Good hotel to stay. We were only one night because we wanted to rest before our trip to Balchik - Kavarna as it's a long way to drive. It was clean, there were free toiletries and the breakfast was ok. The only thing that we didn't know before booking it was that we have to pay the parking in the front of the hotel. It cost 18 leva or approximately 9 € for one day.
I turned up 55 mins early for book in and was turned away, on return I had to wait 45 mins in a queue, the room was clean and although the finish was very poor, the staff need to learn how to smile and learn manners, the location in the city was perfect, so all the minuses in my review are overpowered by this, if you only want to sleep in this accommodation it is perfectly located. Food and drinks are very cheap locally.
I don't expect too much from really cheap budget hotels but this one still disappointed. I need a cheap hotel for the night before flying out in the morning so i chose this one. The receptionist during check in was lovely but the rest of staff I encountered were not. I was surprised that they had room service. It wasn't a fancy menu, mostly drinks and sandwiches, but I was tired and hungry so I tried placing an order. The person who picked up answered in Bulgarian. I asked her nicely if she spoke English to which her response was to immediately hang up on me. I tried calling again a little later but the call went unanswered. There was a Chinese food restaurant off the lobby and a grocery store a few doors down from the hotel so i had a lot of access to food but I was really hoping to just relax before a long series of flights home. I completely understand that not all staff have good English skills but I was still appalled at the rudeness. The receptionist the next day was almost as gruff and rude. The room itself was not very clean. I thought the bathroom was surprising clean looking until I noticed the shower curtain so much mood on the bottom that it turned my stomach. The TV didn't not work nor did the mini fridge. You need to use a key to get in your room and to lock it when in your room. I had to fight with the lock any time I came or went. there were a lot of renovations happening during my stay which was a little optimistic that the rooms might improve for others in the future but it made for a lot of noise especially in the morning when I was trying to sleep. There were also lots of tools and equipment that had to be navigated around in the hallways. I took the stairs down to what I assumed would be the lobby but it lead straight to the outside with the lobby on one side and a Chinese food restaurant on the other. I didn't like that anyone could walk in off the street and go right upstairs to the rooms. The only real positives about this place is that it was dirt cheap when I needed a really cheap place to stay for the night, wifi worked and it was very close to everything in the city
Th hotel is in renovation; and i really afraid that some accident will happen; there are no upstairs ! you can access to other floor only by lift (problem of security); The personel are really not nice at all ; It was on the most worst hotel that i never see ! i really not avise no person to stay there! thera are very nice and beautiful hotel in sofia! so don't go there! Only the location of the hotel is parfect , all other point are horrible
The location of the hotel is absolutely perfect. But it was built in 1935 and aspects of it seem just as old. The reception / lobby area is the most disappointing. Gloomy is the kindest word I can think of. The rooms are quite outdated too. Having said that, there seems to be plenty of renovation and painting work underway.
The hotel is practically located in the middle of Sofia. Not much else positive to say about it, but nothing negative either. I needed a place to stay for one night, and this hotel was perfect for my need.
What is important to understand from the beginning - Is that this hotel is in a state of "upgrading" - some room have been upgraded and others have not been and are referred to as "budget rooms" - It is very misguiding of reviewers to pay for a budget room and expect the quality of an upgraded room - and end up in over indulgent criticism of this hotel. I was welcomed at the hotel reception by a well mannered, English speaking man who was very helpful - My room was clean and quiet despite overlooking a busy street - it had a mini bar, shower, toilet, wifi, tv etc - and was warm and comfortable - I didn't try the bar or restaurant as I never do when traveling abroad .The hotel is close - on foot - to every & anything that one would want to see and visit in Sofia - Churches, parks, pubs, restaurants, museums etc within a short distance - The female staff on reception need to be retrained rapidly on human interaction - they acted like zombies and need a good boot up the behind - it requires little to say, hello, goodnight, and thanks - All in in all a great place and at the right price in the right place.
List could be endless, but here are the major points : - room smelled like cigs, - bathroom didn't look like the pics displayed on their page (no bathtub), - main light was not working, - we found hair, an old tissue, FOOD (cf. pic) under the bed (not to mention the huge amount of dust of course), - they were obviously renewing our floor (2nd one, room 208), and left all the old furniture & supplies in front of our door. And of course after spending half an hour at the reception asking to talk to the manager, i've been told she's not working (and not picking up the phone).
So i looked up this hotel on line on another booking site and booked a few days stay, on arrival felt that the hotel was not going to live up to its advert, stupidly paid in full before seeing the room and this was a mistake, when i reached my room it was honestly like a scene from a hostel, the view was of a broken building with the smell of musk in the air, bed sheets had hokes in and the 80s tv sort of worked, bathroom was clean but not inviting, sadly did not unpack a returned to reception and asked to cancel, after a few questions the helpful girl did fully refund us and even ordered us a taxi, would say if you stay here you need to see the rooms first.
My husband and I were starting and ending our honeymoon through Europe in Sofia. This hotel provided great customer service when we found our tv did not work (they gave us a completely new room); they were quick to call a taxi for us whenever we needed and most of the staff were very friendly. The location is unbeatable with popular sites within walking distance. One negative was that our room was not ready both times we arrived, well after they should have been which briefly delayed our tourism of the city. We'll definitely be staying here next time we visit!
