DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Shanghai - Pudong5.0 out of 5.0

This well run, luxury hotel is situated near a tree lined road filled with restaurants and local shops. The breakfast is varied and includes local specialties. The executive happy hour had a generous variety of foods and drinks. Both the executive lounge and breakfast place overlook a relaxing Asian garden.
A large hotel but they still take care of you. Check in was busy but they helped everyone with quick and easy care. Will stay here again on my next business trip. Pudong airport still 45 min drive, I thought it would be closer since the hotel is in Pudong. You can't beat the Double Tree cookie!
This was an outstanding stay for me. It all started at check-in, Heidi was superb, really great smile and very professional, made me feel very valued as a HH member. The exec lounge is huge, really nicely furnished, the staff are just incredible. They are polite, helpful and nothing is too much trouble, I came in slightly late from work one evening, instead of saying sorry happy hour finished, they said help yourself before we put everything away... So many hotels would not empower their staff that way. This is what makes the difference. Team in the exec lounge that made the difference were Mary, Teresa, Sherry Luly and Nancy, thanks ladies... Gold card holders, the hotel makes you feel welcome, room upgrade without asking, nice!!!! House keeping great, room so clean, nice turn down service also in the room. Location is great, very easy by taxi from Maglev station, 10 minutes and 21 Yuan... So this is a great hotel, perfect choice for me.
The Doubletree was a good value for the price and quality level. Overall the staff was helpful but getting a taxi was difficult sometimes because of the long wait and mostly unpleasant taxi drivers (and conditions of taxis in Shanghai are pretty poor overall). The room was very clean and large, mine had both a bathtub and shower. The bed was pretty hard but comfortable. Breakfast buffet was pretty standard but good overall. The location is not that great, it's more for business travel as it's a bit of a walk to the subway and taxi service is poor, there's also not too much to do nearby (be careful of the nearby bars). There is a fantastic revolving restaurant with a beautiful view of the city on a clear day. Overall I would recommend the hotel if the location is not too important.
I will admit it was all my fault. I had an exceptional stay at Double Tree in Chongqing and I change my original booking tobstay at this Double Tree hotel. Everything started wrong, mybcheck in was bad, the kid was sick and he was sneezing almist in my face. He pretty much just ask my card and gave me the keys. Once at the room I noticed a big noise from the bathroom, it was the AC but the room was 22 C. I set the thermostat to 18C to get it cooler. I tried to use the WIFI but I realized I have no password. I came down from the 34th floor to the front desk to request more information. The manager in duty apologized and told me my last name was the password ans gave me the information that I suppose to get at the check in. I learned then about the reception and I decided to take a pick. It was nice the food and beverages. Once I went back to my room I noticed was warmer than before and the thermostat showed 24C, 2 degrees warmer than earlier even I set it at 18C. I tried the WIFI and I couldn't sign in again. Back to the front desk asked about thw password again and I was informed that it was located at the top of the desk (the young lady reacted like I suppose to know that). Then I ask if they have an upgrade to the next level from my original booking (which suppose to be automatic for Diamind level customers) and she said yes. Then I asked to be upgraded. Once back to my new room I tried the WIFI and didn't work in my cell. It was so slow! I try to work on it but never worked. The next day I went back to the front desk for some information and the kid asked me to go with the concierge (he was too busy texting) and the other six employees cannot help me neither. The only good experiences were the food, drinks, concierge and check out. The gym is in bad shape. It is years behind its partner at Chongqing. In resume, better try another hotel. I communicated all this to The Manager during my check out. Ps. They did not gave me my cookie! I have to ask for it the next morning.
The good: Very clean room, great quiet AC (and needed it, it was 104f while I was there), good breakfast. The bad. We arrived late, and the front desk check in was staffed by a trainee and a supervisor. The trainee was nice enough, but not very informed and needed the supervisor a lot, who was not as nice. The check in took about 10 minutes and I was at the front of the line. Sorry, got to be better than that. But that's my only complaint.
Stayed at that hotel many times already and finally decided to review it. The hotel is a few hundred meters from LANCUN RD Station and you can easily and quickly get to the city centre. The hotel is also situated very close by AP Market(fake market). The rooms are very nice and spacious with very nice big bathrooms. The main negative point I have is concerning room service. In my own experience, there is very often a problem when you order room service, be it that they forget to send something or send the wrong food or you receive your food cold. But they always end up sorting it out and apologizing 10 times for the problem. The guys at the consiege are very good and are the ones that speak the better English in the whole hotel in my opinion. The restaurants in the hotels are also very nice. If you go to that hotel treat yourself and go have dinner in the revolving restaurant on the top floor, the view is amazing. Overall service is good.
As a diamond member,I always choose Hilton and truly like this Doubletree hotel as they show the hospitality spirit. Hilton honor staff Ms.Sky Wu makes me feel very welcomed and she helped me with my bonus points issue with high efficiency and arranged good amenities for me! Thanks for making my stay enjoyable!
My stay was very pleasant due to the large room that I got and the service was very good and great value for money. The hotel location aided my personal plans for shopping as well. It was very easy to reach the nearest metro station and go anywhere in the city.
The staff is the worst part in this stay. 1. The check-in card was not successfully activated when I was trying to enter my room. So I have to go downstairs, walk back to the west lobby, wait in line, and activate my card. It took an additional 20 minutes. The trip from the east lobby to the west was especially long. 2. I made the phone call to request a late check-out. The receptionist apparently was not aware of the policy for gold membership. He stated only diamonds can enjoy the late check-out till 4 pm, whereas he can offer me as a courtesy to 2 pm. Courtesy??? I told him to double check the guidebook or your official website, and then was responded with a confident tone "Sir, I am pretty sure only gold members can enjoy the late check-out." Should I feel lucky that later another receptionist gave me another phone call stating "our manager said you can check out till 4pm..." and without an apology? 3. Oh yeah, another one. I was denied to enter the executive lounge. I did not have time to dispute this at that time, but now I should say the staff in this hotel DO NOT LEARN HILTON HHONORS SYSTEM. While I said I can go to the executive lobby in Hilton Hotel in the U.S, the staff told me it could possibly due to the policy difference in different countries. To be fair, I was not expecting access to the lounge, but to be denied without a fair explanation really frustrated me. This is the third Double Tree and maybe the 8th Hilton hotel I stayed in 2017. Worst ever. The hotel itself is not bad. I love the breakfast. I enjoyed the talk with the housekeeping aunt. But the staff... well, they need to learn a lot.
