Room was ok - we got a room with 1 Queen with 1 Single. We requested for a balcony so we got a corner room on the 4th floor with a balcony. Room has a small dresser but too small for 3 people in the room, the dresser also has the coffee/tea facilities. They still have extra space in the room so it would be good if they add a separate small table/stand for the coffee/tea facilities as well as the water bottle/glasses. They don't have a shower curtain so expect a messy bathroom after shower. They only provide bath towels, so bring your own face and hand towels. There is no separate hand soap - they do have hair & body lotion/shampoo which is a dispenser by the shower tub and reachable by hand when you wash your hands at the sink. Staff are nice, they try to extend that good service but does not seem genuine though.
I will begin by acknowledging the positive points of this property. It is located very close to two different metro stops as well as the bus stop. The daytime desk clerk, and I regret not recording his name, was very courteous, friendly, and helpful. He allowed me to check in two hours early. Overall, however, I was terribly disappointed with this hotel. The building is an attractive art deco style construction, however once you’re inside things go downhill fast. First off, the entire hotel is fitted with opaque green windows that cannot be seen through and cannot be opened. It gives one the feeling of being in prison. Yet astonishingly, the hotel charges a premium for rooms that have windows! The furniture in the room is also decrepit. As you can see in the attached photos, some surfaces of furniture have come off and not been repaired. The bathroom shower simple sprays into the main bathroom area. There is no separate stall or tub. The shower head also leaked, meaning that there was some water on the bathroom floor at all times. Impossible to use the bathroom without taking one's socks off and then having to dry off when leaving. The main problem, however, is cleanliness. The lack of cleanliness of the rooms here is simply unacceptable. There was a great deal of hair on the floor of my hotel room, on the floor of the bathroom, and even some hair in the sheets. I complained to the staff about this, and they sent someone to "clean" the room again. However, all that meant was sweeping and changing the sheets. I don’t think this hotel even owns a vacuum. Ants were crawling along the floor next to the wall and on the bedside table. What is the hotel to do about this? It would be very difficult to spray for bugs when you cannot air out the room given that the windows do not open! The staff offered to switch me to another room, but said that it was the smaller and noisier room (presumably on the main floor with traffic zooming by). If it were not 22:00 when I was dealing with this issue, I would have insisted on a refund and found another place to sleep. But because of the hour and being so tired from travel, I decided to bear it. I had another two nights booked at this hotel later on my trip - obviously I cancelled as I would never stay here again nor recommend that anyone else do so.
Pros: - Near MRT Station (Rochor Station - Downtown Line), just 2 minutes walk - Next to Sim Lim Square - Walkable to Bugis & Little India area Cons: - Centralized Air Conditioner. Too windy for us and we can't do anything. Called the front desk, they also can't do anything. Very uncomfortable. - Hot water only runs for a few minutes, then goes warm and then cool - Front desk is helpful, but rarely smile. Never say hi to guest and just ignore when we say 'thank you'. - Room with view, but can't see anything (sealed windows with blurred glass). For almost SGD 100 per night, we expect a better services. Still consider this place when visit Singapore, just because it's very very close to MRT Station, not because of their services.
every time i visit singapore , i always choose to spend my holiday at Hotel 81 Rochor, although i had considered many other hotels in singapore, but none had better location with cheap price like Hotel 81 Rochor, perhaps because I like the food at Bugis Junction . the hotel is always clean with nice perfume, they clean the room, make the bed everyday. maybe one little thing they need to improve is to provide better shampoo and shower gel .
Hotel 81 Rochor is ok for night or two. It's cheap, clean, safe and location is good. Near by in Little India and Bugis are lor of good eateries. Bugis and Rochor MRT are only short walk away. Check in and out was very fast. Staff was nice and helpfully.
Nice location. Very near with rochor mrt station, across sim lim square. This hotel is located in little india area. So if you are moslem, you will easy to find halal foods, such as "Al Bismi". The owner is very nice to costumers. When you order indian food, make sure you are familiar with the taste.
We arrived into Singapore delayed at 8am and were given a complimentary late check out. We were there in transit so our windowless room was perfect to catch some sleep. Bed was comfortable and although the shower/toilet area was compact, it was still comfortable. In a central location to Bugis Chinatown and also little India. Would recommend this hotel highly, the staff were extremely friendly and assisted Us with maps and information to sites and the airport.
Booked a triple room. The location is 3-4min walk away from Rochor MRT. You can see the hotel board from the MRT exit. Room was larger than mentioned. And bit spacious comparing to other similar hotels. Bedroom and bathroom was veru clean. Check in and check out was smooth. SIM LIM food court is about 7min walk away.
In a pinch, go for it. It's not terrible, but not first rate and doesn't pretend to be. Rooms are clean and straight forward. Walls are thin and not sound proof so you may hear some "exciting" sounds from the other clientele if you're lucky!
Went in at 10.30pm. Waited for 20minutes to get checked in. I have to wait the reception to see cctv as there is a indian couple have some issue with their room. In the end, I was told to sit and wait for 20minutes. The lobby was very crowded with 10+ people. In the end, I was given the smallest room on that level with no window. It was only about 8m2, not even 14m2. Room: +cctv channels +fridge +3sockets +strong wifi +wifi was strong -Super tiny, 8m2, not 14m2 -fake window, you open up is wall -no movie or hbo channels -Ants on the table -Flies on the bed -Bed have some hair strains -no sound proof at all, next door bath, you can hear the water -air con super cold, despite 30 degree -check out at 11am, not 12noon -Door is use key, not automatic use card Bathroom: +Good water pressure +Toothpaste and toothbrush -Hot water not consistent -No floor towel -Toilet get wet -No place to put clothings -after bath, the bathroom was flooded Lobby: -Staff seems busy -waited 20min for checked in -only one lift Location: +cheers mart beside hotel +sheng siong supermarket 12min walk -no parking lot -cars can hardly stop there, only one lane place -walk to bugis , 15 mins Facilities -no swimming pool nor gym My personal review: Hotel Ground (Lobby, reception): 3.0 (no bellboy) Staff (Knowledge, helpful, friendly): 5.3 Room (Design layout, amenities, bed): 4.2 Bathroom (Water pressure, design): 5.4 Location (Surroundings, mall): 7.50 Facilities: 0.0 Price vs Quality: 5.0 Service: 5.0 Wifi: 8.0 Bonus: 5.0 Total: 48.40 / 100
