Courtyard by Marriott Shanghai Central4.0 out of 5.0

I stayed at this hotel as a part of a recent Gate 1 Travel tour in China. I was nervous as I had zero control over where I stayed, and usually a lot of research goes into selecting my accommodations! I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of this Courtyard by Marriott! The location is excellent - I was able to easily find shopping & dining nearby. The breakfast buffet was included and I found it to be well prepared and plentiful. My room seemed to be a standard size, but extremely clean and in good condition! I was sure to leave a small tip each morning and found that the person cleaning my room left me extra bottles of water (beyond the 2 you get automatically). All of the staff that I interacted with were friendly & helpful. There always seemed to be someone working that spoke enough English for me to be able to communicate with them. Overall this was a great place to stay and I would return.
The rooms were small but clean & comfy. This hotel has a work out facility with a large pool. Our kids enjoyed the pool and the breakfast buffet. The staff spoke enough English to be helpful when needed.
Love the rooms! It’s so clean and spacious. It’s also located near a subway station and a main railway station that makes getting everyone a breeze! There are also shopping malls nearby and its accessible to F&B outlets.
Courtyard Marriott (万怡酒店) Shanghai Xujiahui has 364 rooms and was open in 2009. The building outside appearance looks old, but it still has a very good condition when you are inside the building. At the end of the checking process, I was surprised to learn that all Marriott Courtyard in China offer an Executive Lounge since I never see one in the U.S. I enjoyed both morning and evening hours at the Executive Lounge at the 23 floor. As a matter of fact, the food, cocktails and wines are better than most Executive Lounge in the U.S. where there is no complimentary wines, sprites, or after-dinner liquor, Bailey's Irish and etc. The taste of Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 (CAMPO LARGO) is very good. It is also worth mentioning that any waitress would like to offer you to make a Latte, Cappccino, Coffee or other drinks for you, and bring it to your table, if she is seeing you trying to make one. The Fitness Center and indoor swimming are located at the 4th floor. Please note you have to either bring your own swimming cap or rent one in the fitness center in order to swim there. The Wi-Fi speed is very good. I will rate this hotel as a 5-star in the Trip Advisor's rating system due to having a nice Executive Lounge as well as a big dining room with 45+ items. A walking distance from the hotel to the subway station #9 and #11 across the street is about 8 minutes.
The hotel is quite pleasantly located, close to a few parks, where one can stretch the legs. Rooms are ok, clean and of a suitable size and are quiet. Breakfast- good selection of food, freshly made juice this is a good start into the day.
In general it’s a good hotel. The rooms are good and cleaned. The restaurant is good, big breakfast and the fairs are ok. Location central and close to the train station (300m). The only issue is the wifi speed that is terrible.
I’m a loyal Marriott customer but have spent more time in JWs than Courtyards. Decided to stay at this Courtyard as it was less than half the price of the JW Tomorrow Square. Having stayed at both now, there’s no need to go back to the JW. This Courtyard is newer, the staff are great, the location as convenient for me, everything you wanted the room. Well stocked gym and nice swimming pool. The only drawback was the breakfast options which were not as good as JW Marriott but there was fruit and tea which is enough to get your day started. This will now be my default stop in Shanghai.
Great hotel to stay for both leisure and business, this hotel is a five minutes walk to a few stations away to popular tourist location with three transit line. It's clean and has spacious room, room is well equipped and everything seems new. Mo Mo cafe in the hotel seems to be a popular weekend buffet spot among locals, the buffet has good value however service of the restaurant can be better. The receptionist of the restaurant isn't welcoming, when I tried to book for the buffet, all she said was the restaurant had a lot of booking already, we ran out of food(?), it seems that she was encouraging me to stay out. While I understand she tries to manage customer expectation, her way of delivery is annoying and doesn't sound welcoming and professional. This hotel is now on my consideration list for Shanghai hotel, but I will stay away from the restaurant.
I have stayed at many Courtyard Marriott across the continents, while many of them are quite good, Courtyard Shanghai Central stands out as among the best, if not the BEST! What brings me back to this property again and again over the past 2-3 years are the facts that its Executive Lounge offers not only excellent services but also the best breakfasts and evening snacks!
This is the nicest courtyard in Asia. Phoebe the guest services manager is always smiling and happy to see us each and every time we come to the executive lounge. The hotel rooms are very large with high ceilings. The food is great and the location is prime!
