We stayed here from 15-16th Feb 2016. The hotel/hostel is just infront of the Leipzig Hauptbahnhoft. It is not noisy. It is within walking distance from the landmarks of Leipzig, and 15 mins driving away from Monument of the Battle of the Nations. The reception area is big with a few chairs and a bar with a pool table. Its dated and not chic but its clean and the receptionists are pelasant. We stayed in room 316 which is a quadruple room. Its quiet when we stayed so we dont know if it can get noisy if the hotel is full. The room is sparsely furnished and was very basic. The beds are ok and the shower is good. Our 13 and 15 year old sons liked the room and its internet. Parking at back, we prepaid. We drove and climbed up Monument of the Battles of the Nations, went out to walk to the city centre landmarks (St Nicholas’s Church, the Old and Newmarket and the Leipzig University etc) and at our dinner at Indian Gate Restaurant. We got home at 2030, slept at 2200. It was a grand day out. We then drove on (we had several destinations all over Germany that week). The hotel suited its purpose for us. Nothing fancy, no luxury. Its cheap, its close to what we want to see. If you travel light and wants a budget place with no high expectation, I would recommend this for you.
We really enjoyed our stay at the A & O Hostel. We traveled with a large group and the lobby was small but clean. I was not traveling with my children, but was still so impressed with the kids' playing area in the lobby and the basement! The reception staff were so friendly and spoke really good English. We deposited some valuables with them during the day and it was easy and seemed totally safe. There is a bar and TV area in the lobby that had some great drink specials although we did not get the chance to take advantage of them. Also bottled water and other drinks available for purchase, but you will be paying more for that convenience. I would recommend buying water at one of the grocery stores in the train station across the street. We stayed in one of the hotel rooms, which were nice. Everything looked like it came from Ikea and was in good condition. The high ceilings gave the room an elegant feel, despite the fact that it was fairly small otherwise. No, the rooms aren't cleaned every day but we were fine with that. The free Wi-Fi is very slow so it might be worth it to pay for Wi-Fi if you need to use it much. Our room was right off the lobby but was not loud at all. We were on the street side which had some traffic noise but earplugs took care of that. The location is great for touring the central part of Leipzig. Our group took a walking tour which was excellent. We were within a 10 minute walk of plenty of great restaurants and shopping. We also did a lot of shopping in the train station which has just about everything you could want! We ate breakfast and one dinner here and everything was really good.
We stayed in the hotel (not in the hostel, which also operates in the same building). The location is great, and that's pretty much the only good thing about the place. Apart from that, there are several things are are simply bad or even horrible. The entire place has a very annoying smell. The noise level from the street is horrible. The reading lamps next to beds are become quickly so hot that you will burn your fingers. There is no closet. You need to personally get clean towels from the reception every day. Daily cleaning consists of removing trash from your room. Breakfast is below average. The lockers (you cannot store baggage with them, they want you to use paid lockers) are too small for suitcases. And then, the staff. My checking-in experience was the worst in my entire life. Horribly hostile, rude people with no concept of any manners. To be fair, there was ONE staff member (a girl with short black hair) that was human. Please see my other reviews, you will see that I rarely write such critical reviews.
Fine location next to Leipzig Hbf and stately building, but the shared accommodation was just passable. Guy with a cigarette kept the window wide open and smoked sitting on the ledge. Staff were okay, but strangely charged extra and gave a linen set, when it was already there in the bed. For a hostel, vending machine sold water for euros 2.50, when normal hotels have one euro option. Need more phone charging points for 8 bed room.
Simple but clean, very central, helpful staff. I was only there for two days so I was not looking for a lot comfort. If you also look just for a place the sleep when after you discovered Leizig, go there. Wifi was supposed to have 2mbit, which was clearly not the case.
This is an ideal one nighter- basic but convenient. We arrived late on the Ryanair flight from Stansted and were able to relax with a beer in reception, before turning in for the night. The sleep quality was fine but it is very much a youth place so we went elsewhere for breakfast. Be warned, you have to brave the smokers at the front entrance! But the staff were great, the luggage room convenient and it was spotless. We wouldn't have wanted an extended stay, but it suited our needs perfectly.
The hotel was okay, across the road from the station, but this means it is on the main road, which can be very noisy and difficult to sleep through. It was me, my boyfriend, and 3 other girls in the room and on the second night 2 middle aged drunk men walked into our room. One came and rested his head on my bed and started mocking me. He didn't come back later, but the other came back 3 times during the night and when we woke up the next morning he was completely naked on top of his covers!!! The staff should have thought more than to put a middle aged drunk in a room with 4 young girls. Will not be returning.
We were there with a group for the Bach festival. The place is cheap, so don't expect something fancy. Breakfast is in the basement, and it operates as a self in a school. The main problem with the hotel is sleep quality. You need to know that you are sharing the hotel with traveling kids, who can make a lot of noise (I did the same at their age, you can't blame them). There are quieter rooms. The higher the better. The street is very noisy, in particular in the morning. But the rooms facing the back can be noisy too, as some fridge trucks may be parked there, with their cooling system turning on now and then. Don't stay on the ground floor. The quietest appear to be those close to the elevator, on the top floor. It remains a good value for money, close to the center.
Just in front of main station, next to all facilities, this hostel/hotel offers various room configurations.I normally use a single room that is very very basic.bathroom is really small, and curtains are not making your room enough dark, be prepared to wake up when the sun comes up. Personnel is friendly and cleaning is ok. Prices vary from time to time depending on reqiests that for me is a minus.
Our room was for a double room to small! We stayed four nights and had no closet! The bathroom is tiny and you get just one towel per person! If you need fresh ones you need to go to the reception. After the first day out we had to discover that someone went through our stuff!!! Luckily we used lockers at the lobby ( there is a 2€ fee per 24 hrs) for everything valuables. We reported the incidence to the front desk with no solution. The breakfast is good but don't expect extras such as decaffeinated coffee! The staff at the front desk and bar was very friendly and helpful, the kitchen staff not always so friendly. Sure if you need to keep a tight budget it seems tempting to stay here. Also the location is good , right across the train station and tramway. However we won't return to this place.
