Beautiful hotel next to the monastery... nice decor.... it’s restaurant served us great vegetarian food... staff is pleasant and well meaning.... rooms are very dark and depressing probably because they are built for severe winters..
Highly recommended! Upon arrival, you can feel the friendliness from the staff. They make you feel welcomed. Other than their service, love their selfmade Linka cookies & ginger tea, complimentary Songtsam Monastery entrance tickets, Tibetan dining, free drop off service to Deqin airport. The only downside is the wifi is a bit weak in our room. They also have Tibetan performance delivered by their staff every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
We highly recommend this hotel. We were warned that when staying at a hotels in Shangri-La, one should lower their expectations. Not here. We were warmly welcomed at the door, we sat on the couch in the lobby and were served ginger tea from kettles kept warm on a wood burning stove. The staff was excited and eager to meet us. Then we were given slippers and were shown to our room. It was spacious, clean, comfortable, beautiful, it seemed traditional yet the amenities were modern. The robes were to die for! The food was local, well prepared and delicious. The hotel has a library we recommend you visit. Our favorite part of the hotel was the staff. They were so friendly and their hospitality unmatched. Many can communicate in simple English. But they use a good translator ap on their phones when they need to. Thanks to everyone at the hotel. A great stay!
The rooms are very spacious and the views are incredible. The management staff are excellent, the young ones needs more training and support. Lunch hours should be extended and a wider F&B offerings would be appreciated.
The hotel is not an Accor member anymore but for the time being they maintain good standards. The rooms are huge and pleasant with a balcony overlooking the temple. We tried both the Tibetan and western restaurants and they offer an excellent selection of dishes. The Tibetan specialties are delicious. The breakfast is also very good. A special thank you to Dolma the assistant GM who was so friendly and professional.
I was very angry with the information provided by hotel. They were often very incorrect and it brought me as a guide a lot of trouble! And I even spoke with them in fluent Chinese (I am a Chinese language intepretor, they don't speak English at the reception). First they told me that we should have a family room instead of a two double rooms. Based on their description, family room is just two double rooms connected. True was, yes there were four beds, but only one restroom, no windows in one part of the room and it was very small, outside of the main building. My clients were very disappointed, they felt like we locked them outside intentionally and I had to change rooms for that. No need to mention I lost my face in front of the clients, Hotel even charged me 1300Rmb for their own mistake. Than I asked if they can take us to the airport. They said yes and it is for free. I asked three times if they are sure it is for free. They said yes. The day before the pickup (leaving for airport next day 7am) they told me I have to pay 400RMB! they told me this information when it was already too late to make transport arrangements by myself! So I asked if it is possible for driver to take me as a guide back to the city at least. They told me of course. But when I was in a car, driver told me that he is picking up other people and he cannot take me. Unprofessionality of staff in this hotel costed me around 200USD and they didn't even say sorry! They didn't even admit they made mistakes. They just were arguing with me constantly and telling me all kind of excuses. I don't consider this a service in 5star hotel! Of course the surroundings were really nice, rest of the rooms were very nice, breakfast were good, dinner bad, Hotel staff was friendly but just very Unprofessional and not willing to admit mistakes!
This is not to be confused with the Songtsam Hotel 400 meters away, owned by the same group. Our room, a deluxe twin, was in the building on a higher level to the main reception building, on the first floor (not ground). Each room has a main door at ground level but then ours had steps to take us to our actual front door and our room. We had a great view looking out over the valley and the monastery. The room was open plan, with a lounge area at the front, the bed on a raised level, the bed itself just a mattress height on this raised level and therefore not for those who find it difficult in getting off the floor. There was a bath and basin within the open plan area and a shower and toilet each with their own doors. Free wi-fi not a bad speed considering the location. The restaurant is back on the reception level of the area but in a different building across the courtyard from the reception. There is a tibetan restaurant on the ground floor and a bar and western restaurant on the 3rd floor, although the western restaurant is only open in the evening and they therefore serve both tibetan and western food in the tibetan restaurant. We had two dinners and one lunch in the tibetan restaurant. The tibetan food was very good indeed, we tried quite a few things. The yak is very tasty, in effect a type of beef. For the lunch we had spaghetti bolognese and it was very tasty. Breakfast is also served here, a buffet with quite a selection of the usual as well as Chinese/tibetan food. There is a counter cooking food and they had obviously not been asked for scrambled egg before, but with a bit of help they managed to get it. The service both in the hotel side and the restaurant is excellent and this is a very nice place to stay indeed.
We came here for a couple of nights but we would have stayed longer: the staff was very nice and helpful, spoke quite good English and made our stay unforgettable. The hotel is very well located, behind the Temple and with wonderful views. The rooms are ample and very clean, the food is good and the spa has not a very wide menu but the offer is good enough and the service is top quality. The only "but" in my opinion is that there is not information in the room neither of the possible activities nor about the hotel itself. You con only find it at the reception desk and if you ask for it. It is not easily accesible. Nonetheless once you ask for it everyting is easy, well explained and at reasonable prices. A pity that it is hard to find. I do not want to finish without praising once more the staff, because they are really wonderful, all of them. Thank you for a great stay
Breathtaking - near airport, I massed Yaks, Local people in tradition costumes and the golden roofs of Sumsteling Monastery. Round the corner welcomes me Shangrila Boutique Hotel with staff waiting at entrance, smiling and offering orange - ginger tea. The interior is unique - modern class combined with traditional Tibetan furnitures. Food was tasty Andover all the friendly staff, mostly locals - Taxi and Tibetans. That is a place where I definitely will come back.L.T. Barshee, Switzerland
This gorgeous unique hotel is completely flawless. The rooms and views are fabulous and the staff are exceptionally helpful and kind. The restaurant is amazing, with the buffet breakfast being possibly the best that we have ever had. We highly recommend the pasta and trout. This is not only a hotel; it has the best collection of Tibetan artefacts and antiques. The staff are Tibetan, and the hotel really looks after the local community, by providing employment and support. We loved the spa, and can recommend the morning meditation. We loved eating French food whilst looking out at the monastery!
