We stayed at this hotel towards the end of a tour and whilst the hotel is luxurious it has one big fault and that is no sitting out area! I was led to believe it was because of the monkeys but surely in this day and age a solution to this can be found. It spoiled what was the end of a fabulous holiday and in all the other hotels where we stayed, this is the only one where we could not take advantage of the lovely climate.
Visited as part of a tour with Great Rail Journeys and found the comfort, ambience, food and service all second to none. The rooms were spotlessly clean and the restaurant (we ate buffet style) had an extensive and perfectly cooked range of dishes to suit all palates. Highly recommended.
We visited this lovely hotel as part of a group tour & stayed for 2 nights. Nice welcome, friendly staff, lovely room & great food, albeit the drinks were excessively expensive. Lovely indoor pool& gymnasium. This hotel is very elegant & reminiscent of the Raj.
I travelled to The Oberoi Cecil with my parents & two sisters to celebrate my father’s 60th birthday! We got back on 2nd October & I’ve been itching to write about the hotel! When you’re staying at a 5 star property you expect good service, however what we experienced surpasses every expectation you could ever have from the hospitality industry! Every member of their team was beyond exceptional! They made us feel so comfortable and so loved that we haven’t stopped discussing them ever since we got back... I would like to give a special mention to a few people we interacted with closely- Urvi Mahajan (front office manager), Padma, Deepak, Amitoj, Gaurav, Kashish (all at the restaurant) -words would do injustice to the service they extended to us! It would be unfair to not mention the man to heads them all, Mr. Amardeep Singh! He made every guest feel like family member with his warmth... At the end of our 4 days we could only wish we stayed for a few days more with these absolutely fantastic people! The only one thing we missed was getting a picture with them all as a memorabilia!😊😊
We could not manage to book accommodation but we made it a point to have lunch at least once. It was a enjoyable experience. The food was great but more than that it was the Oberoi hospitality... warm and ever friendly which sets them apart... missed staying there.
We stay here for 3 nights.Serivce is very good & well trained staff.Neat and Clean rooms and also bathrooms.delicious food , Swimming pool and free parking available.Once we got there everything was perfect. The hotel is also great for tourists.
MY REVIEW AS WRITTEN TO THE MD OF OBEROI HOTELS ...... Dear Mr Vikram Oberoi, I being an Army guy wanted to go out of hectic and chaotic life full of humidity and traffic snarls of Gurgaon to any place for peace and tranquality offcourse with serene place to live and have an experience of life time . Keeping this into view i started my search on net and ended up speaking to MR AJIT GANDHI , THE MANAGER at Sukh Vilas Chandigard. We had a long discussion on choice of place for a small vacation and let me tell you the way he spoke and the curtesy he extended on phone itself made me decide to visit OBEROI CECIL for spending a few days, This person did everything to help me reserve the accomodation at oberoi cecil though it is not his Hotel but it looked to me that its not the place where OBEROI is but its all one THATS IS OBEROI GROUP . Total comeradery and integration this speaks volumes and for us FAUJIS it matters . The interest shown by him and the enthusiasm exhibited is like a soldier to help anyone in need . I AM GOING TO RIGHT A LONG STORY MUST READ IT TO KNOW THAT WHAT AN ORGANISATION YOU ARE HEADING YOU ARE BLESSED . I am sure its because of the fine quality and commitment ingrained by you and your forefathers to reach this level of commitment. Anyways i booked my stay with oberoi cecil immediately after i was more then convinced by MR AJIT GANDHI . This Man is extremely good in Marketing OBEROI i supposed and he ultimately proved right after i have stayed in Shimla in Cecil . Mr Vikram immdiately after my booking i received a call from a lady named Ms KUNJAN and she checked on my various details time of arrival and conveynce i will be using . I felt nice , when she gave me a call on the day i was suppose to land up at hotel and informed me that i should inform her when i reach SHOGHE so that she can send an escort vehicle upto GARRAGE to escort us to the hotel and it went exactly like that . Believe you me its like clock work precision. Yes! we reached the hotel and i was AMASED to see AMARDEEP , THE GM , waiting for me and my wife along with KUNJAN and others they welcomed us right outside the Hotel , I felt like i was back in Army and commanding a unit where my 2nd in Command use to welcome me whenever i came back after visiting my troops ahead on border areas . What curtesy and what commitment never seen outside Army in civil . Hats of to AMARDEEP and his team. We were escorted by Ms KUNJAN to our room and she briefed us on our stay in Shimla and let me tell you she was so nice that we felt that we hv probably come to her house . She made us very comfortable . Now a word about the great dinning experience . I think a mother can only ask a child and feed her like the people who served us in Dinning hall. They really insist that you eat and they are ever ready to get you anything which is not in the menu that surprisec me its totally an experience as if you are at home. I want to mention a few names here Specially the Trainees MS KASHISH BATRA AND ATIV SHARMA . What Good kids they really take care of you personally infact to an extend that i liked a particular Mango chutney and Inquired from Kashish from were to buy it , not only she told me the brand but presented a bottle to me , so sweet of her , great Kid. Ativ and kashish made our breakfast a memorable experience . I liked the plain omelette which is served , i inquired from Mr prateek Gulati , the Assist manager and he literally guided me how to make one at home like this one. Then Mr Raj kumar Bhatia, Sous Chef , wanted to teach me himachali food cooking , i decided to learn also but could not msnage to give time to him . During all this meal time i found Mr AMANDERP THE GM visiting and meeting guest and asking for any problems , so Akin to Army culture , this is the way we have looked after our guest in officer messes . His commitment is total and his team is well mannered and trained . THE day i left at least i felt sad to leave all of them and i could see a little remose on everyone`s face too but then i am sure this is life for them . But bonhomie which these people created still hangs with me and my eife we are remembering thoe kids Trainees , who did promise us to meet in Gurgaon . I have invited all of them to have a meal with me in Gurgaon , with a promise that i will cook most of myself besides my wife , lets see. Mr Vikram in conclusion i have the following points :- 1. Oberoi Hotel is not a run of mill kind of experience your staff doesnt look stereotypes , but they put there heart and soul in making the guest feel great as if they are at home . 2. Well trained and discipined. 3. Young lot hence full of zeel and energy. 4. Hand picked by HR dept . 5. Committed to the core. 6. Extremly hard working lot . 7. Headed by leaders . 8. Curteious to the core 9. They dont look they are posing but they are real , they are not working only for money but , as a passion which is most important . 10 . The reason for all this is probably your vision Mr VIKRAM OBEROI , thats why i am writing so much because i felt that i am back to Army after leaving Army for the first time . HATS off to you Sir .👌 THANKS A LOT AND FOR ME IT WILL ALWAYS BE OBEROI IF ITS VACATIONS HERE IN INDIA OR ABROAD . Mr Vikram if i was not in Army I am sure i must have BEEN WITH OBEROI REGARDS, COLONEL. RAKESH
Me and my colleague stayed there for 1 night only. Ambiance is just awesome and staff treats you real well. Our Meal plan was EP (Breakfast only), that was our best breakfast ever. Services were just great . Room was also awesome, location of the hotel is nearby mall Road so you can enjoy the walk. Best thing was our buffet breakfast ,lots of options were available in breads, jams, juices etc . I personally dont like the yellow lights that was the thing that i disliked . And yes how can i forget that super awesome swimming pool.
Hospitality cannot get better than this.. We complained that the room was noisy and we were upgraded to the Deluxe suite at no extra cost. Hotel sent their car at Chandigarh for our pick up as we had requested for the same . Excellent Chauffer Bheem and impecable transfer service. The hotel is directly accessible by car and no walk or steep climb is required . ( Most of the Shimla hotels need a steep climb of few minutes ). Rooms are well appointed but we are giving 4 stars and not 5 stars because there was no Hand held shower near the commode to was the rear. Toilet paper only... Food variety and service is excellent. Ask hotel for any transfers or sight seeing services. They are reasonably priced. However , stay AWAY from Reena Devi Travels. ( not directly arranged by the hotel ). They charge full price but drive the vehicle with AC off most of the times and when insisted on AC , they drive with the AC on minimum settings thereby having a suffocating and unpleasant experience. The detailed ordeal which we suffered cannot be put here , but has been emailed to the Hotel GM for corrective action and they have taken cognizance of the matter. We suggest to tourists to book this hotel directly from their website to avail of attractive rates
We were fortunate to stay three nights here as we had a relaxed time in Shimla. Our Shimla holiday went well until my wife got bitten by a monkey walking up to the Jakhu temple. We had been warned about taking sunglasses, fruit or making eye contact but despite following all this, a little monkey ran up from behind and bit my wife on the calf. No blood drawn but still a blood blister forming and a rabies concern if scratched. We phoned the Cecil and on arrival back at the hotel we were greeted with a driver and staff member who spoke excellent English. We were whisked to the hospital that is about 100m away and the hotel staff member paid and organized everything. This would have been difficult to organize ourselves. I suppose that the true measure of assistance and help is when you need it most and so we thank the Cecil team for totally exceeding our expectations. The same can be said for the restaurant, concierge and all other staff. Having stayed in lots of 4 or 5 star hotels recently this was by far the best service and a fantastic place to stay. Staff also undertook check-in at our room, provided gifts - local crafts, and historic photo prints, and we had good conversations with restaurant and room service staff that are usually difficult in India as we only speak English. The monkeys in town and around the hotel seem nothing to worry about, but personally I would give the Jakhu temple that looks out over Shimla a miss. The view is average and crowds of intimidating monkeys you could probably do without. Even if we carried a stick we wouldn’t have seen the sly attacker.
