guide to tell you all about it. Sorrento is full of leather good shops, not all expensive, and every other shop sells numerous Limoncello products. When the bus drops you off you walk down the steps and down the road to the main square, there are 130 steps down to the port and along a gentle road, but there is a life in the rocks towards the left of where the port is, just ask someone, everyone is helpful. Capri is very expensive but the Marina Grande is lovely too, you must walk round the shops though, the views are great, use the cliff railway to get up there, just 2 euros each one way, nothing at all. The town of Meta where the hotel is very nice, not chic, but authentic Italian, a bit of a trek up the hill but a nice walk for a visit, there is also a small harbour area nearby with beach space, a lot taken by locals, but lots of eateries too, worth a visit and walk around. You can visit both Positano and Amalfi or just one or the other. You can go on the many organised trips but if you do it yourself, just remember that when you see a trip price at the port, its one-way! Many people are just using the boats and ferries as transport to get from A to B, not necessarily tourist trips. Overall, BOOK this holiday, its great, location is beautiful and The Alimuri is fantastic. Thank you Alimuri for a lovely holiday.
Super hotel for anyone without small children. Anniversaries- etc. Or quiet chill either before kids or after they have flown away - food and staff are the best we have had so far(and been to quite a Few). Access to Sorrento by free shuttle, trips at fair price, and u can chill once you had enough. Must do!
What a fabulous hotel - the staff are so friendly and attentive with nothing being too much trouble. We had a sea facing twin room with balcony and the most incredible views. Pasquale at The Lido looked after us well when we had our sun bathing days and the free shuttle bus into Sorrento was great! The buffet had a large and plentiful selection of food and the Chefs were more than happy to cook you a particular dish if you asked. There was a large selection of drinks including Peroni and wine and prosecco was given by the bottle. Normally we would be sad to leave but we're not as we have already booked for next year! Thank you for making our holiday just the best see you next August! Tips - * Bring an iron as we were informed there isn't one in the hotel * Book the shuttle bus at reception into Sorrento - it's definately worth it and a taxi would be about €50 one way we were told so the fact it's free is amazing * Book into The Lido at reception - it's a fabulous spot for sun bathing, with access to the beach and food and drink served there too
Had a relaxing week end of July took our 2 boys ages 15 and 10, and while there isn't any entertainment for there ages group they didn't need it. Played table tennis and found a table football so they were happy. Pool was smal, but plenty big enough when the beach in only a few meters away. It's pebbles not sand but brushes off easier than sand, you will need beach shoes!!! We didn't struddle with sun beds but we discovered the Lido and if you book with reception they have the number of beds waiting for you with towels, even if you don't go down until just before lunch. Plenty of choice of food and could have al a carte everyday although we found it lacking something, but the pizza's couldn't be faulted. We stayed in a family room and had a four poster bed which was lovely and a sliding door through to 2 single beds. Shuttle bus was great but book then night before. Enjoyed our stay and would go back.
The hotel has a very relaxed feel, alongside traditional Italian decor, wonderful service and is in a fabulous location. All the staff are well trained and work hard as a team, with excellent manners and nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was very good with some lovely 'a la carte' choices every day. Sunbeds were always available throughout our stay and again the staff supervising these were excellent (we only used the beach and decking area). Beautiful sea views and wonderful sunsets. We will definitely return and would highly recommend.
Having tried a few other italian hotels since we stayed at the Mar last year, we can honestly say it truly deserves its excellence rating. As somewhere to rest, read and relax, it really can't be beaten and its remoteness from others makes it truly unique; you are not tempted to wander all over looking for better food or night life, and in reality you don't need to. Booked last night and already looking forwards to May 2018
Just stayed here for a week in late July. Our first impressions were that it was in a nice location with direct access to a pebble beach. Unfortunately we were allocated room 438 which was a little small and in need of redecoration but as we were only there a week, we decided it would be ok. One upside was that it was on the very end and therefore more private and had patio doors that opened out fully(where other rooms had sliding) which brought the beautiful view into the room. The food and the staff were very good and although the entertainment was a little lame it was all very relaxing. Being a relatively small hotel and having alot of locals using the beach it was very laid back and easy to make friends. The hotel laid on free shuttles to Sorento and other trips were bookable in the hotel with ur rep or by the hotel itself. As we went with Jet2 there was a free walking tour of Sorento every Sunday to allow you to get your bearings which i would highly recommend and also a mini bus trip to Almafi via Positano is a must do @ 65 euro each but you wont be dissapointed especially if you take up the extra of the boat trip whilst in Almafi...just brill! If you do choose to go i'm sure it will be a holiday to remember...will be going back soon!
