Island House Beach Resort3.0 out of 5.0

We visited Island House at the recommendation of a friend and stayed in apartment 18S. It was on the 5th floor with beautiful views of the gulf. It was newly renovated and decorated very nicely. Check in and check out process couldn't have been easier. You have free parking for two vehicles (one covered) and are within a few steps from the beautiful white sand. This complex is conveniently located within walking distance of several restaurants and a short drive to Siesta Key Village. However, there is a free trolley you can take if you don't have a car. Siesta Key Village is full of shops and restaurants with excellent seafood. They do expect you to clean up after yourself within the condo (which isn't unrealistic - we are adults after all). You're a short drive from a local grocery store to stock up on food and other supplies. The condo had a fully equipped kitchen and two sleeping areas with a really pretty sunroom. The only downside to the building is when the wind blew, the windows whistled and the sun was very bright in the bedroom. However, I wasn't there to sleep, I was there to enjoy the sights, so it was okay I didn't sleep in too late. The beach is private and one of the best maintained beaches I've ever been too. Beach chairs are provided and there were always plenty, which was nice to not have to worry about getting there early for a seat and being close to others. Overall, this was an excellent experience and I highly recommend the Island House.
Overall, our stay was nice. We were in Apartment 12S, which provided a beautiful view of the sunset each evening on the lanai. It had hardwood flooring throughout with the exception of the bathrooms that were tiled. The bed in the master bedroom was comfortable. All of the kitchen appliances we used worked fine. The resort provided beach chairs and all we needed to do was help ourselves whenever we wanted to sit on the beach as there were plenty of them available. We also visited the pool a couple of times. The only downside to it is that it's next to the office at the front entrance, so there is some noise from the traffic on the road next to it, but that wasn't a big deal to us. The biggest complaint was the cleanliness or lack thereof in the apartment. When we arrived, there were some places on the furniture that had sand on them, the floors weren't very clean, and some of the dresser drawers in the master bedroom had sand in them. We found a sweeper in one of the closets and were able to use it to clean up, but then also found a used contact lens on the floor in one of the bathrooms when sweeping. All of this leads me to believe the cleaning agency either did not sweep the floors or did a very poor job of it after the last guests departed. Not a huge concern since we had a sweeper available, but for a $75 cleaning fee I expected it to be much cleaner than it was upon arrival. There were also some paint cans and other maintenance items on one of the shelves in the closet near the front door. There was still plenty of space available in the closet to use, but I found it odd those weren't stored in a maintenance area outside of the apartment where guests (particularly kids) would not be able to access them. I would consider staying here again, but if the next visit resulted in the same lack of cleanliness, I would definitely have to consider staying elsewhere.
This was our first time at this property. Our friends stayed here last year, we visited their villa and liked how large it was. I liked the location too as it is the best location on Siesta Key with a private beach access and so there are only guests in front of the hotel. Siesta Key beaches are so beautiful that they can get pretty crowded, never the case in front of his hotel. We stayed on the second floor right on the beach - unit 3N. The apartment was spacious, nice size living room, dining room and decent size kitchen (not something I care about on a vacation). The kitchen really had everything one would need when cooking a simple meal on a vacation. Mainly it had a large fridge and a shared laundry room in the hallway of the kitchen. Living room and kitchen overlooked the beach. The balcony was screened in and it was large. We were able to slide the windows on the balcony open to enjoy the view and breezes. There was a folding clothes dryer for bathing suits and towels - nice touch. Furniture inside was in a good shape, kind of beachy themed which is expected with a pull out sofa in the living room. Bedrooms were spacious with nice furniture and plenty of closet space and the beds were comfortable, there was extra bedding and blankets in the closets too. Bathrooms were newly renovated with nice tile and glass shower doors. Nice floors as well all over the place. We truly enjoyed our stay at this unit - 3N. Beach - amazing, softest white sand. There are plenty of beach chairs and beds. Not much shade but our unit had a beach umbrella that we were able to use (also sand toys). You can also rent an umbrella from a local company and they will come in the am and set it up. I rented them in the past. Parking- unit comes with 2 parking spaces Staff- amazing, super helpful and nice. Very laid-back too. Pool - small but fun for the kids. There is no area for small kids. Pretty deep. There is a club house with a pool table and air hockey which were also fun for the kids. The best sunsets! Make sure you are back from dinner or don't leave before one. One con: teenagers on the beach shooting fireworks till midnight.
We really like the location of Island House. We stay in one of the apartments with a balcony directly overlooking the beach. When you get to the ground floor and turn left, you are on the beach and a short distance from the water. The apartment (8N) is clean and roomy, with two bedrooms, 4 twin beds, two full baths, a large living room, large balcony, large and well-equipped kitchen, access to laundry (shared with one other apartment) and three television sets. You can call a free shuttle that will pick you up at your unit for tips only (although we usually have two cars and have not used the shuttle). We love walking on the beautiful white sand beach and are in walking distance to both the shopping center with a grocery store and several restaurants and the town itself (though this is a longer walk). We have never been bothered by any other guests and have never heard loud talking or other noise-making. Both of our bedrooms are quiet and comfortable. We "girls" are very fond of the place.
The “resort” (hardly what I would consider a “resort” in the true sense of the word) is comprised of 4 buildings (all of which are 4-5 stories in height) and then about 4 rows of small apartment type houses (about 50 total). It was dirty, loud and even a bit sketchy. Many of the guests, most of whom didn't speak English (except when using the "F" word) were loud and disrespectful of other travelers. One night I counted the repetitive use of the "f" word a total of 19 times by some guest out on the property. Yes there were kids around, but nobody seemed to care because I think these kids, based on the language I heard them use, seemed to be accustomed to this behavior.. Aside from the language, the outside gathering areas for this resort were filthy. The garbage cans were spilling over with trash, and there were broken bottles and litter lying around the property. Our particular building, which was set further away from the beach, was fine. The elevator, although extremely small, was operational. And given that each floor only contained 2 condos (meaning that there were only 10 condos in the entire building), the wait for an elevator was never too long. Our condo itself (15 south) was huge. But, the owners would be better served to turn the additional family room into a second bedroom. As of current, there is only one bedroom with a King bed. There is a small pull out couch in the second family (this room does have an accordion type vinyl folding door that separates it from the larger living area), but this couch couldn't fit more than one average sized person or perhaps two really skinny adults (or kids). So basically, the condo isn't outfitted for more than a few guests. As for the furniture, it is definitely old, worn and outdated. This condo could definitely use a complete overhaul, and not to mention, also a deep cleaning. It was filthy. The fridge, although somewhat clean on the inside, looked as though someone had thrown up on the outside. The doors were disgustingly dirty and covered in orange and brown specks. I was appalled that they would leave it in that condition! Besides this, the kitchen was crawling with little sugar ants. It was so bad that we decided against cooking in the kitchen. We opted for dining out for our meals (which sort of defeats the point of booking a condo with a kitchen). The walls at the windows of this condo must be paper thin. I could hear the people above us- as it sounded like they were moving furniture around all night long. And I could hear all of the outside noises, even with our windows closed. There were several electrical outlets that didn't work, namely the ones near the bed that we needed the most. The washer and dryer was outside and shared with the neighbors. Which was fine, but a little weird. Needless to say, this place was NOT what we were expecting, especially for the price, nor was it cozy. .
If you want to enjoy the best beach on this earth, you found it. The best place to relax, so much so that we are going back this year again. The condo units are so spacious, they accommodate 6 easily. This place is awesome....You won't regret staying there.
Island House is located in Siesta key, which is the # 1 Beach in USA.These place for a family vacation, very nice villas, many are full remodeling and updated. Recommend for a nice family's vacation. Price range $$$ but is it worth it.
Stayed here in Oct of 2016. Great location with private beach. The condo was clean and provided everything that was needed. The price was great for Oct. The water was very warm still. The kids did spend a little time in the pool and the game room but mostly the beach. Did i mention the beach was extremely well maintained and quiet?
We have stayed at Island House for a week every year for nearly 10 years now. Overall it's a lovely place and nicely kept. The reason I give the property only an average rating is because we travel with my mother, who has to use a wheelchair most of the time. The challenge is that none of the villas or condos seem to be very handicap accessible. By that I mean even though there is an elevator to take you up to the upper floor condos, once you are inside the condo, the bathrooms are inaccessible. The doorways to the bathrooms are not wide enough to get her wheelchair through while she is sitting in it. And there are no grab bars on the walls. We have stayed in 1N and most recently in 4S, and have the same issue in both condos. And to get to either bathroom in 4S you have to go through either the master bedroom or the second bathroom. The sleeper sofa is very uncomfortable, and the only way to sleep on it was to sleep across the mattress, because of the bars that could be felt through the mattress. The mattresses on the twin beds in the guest bedroom were very uncomfortable as well. Having said all that, both 1N and 4S are lovely units, and the location is great. If Island House could correct the sleeper sofa issues, mattress issues, and enable my mother to get her wheelchair through all the doorways in the condo, I'd give it a 5 star rating!
The Island House was a perfect place for a family vacation including our grown children and grandchildren. We knew the beauty of Siesta Beach, but to be able to stay right on it and look at it from the porch/lanai was really special. We rented 2 villas on the 2nd floor. Both had beach views, especially 11N. Both were well furnished and equipped. Since we shared an outside 'lobby' the kids could go back in forth. We also enjoyed shuffleboard and the pool when it was too windy at the beach. We will definitely go back, either with family or friends. GREAT PLACE!!
