We were bought an overnight stay at this hotel as an Anniversary present but decided to extend it to two days so we could spend a day in York. Initially we were puzzled why we had been allocated a disabled room as we were not disabled. The room was comfortable but was very warm and we had difficulty in turning the heating off but managed it eventually. On the first night we had our evening meal at the Hotel and it was excellent. Breakfasts were also fine. I haven't marked my review as excellent for three reasons: For the expected standard of this Hotel, there were two minor housekeeping items which were not attended to on the second day we were there. At breakfast time on our day of departure, the Coffee/Tea machine was not working and when we realised there was a problem, we asked for our drinks. As the problem had clearly been there well before we had our breakfast, we should have been asked what we required in drinks. Finally, in designing bathrooms, it is wrong to put a low level shelf above the sink. You simply bang your head on it when washing.
We had a one night stay here which was the last of 10 days exploring Yorkshire. Having had 3 excellent B&Bs previously during that time this is the only one I will not return to. I was checked in and out by a receptionist who was not welcoming, a smile at least would have been nice. A man who really seemed to find guests an inconvenience. The room was clean and the enormous bed was very comfortable. Despite the proximity to the A19 it was also very quiet. There was a scant hospitality tray - one teabag plus milk and coffee sachets. There was only one bath towel and one hand towel for 2 people which I thought was a poor show considering the price. We ate dinner in the restaurant which was fine and the staff serving were very pleasant. Breakfast was a complete and utter disappointment especially given the outrageous price. The fruit was melon which had not been properly prepared and still had rind on it. The only eggs were fried and dried out which I found inexcusable at 8. 15 a.m. The bacon was not crisp and frankly I wished we had not ordered the breakfast in advance as we could have eaten similar at a motorway service station or supermarket for less money. A huge disappointment frankly and I would advise others to seek out one of the excellent B&Bs available in York or indeed one of the budget hotels because at least you know what to expect.
I've stayed in other Mercure Hotels in Europe and I was deeply impressed with the varieties and quality of the breakfast, so my expectation was quite high. The hotel has a very nice garden, very good first impression. Front office staff not very friendly, just doing her job and there was no smile on her face. Room quite dated which has nothing wrong as long as it is clean. But there was problem with the drainage which was terrible when we only found out at the mid night when we took shower. As I said earlier, my expection for a Mercure standard breakfast is quite high, the breakfast served was quite disappointing, compared with the breakfast we had at Hilton Graden Inn Heathrow, it is not even half as good. Improvement on the breakfast is necessary. Having said above, the location of the hotel is very good!
We stayed here for two nights and really enjoyed it. Lovely clean room, with a huge bed which was very comfy. The bathroom was very clean, all though a little dated with worn gold taps, but everything worked. The hotel was clean throughout and had a very relaxing atmosphere. We had room service on our first night with a nice selection and it arrived in good time and was piping hot and cooked superbly. Breakfast was good with a help yourself style carvery including full english, cereals, pastries, fruit, juices, hot drinks. Everything was kept topped up nicely. All the staff we came into contact with were very friendly and helpful. The hotel has good access to the centre of York, with a park and ride just a few minutes away which was great for our sightseeing plans. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel.
We're very lucky to be upgraded to a suite, which was fabulous. Three rooms, lounge, bedroom and bathroom. The only problem we had was the hot water was a little hit and miss! Great hotel, a little tired in places perhaps. The restaurant was good and the service was great, despite two coaches being in!
We stayed here a couple of days ago and we were very impressed with the cleanliness of the rooms (we did the usual four in a bed checks) as you do and could not find fault with the cleaners work so well done to them they don't always get a mention. The bed was absolutely perfect so we slept very well . The furniture was a bit dated (Edwardian style) but that is not so important as being clean and having a great sleep is far more so . We were only five minutes from the York park and ride and the journey only takes 10 minutes . We had an evening meal in our room on our first night , nothing fancy just a simple meal but it was perfectly cooked and certainly not overpriced , very enjoyable . The breakfast in the morning is obviously the typical full English which I like but there was plenty of alternatives available like fresh fruit, dried fruits, cereals ,yoghurts, croissants, pastries etc. Altogether a great stay in a hotel that I would easily recommend to anyone
Great room and excellent old historical building in vast grounds. Park and ride into York only a 10 minute walk, which is cheap and Very handy and saves the parking fees in town. Breakfast was disappointing however.
We both had a very enjoyable two-night stay courtesy of our Son's Christmas gift. The hotel is in a good position to venture into York with a bus stop directly outside the Hotel, or the park and ride a few hundred yards down the road. Rooms very clean and tastefully decorated. We ate out in York on both evenings, but the breakfast was excellent.
I got married here in July and what can I say amazing day. Anna thanks so much for your help and also Martin on the day, the food was on spot and I would recommend to any couples getting married. I stayed night before with my bridesmaids and daughter and what can I say the room what we was in big and comfortable. Breakfast was lush. Bridal room was amazing and again very comfortable. Thanks again to you all please thank all staff Mr and Mrs Hall
Stayed in room 421 very spacious, Meals very good. Only bad point was the golfing party at the restaurant friday, who made 16 sound like 160, and managed to spoil the evening meal. Would def. stay again and again
