My first trip to Shanghai and I couldn't have asked for a better hotel. Attentive staff, great location, world class gym and a small thing but important to lots of business people an excellent breakfast buffet! Props to all the staff and specific call out to Executive Sous Chef Hertwig Knapen and his team of chefs. It is tough to please everyone but their patience and wonderful food makes an early morning meal worthwhile. Will be back.
The staff at the Portman Ritz-Carlton, Shanghai made my stay exceptional. Peggy in the club lounge addressed me by name days after I told her my name. I was very impressed she remembered because I'm certain she that she meet hundreds of people daily. From the event planners, Flora Jiang and Wade Ma, to reservation Bessie Wang, they went an extra mile to ensure that all our requests were met. From check in to departure, my experience at the hotel was the best ever. The hotel location is great for shopping, restaurants and banquets. I would highly recommend the Portman Ritz-Carlton for accommodation, as well as, for events.
The overall experience is great for business. I'd rate it 9/10. Many of the staff members are very professional, friendly and helpful. The only slight issue (not serious) is that maybe newer staff members need to understand the customer's situation a bit more - e.g. if you know that I'm hosting an important meeting in the executive club lounge and a guest needs to access the floor to attend the meeting but forgets to bring her ID then let her come up - use a bit of common sense (I already said there will be people that will mention my name and just let them up to the floor). Basically, use a bit of common sense - do not follow rule blindly.
very nice location in the heart of Shanghai, and extraordinary experiences of hospitality in the hotel, in the whole process of check-in, stay, breakfast, dinner and check-out. officers in the hotel are very professional
My husband and I have stayed at this location many times. My husband goes at least twice a year for work, but I've joined him 3 times. This time our 23 year old daughter joined us. We stayed on the Club Level where the customer service, guest relations, food, and the experience was amazing. The location of the Portman is perfect. Very close to the Metro (just 2 blocks away) which makes the entire city at your fingertips. Super convenient to shops, the Jing'an Temple, and restaurants. The staff at the Portman are wonderful. We want to recognize Sharon, our housekeeper who made our stay extra special as she left us nice notes, flowers, and two elephant towels (see photos). Ivy and Lena who work in the Club Lounge also made our visit special as we were personally welcomed by these ladies every time we entered the Club Lounge. Ivy and Lena helped us with dinner reservations, hotel car reservations, taxi reservations, and help with anything else we needed. We look forward to seeing them again on our next visit.
Two people at the Portman Ritz-Carlton made a stay memorable: Jupiter - newer greeter at the door who befriended me on arrival. There was confusion on my booking and while he took my bags to my room he made arrangements to make certain I was completely satisfied. The confusion may have been on my part, I will never know. I paid more, but, experienced a great 3 days at the Portman. I know Jupiter is new to the Portman, but, with his dedication to the client experience he will do well. I hope this post helps. In the executive lounge another staff member shone - Caitlyn. She catered to my friends and my needs exactly with great suggestions and grace. She made us feel immediately comfortable and catered to our group with the professional, yet casual, ability to assess when we needed something new. She has an elegant ease to her that we found engaging and we chatted about many ideas for our trip. People make the difference. Good hiring Portman.
This was my 14th trip to Shanghai, but my first to the Portman Ritz-Carlton. The hotel location, service, restaurants, bar, banquet facilities and atmosphere were all first class. I would highly recommend this hotel for western business travels along with tourists.
I have stayed at the Portman several times in years past, but had switched to a sister hotel on my 5x a year trips to Shanghai. I decided to try the Portman again as I have been disappointed in my regular hotel and I am glad I gave the Portman another go. The center where the hotel is located is phenomenal with a variety of shopping options as well as restaurants. Customer awareness and service was top notch except in the lounge. In the four days I was there, there was no personal touch in the lounge and minimal service. The customer service personnel were amazing in contrast.
Great luxurious hotel on one of Shanghai’s best streets, located on Nanjing road , close to everything and a very pretty sight at night. Great restaurants and shopping on the entire strip of Nanjing road and very safe to to walk at any time.
I visit Shanghai several times a year for business and like the Ritz Portman hotel because it is centrally located to nice restaurants, pubic transportation and shopping. Additionally, the hotel is located at Shanghai Center, that comprises several retail businesses, restaurants, grocery, banks, and medical facilities.
