One of the oldest foreign-style hotels in Shanghai, actually a wall garden compound with four separate hotel buildings of the Jinjiang group. A great oasis in the middle of the old part of the city just of busy Huaihai Lu, a fashionable shopping street.
I am an experienced traveler due to my work as a Consultant. From all the years that I have been staying in & out of hotels, this has to be the worst customer service experience! Its unfortunate since the hotel has an "old Chinese" charm and the location was greatt! The room size are good & nicely decorated although I agree with the other Reviewers that the temperature needs individual control since it is too hot! The front desk clerks are not very friendly and speaks very little English. If you are non-Chinese speaking guest, forget it --- they will just pass you around to someone who can a speak a little English and will never get answers. If you ask a Taxi early in the (6ish) morning, you will find a bellhop sleeping on a bench across the front desk. He will just call on the phone & not try to hustle a taxi outside the compound. Location of the gym & spa is in another building, not conducive especially when raining. I have stayed at the Okura Garden Hotel across the street. Their rates are slightly higher, but worth every penny! Their staff aim to please and no communication issues. I will not stay at this hotel again & nor will recommend to anyone. I will not hesitate to pitch the hotel across the street if need to stay at this location.
The hotel does not allow us to adjust the room temperature. It was uncomfortable experience.

In overall, the experience was good, great location, however the environment is a bit cold and the staff are less attentive and willing to assist than in other places of with similar rates around the area. Like I said, the location is great and I think is one of the best features, i could try it again if there's a good rate or discount.
A classic hotel with 5 stars. Everything was fine and the staff were helpful. However internet costs 15USD per day regardless of wifi or cable. Please kindly note that there are three buildings inside the hotel. You may have to call the front desk to confirm the building prior to arrival in order to prevent extra moving.

The hotel location is very good. it is close to subway line 1 and IAPM Mall. The staff are proud of the hotel history. The room has been mostly refurbished. The only negative thing I would complaint about is the smell of the carpet. You can smell the staleness of the carpet before you even enter your room. Other than that I am quite happy with the hotel.
not five stars, it is not bad but the atmosphere is definitely four starts at least in the short building, which is more for low budget traveling executives. The room was nice but there is a smell of cigarette or old building to it. I liked it but i wouldn't book this place again unless there was a nice discount.
It is easy to recommend the Jin Jiang on Mao Ming Road. The location is great; easy to walk to restaurants, subway and shopping. The grounds are very well maintained. The staff is efficient and helpful. While the room is well priced for all of these qualities, the price for the internet and breakfast is high.
Very good value. Very pleased with room size and quality. City is huge so there are hotels all around, but this was a good location for us. Not on a super busy street so some relief from the hustle and bustle. The additional breakfast package is worthwhile.
My new bride and I truly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The breakfasts were both western and eastern style. You can easily try a different style each day and not get bored. Plenty of nice restaurants within an easy walk or short cab ride.
I have been in Shanghai several times and this hotel is one of the best I stayed. It is classy and in very good location. The subway station is close by and there are many restaurants and shops around. If you want to have custom tailored suits, there are many shops within the same block.
The hotel compound takes up an entire city block and very nice. I was in town for work and everyone seemed to know the hotel and were impressed I was staying there. I enjoyed the comfortable bed and pillows very much since they are hard to come by in Asia. I stayed in the Cathay Garden Luxury Suite and it would have been perfect if the windows weren't frosted over??? I had absolutely no view except for the little bit that I could see when I opened the window. There was always someone on staff that spoke English so that was a bit helpful. Overall the place was worth it for one bill a night. If I can get the same deal I would book again in the future.
