I found a much lower price in Agoda.com and presented to them within 24hr of booking. I provided the proof of same booking room details and lower rate. They gave me a run around and a bunch of excuses. After four months of communicating and asking for them to honor their Best price guarantee, they made up some excuse that the Agoda rate must be fake. I provided confirmation from Agoda that the rate is bookable and legitimate, but this hotel did not care. I told them they are a deceiving, and fraudulent with their Best rate guarantee on their website. The WIFI sucks, there is smoke all the time in rooms as well as the downstairs hotel bathrooms. The windows are not air tight. Outside cold air seeps in and makes whistling noises. Some of the employees are impolite or just don't care or even know what customer services is.
I stayed for one week. The location is quite opposite of the JingAn temple. Metro across the street. Hotel building is not the newest one. Rooms are in different furniture levels, depends on the floor. 15h floor rooms were really very good. Corridors quite dark and little bit like a maze, so easy to get lost . Staff including doormen very helpful, mostly EN is no problem. The hotel has a quite good swimming pool on site along with a gym and has spa facilities although I did not use this. Internet connection in the room and lobby is about as good as you can get in Shanghai. Asian breakfast is quite well, on the European side it needs improvement of breads quality and bakery items. All in all I would stay here again.
Every thing about this hotel is great except for the location for me as i would have preferred a more central location (booked with a tour). The rooms are spacious and comfortable and the breakfast was great.
I prepayed for a room using one of the major booking sites (hotels dot com) for what seemed like a good deal for a room that looked really nice in the pictures. After travelling 24 hrs, the receptionists here tell me I've booked a basic room that is really old, not comfortable at all, and with no view, but for USD 26 per night I could upgrade to a nicer room with a great view and breakfast. It wasn't just me they were doing this too, they advertise this upgrade deal digitally right on the front desk. So I asked the receptionists to show me the two rooms. Sure enough, the first room was pretty dingy, small, decorated with old furniture, old carpet, tight spacing. The upgrade room was totally modern, large, marble countertop in the bathroom, mini bar, auto drapes, new carpet, etc. I accepted the deal, but really felt like I should have been shown accurate pictures of the room I was booking, and I hadn't read about this in the TA reviews. Past the sleazy bait and switch...yes, the lobby is nice, the gym and pool are amazing, breakfast is very good, and wifi can be good at times, non existent at others. Mine went completely out on the 2nd night of my 4 night stay and was not restored by the front desk. The location is good for business or shopping at the big malls, metro is across the street. Pure tourists might want to stay closer to the action, but it's close if you can handle the metro.
We were only there for one night, but the staff was so accommodating and bent over backwards. Amazing breakfast buffet. The room was quite luxurious and very modern, even the drapes were controlled electronically and a wonderful view
just stayed 2 nights. nice hotel but although its near new malls and temple its a taxi ride to the old town and harbour which I did not realise and would have wanted a hotel closer to the main tourist sites . hotel entrance very bright but the corridors very dark and like a maze so easy to get lost . staff including doormen very helpful . the only minus was the high food and drink cost . £18 for 2 coffees in bar and £20 for a burger . Although there is a tea and coffee tray in room a but we our enjoyed stay , been better if walking distance to harbour etc
We stayed here for 2 nights and were extremely pleased with the quality of the Hotel. Our room was on the 21st floor and was very roomy with free tea and coffee facilities and also free bottled water. The bed was one of the most comfortable we have experienced. The Hotel staff were so polite and helpful and most spoke very good English. Breakfast was included and it was buffet style and plentiful. The Hotel is located in a good area handy for shops and the subway and other public transport. Taxis are readily available and are very cheap but just make sure the driver turns the meter on 👍👍
I am a native Shanghaiese, our family goes back to Shanghai yearly for the past 5 years. 4 out of 5 times, we stayed in this hotel. The location is superb, very professional staff, clean and spacious room. Did I say AWESOME breakfast? I'd recommend this hotel to all my friends and will keep staying there in the future. Highly recommended!
I stayed at the Equitorial in Feb for 3 nights. This hotel is very close to the Metro station. I was initially booked on a room only basis, however upon arrival, i was offered a room upgrade which included breakfast, hi tea and happy hour for only £15 per person. I took this option and the breakfast, hi tea and happy hour represented excellent value for money. This may be something to look at when you get there as an option. The hotel itself slightly dated on the outside, depending on the way you arrive, there is a bridge which may block the name of the hotel, however that said as you enter the hotel, it is very nice, really well presented, clean and has a really nice smell throughout. The rooms are nice, normally i never sleep well on first nights but had no problems at all at this hotel. The duvets are silk filled duvets which was perfect for the time of year, really warm. The hotel has a really good swimming pool on site along with a gym, also has spa facilities although i did not use this. There is a cafe which serves snacks, light meals along with various buffet options. They also have a very good chinese restaurant. Overall i have been really impressed with the hotel and the staff, this served as a good base for visiting Shanghai and is also approx 40 mins to get to the cruise port by taxi. I would stay here again.
or Location, location, location. For a first timer in Shanghai it was a perfect spot. Not too far from the business meetings of my partner, and very comfortable access to many places of attraction. The room was comfortable to host two working people, with excellent access to internet. Staff was welcoming and attentive, yet sometimes I wish I new Chinese as it looked like my words are passing over the heads. Concierge were the best. Big minus - although a declaration of "non smoking hotel" every floor as well as public bathrooms were filled with the bitter smell of cigarettes (and once a cigar) smoke. Asian breakfast is nice, on the European side needs improvement of breads quality and baking as well as assorted cheeses. Great option for business trip, good option for couples. Xie Xie
