Having been a long stay guest here for over 6 years I felt it time to mention the service .. The Sofitel prides itself in customer service and believe me you get it especially from Jason on the excecutive lounge 😊 He prides himself in making your stay the best ever, always remembers your beverage choice to the point he doesn't need to ask what you'd like to eat as he knows exactly what you'd like... he's so attentive and helpful with a huge smile to go with it. I'm looking forward to going back next month.. There are numerous other staff I could mention but Jason is the stand out member by far..he's a legend..
It is great to be back. Sofitel is always my first choice in Shenyang. Staff here are fantastic especially Jason at the executive lounge and the front desk staff on 26h floor. Very thoughtful, friendly and polite people. I must say that I am a bit disappointed with the swimming pool, it is too small for a decent swim. However, they do offer a lot of other varieties such as table tennis, squash and the indoor golf range is fantastic and the putting green. The location is so central, 100 meters from the metro, close to everywhere. Taking this opportunity I wish all the staff and team and healthy, joyous 2018.
I am in the lucky situation of being allowed to travel a lot – throughout amazing China as well as internationally. But even for me, this is opening a new chapter: making a hotel stay become my home stay. I have accepted an assignment in one of these global companies operating out of Shenyang, and the conditions applying include a nice deal: staying at Sofitel for the entire time of my stay (most likely even more than a whole year) over here in the cold, but pretty awesome North of China (it’s winter right now, and it’s really cold, but every day is about blue sky and lots and lots of sunshine) So here comes my first review after an entire month of staying at Sofitel – and I will get back here to make this become a “long term reflection” just as stated in the headline. ROOM: Let’s get this straight to the point – Sofitel is not the newest 5-star establishment in town, but 5 star it is and there is a reputation to defend. The entire hotel is under renovation, they are aware as well, things need to be polished up. What amazes me is that they really make sure, the renovation work won’t disturb their distinguished guest – things take place when I am off to work. And that is not a matter of course – especially not in a country were construction is normally torturing you 24/7 – with a lot of noise… My room on 24th floor (most guests are in the upper floors, with the renovation taking place on lower floors – far out of sight) is huge, and everything is in place to make me feel at home. FITNESS / SAUNA / POOL: The main storyline of this first reflection is all about the people in this hotel – it’s because of them that I feel motivated to sit down and create this much text. The entire staff at Sofitel are warmhearted people eager to make me feel at home away from home. That’s specifically true for the - very fit - guy who takes care of the (male) locker room – always eager to offer me another towel if he sees the need. I love the sauna area, since it includes something I don’t see so often – a hot pool AND a pool of ice cold water. Not for everyone, but indeed foe everyone who takes sauna seriously. Sauna, hot steam room, hot tube, a swimming pool, a jacuzzi, nice recliner to take some off time, it’s all in place. The fitness area won’t disappoint either, again everything in place you might want to expect. But hey, they go one step further: a driving range for golf, table tennis with a ball machine, volley ball in a dedicated court, a yoga room or – if all of this is becoming a bit overwhelming - go spend some time in the relaxation room… BREAKFAST: Well, we are talking about a stay with the French – alright? So you can expect something great. I don’t speak much of their (beautiful) language, but I know one thing for sure – French have taste. And very good chefs. The variety is still entertaining me after a whole month, the food is fresh and served to order. It doesn’t hurt if you speak a little Chinese – because if you do, everting turns magic. They start to interact with you, asking for your individual needs, remembering these and offering the same the next day. DINNER: I told you – I am in on a great deal. So yes, I have dinner here at Sofitel as well. Same place as breakfast, but now overlooking an even broader variety of food. I am not sure, how much more kg I will put on if I am about to become lazy and top the regular visit in the fitness area, I am a serious fan of their dinner buffet. There are other restaurants as well (I know about a Chinese and a French) – but I haven’t made it to try out these. That’s a message already, no? I can afford to eat out, ok? But why would I – for one considering how cold it is outside, and for two if you have such great options right here, why go anywhere else? SERVICE: Now this is going to be the best part. I have spent quite some thought on making some of the people at Sofitel stand out, mention their name and share with you what is so special about this one specific guy. I decided against it. It won’t be fair to those I won’t mention. These are all amazing people. Well, I make one exception because the person in charge deserves to be mentioned: the GM of Sofitel, Mr. Jeremy Aniere. What a genuine human being! He gives you just the right amount of attention, staying away if you need to have some time for yourself, but always close enough if there is anything he might be able to help with. He walks the talk and the way he speaks about his people as of “they all have a heart of gold” is full of a well-deserved pride. To achieve this – to make all of his staff become and act as one team, united in their mission to serve you, that’s what made Sofitel my home already – allowing me to not miss my family too much. I told Jeremy that I wanted to help making this amazing place even better (you know, you want to give back something if you get served so well) and since my profession is that of a business process improvement expert, I just couldn’t resist. So whenever I brought up something – as tiny as it might be, the change was applied that quick, simply amazing… ENVIRONMENT: Sofitel isn’t in the center of town. And that’s exactly why it’s in a perfect location. Hey, come on – I am here on business, not to party. Every day I need to get out of the city and into the manufacturing site outside of town (by now you might be able to identify whom I work for…). So, avoiding the heavy traffic in the morning is key. And reaching anything else in town is easy anyway, with the metro right in front of your door and some alternative restaurants and shops just around the corner as well. I need to stop here, wondering anyway who is going to read this much. Far too much, far too positive? Sorry for it, but this is how I feel. I always end with the same statement: don’t trust me at all – go there yourself and find out whether I am right or not. Tell me, if I am not, I am still here – and I will help to get things improved… ;-))))
We had a very comfortable stay and received the best service as always by our butler, Jason. His service truly is impeccable, attention to detail and his ability to remember our personal preferences is amazing, hasn't failed once. The club lounge is quite good and selection of liquor is adequate. For an aging hotel, the rooms are well maintained. However The buffet breakfast is in dire need of improvement.
I stay at Sofitel many times a year on business trips and find the service at the Exec lounge to be very good. Thanks to Jason, Ash, Stella, Steven (think that his name) and Christina for awesome service!
Christina and Stella who hosted us in the club lounge are very professional and friendly. The hotel's food is very nice, and the rooms are spacious and clean. The front desk personel are also very helpful, especially with organizing taxis and translating addresses.
The front desk staff are amazing. In particular I had excellent experiences with Nicole and Susan and also the concierge services of Lisa and Owen. All were a pleasure to work with as they were very helpful and friendly. Some of the rooms are under renovation so there is a bit of noise in the upper floors but that occurs only during daytime hours. I have stayed here many times and am glad to see the renovations taking place. I only hope that they will finally replace the carpeting on the second floor that really needed to be replaced when the hotel was owned by Sheraton. It really needs to be replaced.
Sara from the executive lounge is an excellent host. She goes all out to assist guests. My stay at Sofitel was really enjoyable. Sara's communication and admin skills are exceptional. I was very impressed.
Always happy to come back to Sofitel, and felt so surprised to see Ash. She is one of the employees impressed me a lot from the last experience. She is always full of passion for everything about me, just as she did for others. What surprise me is her strong memory, she still knows my favorite restaurant and little things about getting red wine before dinner! Occasionally, I have my birthday during the period at Sofitel. The gift prepared by Ash made me feel so touching. Ash means more friend to me than a butler. It is delighted to see her again.
Sofitel Lido in Shenyang is well situated and very quiet. The rooms are comfortable and well equipped. The Wi-Fi is working well but a little bit slow. The breakfast is served in a quiet area at 06:00 am, which is quite comfortable for business men who have meeting soon in Shenyang.
