The Hotel is located right next to the only Island motorway so it's a good location to move around. It's about a 20 min walk to the center of Ponta Delgada. Rooms are nice and breakfast is great. All in all a good experience but the pool on the top floor was closed and the sauna in the basement not very hot.
The facilities for a 4 star hotel are there: congress center, spa, gym, etc. But the maintenance and hygiene are very poor. Roaches, profuse quantities of hair on the chairs, stained towels in the congress center. Dirty, old carpets on the room and water leakage on the bathroom. There is mold in the spa pool, mold in the jacuzzi and mold in the steam sauna. The worst is definitely the spa pool. The kids were playing and splashing when several roaches starting coming out of deck around the pool. We complained in the official complaint book and it was rather disappointing to be met we zero reaction from the staff. Not even an apology from management.
Loved the place. My husband and I thought the Azores were one of the most beautiful places in the world. There are not so many tourists there compared to other places. You will love it. We were able to walk to the beach and many of the restaurants and sites. We were surprised to learn that the Azores have volcanoes and natural warm waters. The Botanical Garden was gorgeous.
The hotel is quite big, in a nice neighbourhood, close to a supermarket but a bit far from the city centre. Rooms are quite good and wifi is free. Yet, staff is unprofessional, rude and helpless. At the front desk, everything is difficult. They know very little about public transportation and everything is extremely difficult for them. I tried to get some information about local buses and the answer was 'I have no idea' and when I insisted on the topic and suggested that they could go online or give the bus company a call, the answer was 'It might be closed'. And after this kind of sentences, they just ignore the customer. When I asked where the city centre was, the answer was just go along the street and then you can ask someone. Surprising but they are unable to give you any kind of information. It's unbelievable. The hotel needs maintenance urgently. The indoor pool was dirty, sauna wasn't hot at all and the Jacuzzi was broken. It seemed that these facilities weren't taken care for quite a long time. I wouldn't recommend this hotel at all. It was a bad experience and I am sure you can find much better in Ponta Delgada.
The room was adequate but in need of updating. Mattress was certainly not that comfortable Breakfast was the worst hotel breakfast i think i have ever had . I an island famed for its agricultural produce , scrambled eggs made from powdered eggs. Fruit juice made from concentrate and water in a machine. . Fresh fruit only two types of melon . Coffee out of a machine and no espresso available Staff were quite friendly . Reception seemed to take for ever and checkout was even worse, And i had t ask for a receipt. For such a lovely Island i am sure there are many many better hotels. It gave me the impression of being a cheap conference venue
My wife and I spent 3 nights here and then 3 nights in Sao Roque. It's an 8 euro taxi from the airport. Check in was predictably slow (I've been living in Portugal for 7 months and understand that here the relationship is more important than the transaction, the human touch valued over business efficiency...and so the locals like to talk and take their time getting to know a customer - exactly what was happening with the chap and check-in lady in front of us). Fortunately we'd arrived minutes before a Spanish tour group, 20 strong, and therefore we only needed to wait 10 minutes to be seen to by the only person on the desk. Room was basic but fine, usual paper thin walls typical of most Portuguese construction so we could hear our neighbour snoring softly in the night. Nice bathroom, good bath to soak in. Decent flat screen TV. Nothing fancy. They have a small heated pool, a sauna, and a turkish bath, but I didn't use them. They also have a gym, onsite tour agency, and a pleasant enough cafe / bar. Around 15 mins walk (downhill!) to the marina area and the main strip. We didn't have breakfast with our rate, but got a fantastic breakfast each morning from a little panadaria on the way down, including a coffee, for less than 5 euros each. I'd also recommend the coffee at Delkabukes on the main strip - best in town if you're tired of rocket-fuel strength pocket rocket sized coffees from the cafes and want something a bit milkier....a bit Starbuckish. Get a taxi back for 5 euros from town if you're tired. It's a long walk in the night. The area looks rough, but it's safe enough...we walked back most evenings. All in all it was fine. Would be better if it was closer to town, but if you don't mind a walk, and you just want a clean and bright and rather charmless business hotel to bed down in, and you like the words 'VIP' and 'Executive'...then it's absolutely fine for a short stay.
This hotel is 20 minutes away (walking) from the center of Ponta Delgada. Very comfortable, staff extremely kind. Internet works well in the room. Parking is free and abundant. Clean and economically accessible for a 4*. Nelia Marques was kind and helpful when we needed some attention. We recommend this hotel and would stay there again without hesitation!
i stayed in this hotel because of a cancelled flight. the "health club", had most of the machines broken, the pool was freezing, the sauna and jacuzzi didn't work. back in the room the bath tub leaked into the rest of the room. another persor in my party found coacroaches in their room. the staff was very unfriendly and although everything was supposed to be included, we were separated from the rest of the guest to eat a sample of what the dinner offer was. breakfast was an absolute joke, dry food, the worst coffee i've ever tasted was served and if you wanted an expresso...you had to pay extra. After this stay calling this a VIP hotel almost seems like a joke.
This hotel is huge and depending on how busy they happen to be, the services are not so great. The bed was hard as a rock with smelly pillows and the carpet in the room needed a deep cleaning - maybe DOUBLE deep cleaning. I woke up with a headache every morning. It's been some time since I stayed in a "carpeted" hotel room - never again as this rug was filthy! I had dinner in the restaurant one evening because it was convenient and the food was really terrible - you are a 15 to 30 minute walk from other restaurants.
Stayed here on a business trip for a few days. Nice, spacious rooms, though they are getting to a point where refurbishment may be a good option. Room was clean and had all the basic facilities. Friendly and helpful staff, location OK but too far from airport to be a 'airport hotel' and too far from the beachfront for tourists maybe? Would return if coming back to the Azores on business... Wifi rather slow.
