Hyatt On The Bund5.0 out of 5.0

I live in Shanghai and have been making it slow quest to visit all of the bars with view in the Bund/Lujiazui area. I've been to several, and this past weekend finally made it to the Vue Bar at Hyatt on the Bund. I went with four friends and we arrived late in the afternoon on Sunday. While views are good from the roof and from inside the bar one floor down, there is very limited seating on the roof (the day we were there, all of the seating areas except one table were empty but off limits with "reserved" signs (maybe for bookings in the evening?), so we went upstairs, took a few photos and then moved downstairs to sit at a table near a window. We paid 110 RMB per person to enter the Vue Bar and were told this would apply to our first drink (this is pretty standard fare in many bars with a view, and we weren't surprised by this). What we were surprised by, though, was the drink you were allowed to enjoy with your ticket. You could order off a limited menu that included sparkling wine, white wine, red wine and beer. I ordered sparkling wine and my friend ordered red wine, and the servings were definitely of the half variety (3 oz. at most). At similar establishments (Cloud Nine, for instance), you pay a similar fee but then can order a proper cocktail off the regular menu, which costs about the same as the fee you paid to get into the bar. So, in comparison, this was not a great deal. In addition, my friend visited the bathroom and was so appalled by the state of cleanliness that she made a complaint with the bartender and let him know that the facilities were very dirty (surprising for a property of this caliber). Of all of the Shanghai establishments (restaurants and bars) we've visited so far in the city, this one is at the bottom of my list of recommendations and I won't be taking friends and family when they visit. I'd recommend Char Bar, Pop, Cloud Nine and Flair as much better options.
I stay at Hyatt on the Bund when I travel to Shanghai. This trip was extra special because I was staying there when the UCLA and Georgia Tech College Basketball teams were competing in Shanghai and they were staying at Hyatt not the Bund as well. Since I am from LA it was fun to chat with the players. I even met Basketball legend, Bill Walton, who was working with ESPN to announce the game. Bill was staying at Hyatt on the Bund too. It was another great stay for me at Hyatt on the Bund.
I didn't have high expectations from this hotel and it totally blew me away. I booked the hotel through American Express Travel, which gives you a $75 food and beverage credit and a room upgrade--that was excellent. Covered breakfast for two. We were in the East Tower, which has river views, not views of Pudong. Even without the view, I thought the room was great. The beds were very comfortable, the bathroom was huge, and the room overall was just a lot larger than I expected. I'm typically a fan of Hyatt properties, and this one is no exception. WiFi here is free, which is nice. The Vue bar in the West Tower is really great. Probably one of the better rooftop bars on the Bund. Lots of people, but plenty of space and good drinks, although pricey. There's a hot tub too if that's your thing. The hotel offered us late check out, and the Concierge team was very helpful in giving us directions on how to get to the Former French Concession. All the staff we interacted with spoke great English and were more than willing to help at every turn. Would definitely recommend.
Large Hyatt, with two wings. Very close to the Bund, easy walking distance. Very impressive inside the lobby, but not very cosy or inviting. Never seemed to be quite enough staff on reception and there was always a queue. Rooms were fine, clean, tidy, but nothing special.
This is a very nice property on par with the other Asian Hyatt’s I have been fortunate to use. I had a king room with a great view of The Bund and Pudong skyline. That class room came with Regency Lounge Access which was far above domestic USA lounges and average for Asia. Quite nice and the service was impeccable. The property itself has magnificent views. But, is not extremely close to much. It is however an easy walk to The Bund and Nanjing East Road. Three subway stops, Tiantong, East Nanjing Road and International Cruise Terminal are all a few blocks walk away which should then get you easily about anywhere. I used all three extensively for access to the world class subway system. All in all a great and enjoyable stay.
Living in Shanghai for 5 years, I had tried many of the famous weekend (free flowing Champagne) brunches that the city has to offer. Out of all of them, Hyatt on the Bund stands out as not only the one offering the best views but with the highest quality food to offer: from fresh lobster, crab and steak, to fine cheeses and wines, it is safe to say there is something for everyone. Go on up to the Vue bar afterwards if you want to continue the festivities with a fancy libation.
I went to the Hyatt hotel for business. I found a warm ambient, good location, nice personal and a great view. I had a very good time in Shanghai. Next time I have to travel to Shanghai I will come back to Hyatt.
No complaints...good location to explore the Bund and soak up the views of the river and the Pudong lights. Club Lounge offered a nice spot for ample evening snacks and drinks and the breakfast assortment was good (pastries, eggs, Chinese cuisine, etc.) Rooms are the star here...we had a river view room and couldn't stop watching the river traffic and the lights as the sun went down and came up in the morning. Good storage space, large TV, good wifi and huge bathroom. Hotel staff not as forthcoming with info on the club hours and breakfast (guests shouldn't have to ask for what's included with room)....concierge not as customer friendly as we experienced at other places in China.
Great location, spacious rooms with astonishing views, friendly and helpful staff and a superb breakfast buffet. Excelente choice for both business and pleasure trips. Will certainly return to this hotel.
Very great view and great bar at roof top. Service is good. Location is good. Just remember to use the East Tower because the rooms there have harbor view. The best time to enjoy the roof top bar VUE is before 10:00pm because all illumination lights on the CBD Pudong are off after 10:00pm.
