The goal for this hotel to go from a 3 star to 4 star is quite feasible but many things need addressed. We stayed in 7 hotels in Scotland and this location had the most uncomfortable bed of any. Check in staff was friendly but the check out staff was 15 minutes late on my wake up call and argued if we had paid the bill or not. Food was good and table settings/glassware were all very nice but need new flooring. Drinks were a bit expensive but the bar had a nice atmosphere. Overall the setting and walking trails were very nice and it was a convenient location to Edinburgh and the Jedburgh area.
