Leizpig, at the heart of former Eastern Germany, has an airport the size of Australia, vibrating (i mean literally) at night and a nice town, honestly, with true Cold War architecture at about 20kms away. So relax, the airport is just an anecdote but makes you wonder what the idea is on how this town will develop into a worldwide metropole as the airport size would allows half of the world population to safely travel there. You see the great building of the Westin when you drive into town (45 eur taxi fee from the airport). You are impressed by the quickness of check in, you discover luxurious rooms (i had one at the end of the corridor, with a terrace) and the best bed ever, I kid you not. The breakfast buffet endless, a great bar on the upper floors, a labyrinth of meeting rooms (i guess that's why the traffic signs where so abundant) and service service service. Did i mention service? Germany at its best, top. I liked it. I considered myself as an early adaptor of what soon is to become the biggest city of the world, if you consider the airport size :-)
It is located near the central railway station and the city center and offered me a breathtaking views from the room on the 17th floor. Service was great, and the room very clean and comfortable. It was also offering services for the visitors of the book fair. However, it is far from the fair grounds and the airport.
I had a room on the 23rd floor with a great view of the city. The room was very spacious, modern and inviting. The staff are very helpful from checkin - breakfast - checkout. The spa and fitness areas are also well worth visiting.
+) Location was ok, room was big enough and mostly tidy. Breakfast was great. -) We arrived at 10:00 AM and were asking if we could get a room right away. The receptionist told us, that for our room category there were no ready rooms before 03:00 PM. But she offered us an upgrade for 10€ for a room that would be already accessible. I think this is just a strategy to get more money. -) There are no coffee/tea makers at the rooms. Some other 4 star rated hotels offer this to the guests. -) We wanted to see the SPA area/indoor pool, but we would have had to pay 5€ per person for each access even just for information. To summarize, we do not like extra charges if we already pay enough money.
This is a big hotel close to the centre of town. I stayed for two nights at the weekend. My room was small but functional, although classed as a double room it was only big enough for 1 person. The room cleaning was poor, dirty coffee cups left in the room, the one towel I put in the bath as it was dirty was taken out and hung on a peg. The breakfast room couldn't cope with the number of guest, I had to wait for a table to be cleaned. Several options on the breakfast buffet were empty
I was for 3 days at The Westin for business meetings. General review is very positive at the structure is great with all the comforts. Quality of the room is excellent. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinners on high quality.
We tend to use this hotel every January for an annual industry conference that takes place in Leipzig. The hotel is really in need of an update. Two single beds are always pushed together and are pretty small in size. No ironing facilities are available in the room and as this is a hotel catering for conference and events you would expect every room to have these facilities available. The general decor of the rooms doesn’t look like it’s been undated since the 90’s Definitely one of the worst hotels I’ve stayed in when travelling with work.
I stayed here for a 4 days for a conference. The service was superb. Room service was delivered in 20 mins and the food quality was pretty good. Other requests for towels and an iron were addressed quickly. The rooms were clean with sufficient space. The beds were a bit hard and uncomfortable if you are used to a softer pillow mattress. The internet service was fast and consistent. The workout room is basic with a few treadmills, rower, and some weights. The locations is great with walking distance to many shops and restaurants. I would not call this a luxury hotel, but it was very good for a multiple day stay.
I must admit reading some of the past reviews had me hesitant. I’m glad I went now. Being a platinum member they upgraded me and offered free beer/wine evenings from 6-7. The kicker was they asked me if I wanted the platinum snacks with my beer. Naturally I expected pretzels or nuts. They brought out a basket of French bread with different spreads. About 10 minutes later they bring me a plate of rolled up veal with mashed potatoes and gravy. The bartender said the snack changes daily. Wow, nice job! Breakfast also many choices but no omelet. I will definitely return.
The first thing that caught my eye is that we didn’t have a fridge in the room..unusual. The room was very nice and cozy. The most outstanding feature is probably the restaurant in hotel. Super expensive but the food was quite an unforgettable experience
