Rooms are quite comfortable and breakfast is really nice. Continental Buffett breakfast was quite alright. Loved the scrambled eggs and sausages. The staff was friendly & helpful. The location was good a 10 minute walk to get to the centre, theres a metro stop at Lions Bridge nearby that takes you straight to the centre.
We booked this hotel through Booking.com and got B&B plus a taxi pick up from the airport on arrival. The room was very large and well equipped, hairdryer, small fridge and plenty of surfaces for cases and bags. The beds and pillows were very comfortable and there was lots of towels. The water pressure meant the deep bath filled quickly and the shower was good. The room had a wall of windows which gave a view of the mountains and across the city. (room 607) You can ask for toweling robes from reception. The room was cleaned daily. Breakfast was plentiful with fresh, warm croissants and the Bulgarian version of a "full English". A taxi into the centre of Sofia costs £1.50 so we didn't use the trams though the hotel is on number 18 route. All the reception staff spoke great English and Dianna was particularly helpful to us, she booked restaurants for us and gave very useful advice about taxi costs/etc. We really enjoyed our stay and found this hotel gave us great value for our money and the staff helped make it a great stay.
We stayed here for 3 nights and was great value for money. As other reviews have said its not the most central but we found the public transport in Sofia was excellent. Tram 18 stopped just along from the hotel and was under 10 mins and ran very frequently with a board at stops telling you how many mins wait, tube was a few mins away and only one stop and ran every few mins. Travel is very cheap an all day travel pass (trams/tubes and bus) was 4 Lev or 1.60 per trip if you wanted to pay separately. A taxi home after hours was around 5 Lev if you ensured meter was on or agree price in advance. Anyway the hotel we were room 307 very spacious albeit quite dark due to the decor - fine for us, Hotel looks pretty modern and of a good standard and we enjoyed our stay. Pillows were rock hard but softer ones were brought to room with no problem. Friends were on 7th floor and also had a nice spacious room we had booked double deluxe rooms for reference. Breakfast had a very good selection to get you on your way in a large dining area with a choice of hot and cold options and a nice selection of fresh bread and rolls. One thing which was a negative (not enough to mark down) was when we enquired about a taxi transfer before arriving the hotel quoted a very high 30 euros one way, a local taxi to airport is under 15 lev (under 8 euros). When you arrive terminal 2 there is a taxi desk right in front of you where you can book and confirm price - I suggest use this method and save money stay away from hotel inflated transfer price. I would recommend this hotel and visit it again, we enjoy using local transport on city breaks as get to see so much more it would be a long walk to the centre.
Researching hotel rooms for families in Sofia showed us quite quickly that there were not too many options, so we were pleased to find the Budapest was very accommodating to families. We stayed here for three nights, four of us, in one of the corner rooms. As we were arriving late, we arranged for a taxi to pick us up at the airport and the journey took around 20 minutes. Despite our late arrival we were given a friendly welcome by the front desk and our keys were given to us very quickly. Our room was a good size, with the sofa bed already set up. The bathroom was not huge, but enough space for two people to be in there at the same time (just). The decor in the room was quite dark and didn't bother me, but MrsHBO prefers lighter hotel rooms, so this room didn't really do it for her. The beds were comfortable. Breakfast was included in the price and, on that basis, was very good indeed. There was plenty of choice and plenty of everything. It really set us up well on all three mornings. The hotel location is fine, but we found it to be a little too far from the city centre to be enjoyable, although there are plenty of taxis, trams and buses outside the door, with the Metro only a five minute walk away. On Sunday morning we found the street very quiet, but Monday and Tuesday the traffic noise was audible, quite possibly too much for a light sleeper. We weren't too aware of noise from within the hotel though, which was good. We were happy with our stay and thought for the price it was a very good deal. However, for a future trip to Sofia we would look to stay more centrally although, as mentioned previously, if you are a family of four on a budget, you may well find your options in the city centre limited.
The taxi driver, who brought me here from the airport, warned me that this were not the best area of town and that I should be careful. In fact I then never had an uncomfortable feeling here, be it day or night, when returning from restaurants. The railway station is in walking distance and also' Lavov Most' (Lion's Bridge) with its metro station. The hallways and the rooms, all with purple colors and heavy curtains are a bit dark, but otherwise well appointed. There is wall to wall carpeting and a small balcony just to stand. Excellent is the bathroom with enough storage space by the wash basin, also a strong shower with good mixing. The bed was okay, a bit hard for my taste the pillows. There was an empty fridge with a complimentary small bottle of water (I could buy more water at the bar by the reception). It had tea and coffee making facilities with some nice extra biscuits. On TV I could watch BBC news. Breakfast starts at 7am, which I liked, since then I was usually by myself. There is a good buffet with fresh fruit, yoghurt, also cooked breakfast and a chance to try Bulgarian Lukanka sausage slices. The buffet is open till 11am. The receptionists wre among the most helpful I encountered in this country. Since there had been mosquitos in my room at night and since my electric mosquito liquid vaporizer, which I often take on travels, had been almost empty. I was told where and in which shop I could buy a new one. They also handed me out a city map. WiFi connection in the room was mostly good. No password is needed.
This hotel is really great. Rooms are spacious, very clean, modern, beds are comfortable, good bathroom, good breakfast buffet. The staff is very professional and kind. We chose the hotel for the proximity of the train station. We arrived and left Sofia by train. We were really surprised that this hotel was of such a high quality. The city centre is not so close by; as you can read in other reviews. But there is a tram stop nearby. As public transport is so well organised and not expensive this is the solution. The only inconvenience was the street noise; even during the night. But when I come back to Sofia I definitely stay there again.
We stayed in a junior suite for 2 nights. The reception staff were helpful and pleasant and the rooms very clean. The breakfast, though basic, offered a good choice for all tastes. Good location - within walking distance of most of the city sights. Parking is also available if you are arriving by car. We would definitely stay there again and recommend it to others.
Quite a nice hotel in a fairly central location. The food was good, particularly the breakfast, and most of the staff were very nice. The wifi was surprisingly good. When we stayed a second time we were given a large room with three single beds, which were very comfortable and a very powerful shower. Unfortunately we had no balcony though, which would have been nice.
It was an ok hotel. The room is a normal size, and there is a small balcony. It has two single beds in it. The blankets are way too small for me. I wish they would sew up the two blankets together. The breakfast was also just ok. Wi-Fi was very flaky. It would work fine for a couple of minutes, and then it would disconnect. Also, location is not very central. It's about 15 walk to the center. The neighborhood is also not the best as you can see in the pictures. And the last thing, they charged me 1 euro tax for each night that I stayed there. ????
I stayed at the Budapest Hotel for one night each at the beginning and end of my Explore Worldwide tour of Macedonia-Northern Greece tour. The hotel staff very friendly and helpful. The rooms are good and the hotel is an easy 15 minute walk to the center attractions of Sophia.
