We spent a few days between 26th and 31st of August 2017 in this Hotel with our customer. The staff was very friendly, trying to deliver every request. The variety and the quality of the food was very good. It was so funny and relaxing to spend every night on Flanagan's Irish Pub, where the live music show was provided by awesome Banaag Trio ;o) Those peoples are very friendly and they are playing excellent music! Hope too see them next time!
Everything was nice when I arrived. Friendly staff, nice accommodations. When I opened the door to my room, the high blasting heat hit me in the face like a brick wall. I couldn't believe a room could get that hot. The thermometer was set to the highest possible heat and the sun was blasting greenhouse rays into the large open windows. The room temperature was 27 degrees Celsius. I turned the AC on, closed the blinds, left the keycard in the slot next to the door and left for the day. When I got back 7 hours later, it cooled down to 26 degrees Celsius. The AC did not work and the fan was just circulating hot air. It was late, so I didn't want to call and wait for a hotel technician, so I took a cold shower and went to bed. I barely slept because it was so hot and poured sweat all night. I have no idea why it was so hot in the room. My other companions complained of the same thing. If you like blistering sauna like conditions in your room, this is the hotel for.you!
The hotel is conveniently located in the center of Pudong. It's easy to get to and is close enough to various attractions (shopping, night life, sight seeing etc.) to ensure that you'll have ready access to both business and leisure. The rooms and food are decent. The house band (Banaag Trio) at Flannagan's (bar/restaurant tied to the hotel) is excellent. They accurately recreate a wide range of hits from the 60s through today's top rock and pop music. Whether it's a night to relax after a long business day or if you're looking to kick off into second gear for the weekend, do yourself a favor and check out these guys as they really rock!
Stayed at this property end of January 2018 at the recommendation of our local business partner. Upon check-in, I was recognized as a Rewards Club member by Alena at the Rewards Desk and promptly offered an upgrade to a suite. Suite was just lovely, with a sitting room, dressing area, enormous bath (shower, soaking tub, etc.) and large bedroom with an extra day bed. Views from my 28th floor room were great despite the normal Shanghai haze. Amenities and location were excellent, with enormous breakfast buffet serving international cuisine, a few in-house restaurants/bar and numerous nearby restaurants, convenience stores, metro stations and so forth. Exercise facility was also good, with pool, weights and machines to use. Alena was ever the gracious worker at the front desk, greeted me several times; we even had some delightful discussions about travel, world events and life. Staff were all excellent, with kudos especially to Alena and several at the concierge desk; one staffer even wrote out directions in Chinese to help me navigate the local metro and make my way to the fantastic Maglev back to the airport. Once in metro, several locals bent over backwards to help me figure out payment, schedules, directions. Everything Delightful!
The hotel location is very good just walking distance to the MRT station and there are a lot of convenient shops nearby. From the hotel, just walk around to find out restaurants. Hotel room is clean and tidy. Front desk staff welcomed me with her smiles. On the day I came to hotel, there is special offer for buffet hotpot dinner with only RMB98/pax. That is great.
Have stayed here many times over the years and always have enjoyed the location, and amenities. Stayed here recently over the Holidays and had a great experience due to the helpful and friendly English speaking staff, and the the very professional International Customer Service relations Manager Elena, who made our communication at both check-in and check-out seamless and pleasurable. Many eateries in the area with lots of choices.
I have been there five nights for work at the end of November 2017. Having to attend a fair at the old exhibition grounds in Pudong, the hotel is conveniently located on the 'correct' side of the city center when coming from the airport. The location is ideal also for strolling towards the towers or for jogging to the Century Park. A very nice Japanese restaurant and an Irish (so to say...!) pub with live music and sports within the hotel complete the good experience. Rooms are standard but well kept.
As a first time came to China and non-chinese speaking. I really glad that the staff in this hotel could speak English (not so fluent but better than my experience in the former hotel at Hangzhou). I stay here for 2 nights, I and my group did not use many services in the hotel since we had many options in the local area. Good hotel if you are not looking for a boutique style hotel.
Now named Koyal, the best thing about this hotel is its proximity to many restaurants and shops. I do wish they would have provided coffee and coffee making making supplies in the room, instead of the 2 dismal tea bags and an electric kettle. The room service had several good options as we were not interested in the buffet served downstairs or the pricey a la carte options in the hotel's Chinese restaurants. It was pouring outside, so we took the room service option and were satisfied with both the options and preparation. As we have encountered, the staff including the front desk were not equipped to deal with English speaking guests. Room was overheated and stuffy with no option to adjust the temperature even though there was a thermostat in the room. That accounted for my comment about poor sleep quality. They did bring a fan to the room but it was not much help to lower the room temperature.
Being a Holiday Inn you know broadly what to expect from this hotel. The rooms are a reasonable size but a little tired and frayed at the edges. There is free Wi-fi throughout. It is about 10 minutes in a taxi to the exhibition centre.
