It was a great family holiday at Sihanouk Ville! Our family really enjoyed the atmosphere there. Beside the beach, Independence hotel was a great place to relax after the sea activities. We do recommend this hotel to everyone if you are there.

Great private beach resort in this tourist town. This is a place where you can really relax. Pricy by local standards, quite reasonable by SE Asia standards and a good value. We were here in March and gave this place a poor rating. Service was poor. Restaurant had few menu items actually available to order and the pool was awful green and closed for all 4 days of our stay. Looked like a place going down fast. But....... wanting it to be good and believing it could be, we tried again. To our delight service was improved, two pool areas now (both working) and waterfront pool is an infinity pool. I hope it stays this way although a little white paint would really improve things too. Seems to be enough staff standing around now a few could paint. Nice job though if raising your standards Independence Resort

Beach or pool? Our biggest decision during our weeks break. A lovely private beach, an amazing eternity pool, stunning views, friendly staff, a spacious room, everything we could possible want on our family holiday. A tranquil break away from the hustle and bustle of reality yet a short (reliable) shuttle bus trip to town. A special mention of going that extra mile must be made of the Guest Relations Officer, Liubov Ivanova, thank you.

This hotel just gets better. They have completed a new resort pool, it is beside the ocean and built over the rocks looking out to sea. It has a bar, slide, kids pool, plenty of seating, it is awesome. It is closer to their sea pavilion and villa area. They have also finished the refurbishment of their oceanside restaurant. I didnt have time to eat here but the location and outlook is stunning. With 2 levels for dining and from what I could see, a quality wine list and menu, this is a good option. Im heading back in January...

I feel compelled to balance some of the recent positive to raving reviews of this 4 star hotel. We arrived with our 2 kids aged 7 and 9 looking forward to some real relaxation in this resort like hotel. I fully agree that the hotel is beautifully situated and has great views whether you are in the restaurant, your hotel room or on the beach. However the place is dilapidated. Almost everything is in need of a good upgrade and real maintenance i will provide some examples below. Upon entering the hotel we were greeted by friendly staff. I did notice that most of them were not fluent in English and would depend on others for further translation. As we headed to our rooms we were greeted by a beautiful black and white picture of Jackie Kennedy who had visited the independence hotel in 1967. This must have been during the prime of the hotel and if I am mistaken it has been gradually going downhill ever since. Couple of examples we noted during our stay: General upkeep of the hotel: almost all structural parts of the buildings need a fresh layer of paint both inside and outside. Most fixtures (lamps/switches) look very dated and damaged It seems the pool and beachfront restaurant were recently updated and indeed look a lot better than the rest of the premises however there is simply too much to be done at this stage to escape the feeling of being in a run down hotel Rooms: Toilet roll holders loose and one fell down Bath moldy and stained Holes in the sheets Sink and bath semi clogged/choked Sink stopper not functioning An impressive 70,s feel remote control next to the bed for all the lights however the bed night light switch operated the bathroom :-) As I said the view from the room is a killer however they should clean the windows more often Food: The breakfast buffet seems extensive and the room is spacious and nicely set up. Again though one quickly sees the lack of touch for detail here. Items that run out are not quickly replaced and serving staff is not fluent in English The food during lunch and dinner was not of high standard it took us a while to find a dish that was really tasty. The pizzas for example were edible but very prefab. Now this might seem like a crushing review but it’s mostly meant as a realistic opinion on the current state of this potentially great hotel. I do want to point out that taking poor English aside staff was very friendly and always trying to help make our stay comfortable. Staff is not the issue here. Actually it’s the main current asset of the hotel. Management will need to make an investment in serious updates to ensure the 4 stars are deserved and not a means to lure unknowing guests to a dated hotel. Would to love to see this place get a well deserved touch up in all aspects mentioned above after which I would return to enjoy the beautiful scenery and people.

If faux traditional architecture and being surrounded by monkeys and bugs is your kind of fun, this is the place for you. Best view: the infinity pool. The seafood sampler at the restaurant, at USD22, wasn't bad for its sheer freshness. But you're here perpetually distanced from the city and popular beaches. Not that it's deserted, what with busloads of tourists from the eastern seaboard of China--you'll hear and see them at the breakfast bar. But those be nice big rooms and glass walk-in washrooms/showers. Anywhere else, and you'll be paying for a tuk tuk driver who expects a buck (or two) in tips.

Nice resort , excellent food, tremendous facilities. Very friendly staff. 10 min by #tuktuk from city center, costs 5usd. Private beach. Sea view pool. Lot of monkeys in the garden☺. Recommend to all travellers with higher budget.

It is true, the independence hotel is a bit isolated from the city. But do you really need to go out of the resort and into the city? Thats the question I have asked myself. The resort has everything, a very nice private beach, a really beautiful swimming pool, restaurants, fitness centre and a very friendly staff. I even had my private hot tub at my premier vila. Really good value for money. It was low season though and i received an upgrade as well. I especially liked the modern french design of the hotel buildings. Very stylish. In the end I have spent a lot of time more in the resort than i had expected i would. If you like to go to the city, which i did a few times the 3 days i was there, then you can use the free shuttle service of the Hotel. Conclusion: a beautiful resort with great facilities and nice staff. I can recommend it to you.

This place made me feel like James Bond... not because I am particularly suave..also there was not any measurable amount of international espionage going on...and there definitely was no gentlemen manservant trying to kill me with his flying guillotine hat, but because it just had the look and feel of a place that would have fit right in with one of those earlier movies. This place is old and is certainly a quite bit beyond its prime.. but for us, that was half the charm (also at this juncture it is important to note that at the time of our stay they were busy with massive upgrades and renovations and I fear that the hotel shall soon no longer have its 60's look and feel). The hotel sits somewhat higher up from its private beach (Cathryn is a beach nut... and she is absolutely besotted with the small beach) which is flanked by its ridiculously attractive, virtually on the water, semi open air restaurant (not only is the restaurant pretty, it turned out to serve some of or favourite dishes and it was rather affordable). We opted to stay in one of the hotel's private villas (as opposed to the main building - which i assume would offer better views due to its elevation) as it gave us a lot more privacy. The big benefit of Independence lies in its location relative to Sihanoukville. It is close enough (about a ten minute tuk-tuk ride) to nip into town to enjoy a meal or charter a boat trip, but far enough and private enough to escape the predominantly backpacker-esque look and feel of the town. So, if then you are looking to do some Sihanoukville exploring, but also want to lie on a quiet, gorgeous little beach away from the humdrum and want to stay in a nice comfy room, but still feel like you are adventuring through hot and humid South-East Asian jungle... in order to get to your breakfast table... then this will be the hotel for you.

This is most fantastic hotel, they upgrade the pool compare last year, i really love the pool, it perfect with ocean view. I really enjoy here rather than in Sokha, Sorry Sokha, Thanks for nice view, quiet and one of the pioneer hotel in sihanouk. I love this hotel. I will go back again
