Conveniently located in the former French Concession area where restaurants, boutiques, interesting sights can be easily reached. Impeccable service, comfortable & clean rooms and beautiful gardens to appreciate. Watch out for wedding celebrations at the weekends which can spoil the tranquility of this idyllic haven.
There is no doubting the beautiful architecture and lovely setting in which the hotel is situated. As mentioned before it really is an oasis. But it’s beauty is wasted somewhat and tranquility deafened by the lack of atmosphere. Maybe it was exceptionally quiet at the time of travel but apart from a couple of others that sometimes ate in the restaurant it was generally only me and a couple of restaurant staff. There was no buzz in the reception area either. I thought I was stuck in some twilight world, albeit a very beautiful one. The food was ok but over priced and very slow service. I didn’t mind as I had time on my hands but would be annoying for some. That said if you are a big breakfast lover (and meat eater) the buffet breakfast looked lovely. The rooms were nice but dated. Having a connecting room to mine was a bit annoying and I’d probably request that I didn’t have such a room next time. I could hear neighbours snoring and they could hear me speaking and banged on the interconnecting door to make it clear I needed to whisper! (I’m not a loud speaker and if you want privacy this isn’t the room to have!) I enjoyed my stay, and liked the local area. But the hotel needs to do something to attract more visitors and create a warming atmosphere in lobby areas.
Another wonderful stay at this beautiful hotel. The rooms at this Intercontinental are stylish and well maintained. The grounds are beautiful-it is an oasis in a busy city. The location is very convenient, you are a walk away from lots of shops, cafes and restaurants so a good choice if you are new to Shanghai. The service was exceptional. We were greeted at the desk as an Ambassador member and upgraded. The door staff are very helpful. I Highly recommend this hotel and also the Ambassador program( so many wonderful hotels)!
Everything was excellent. Room, food, and especially service all as good as you could possibly wish for. The bath was virtually the size of a small swimming pool - well maybe not that big, but certainly very spacious. Quite an amazing range of juices for breakfast including cucumber and carrot, both delicious. The slightly old-fashioned ambience was most welcome and gave it a real touch of class. Highly recommended.
A number of recent poor reviews, I should have read them before I stayed. There’s no shortage of choice of good hotels near French Concession in Shanghai. This unfortunately isn’t one of them. It feels like a great place when you arrive by car into the wonderful grounds. Such a let down at reception means at first you put it down to one or two staff that aren’t on form that day. However, try the restaurant and it’s like another world of terrrible service ( and the food is really not great ) I can only assume the hotel management do not read these reviews either or take any actions with regards to training.Such a pity that such a great location and infrastructure are let down by such poor management. I’m sure that the hotel wouldn’t qualify for Intercontinental service levels in any audit, as the levels of customer service simply do not compare with other, norammly great Intercontinental Hotels. So can only surmise that this is a temporary situation. Not a place I’d return to given the choice of good hotels in Shanghai.
We initially thought we would roll up and enjoy an afternoon tea here, but with the smokiness of the outside, we decided not to eat. The waitress was hopeless, left to run the whole outdoor deck by herself, took a long time taking our order. My terrible, weak, watery coffee came out a full fifteen minutes before my wife's tea. Both ran us 78RMB each, and it plain and simply wasn't worth the price of admission. My wife's tea was regularly topped up with hot water, while if I wanted another cup of terrible coffee, I would have needed to spend another 78RMB. Which is well over ten dollars. For shame.
This old hotel, consisting of different buildings, sits within a peaceful park in the French Concession. We stayed in a spacious suite in the main hotel which was lovely. The building interiors and the exterior park are all lovely. The staff is exceedingly helpful. There is also a Michelin star restaurant on the grounds that serves a superb Chinese-French fusion cuisine and has both indoor seating and an outdoor terrace.
The hotel located between maoming south road and ruijin er road, the hotel built in european style in the dream garden with beautiful fountain and flowers ..... apologize i havent took a photo of the atmoshere, just video. The hotel is low rise building and very well arranged. Room is very classy, and i could not ask for more, the furnishings, the ceilings, coffee machine, toilet stuffs in brass and white, best scent toiletries, excellent service, quick checkin&checkout. flawless! I just never want to leave the hotel. Highly recommend.
Amazing property by ihg. Such a old building in a busy city. The surrounding is cover by greenery. Beautiful garden and nice architecture building. Upon arrived ,I am glad that the hotel upgrade my room to a club room. I appreciate this. Room was big and clean. Although is kind of dated feeling but that's the whole point for this building. Breakfast is good . Location is near to tianzifang. I would recommended this hotel, if you are looking into Old English type of hotel.
The hotel building is impressive. The rooms are clean and stylish. Unfortunately, the air conditioning is totally ineffective. The choice of red wine is limited to only two different bottles. The quality of customer service at the reception desk was very poor. I was treated as a second class person because I was paying for the stay by using reward points. No recognition of my Spire Elite status, no reply or consideration given to an earlier email I had sent to the hotel and no offer of an upgrade or welcome amenity. The receptionist constantly told me that if I had paid with money rather than points I would be upgraded to a club room but because I used points I was not entitled to anything that I would normally receive as Spire Elite. After some considerable time spent discussing this, he eventually upgraded my room. It was very embarrassing having to almost beg for an upgrade that he said would be offered if I had paid for the stay. A very disappointing start to our stay!
