I wasn't sure about this hotel after reading reviews on here, Googling pictures and other searches but decided to take a chance. Was very reasonably priced considering we paid €139 for a Deluxe Double Room with a Sea-View so I was excited to finally get there. The hotel offers free car-parking which is very convenient and the driveway up to the hotel gives off a very exclusive feeling. The hotel is celebrating its centenary this year and given the feel, the look, the décor and the overall furnishing, I don't think it has been renovated since 1917! Normally this would completely put me off a hotel but for some reason, it completely endeared me. The staff were extremely helpful and attentive upon check-in and I must say, I do love the old-fashioned actual room key which was on offer at this hotel. The bar, lobby, reception area and sun-room really are in serious need of restoration but I don't think this is harming their business. An incredible old-school style elevator took us to our deluxe sea-view room on the 4th floor. Again, the décor was seriously out of date but charming enough to make this hotel work. A lovely large bathroom with double-sink, toilet, bidet, and bath with fabulous shower lead into a wonderfully large bedroom with old-school furniture including wardrobe, writing desk and seating area. The large king-size bed was also very comfortable. The carpet in our room was extremely stained and could certainly do with a cleaning! The winner here though is the the view of the Bay of Santander. Sunrise was a particularly exceptional experience and would highly recommend a sea-view room just for this alone. Breakfast was not included in the price of the room but at €26pp, we certainly did not want to see what was on offer as we felt this to be incredibly expensive. But then we remembered that were in fact staying in a 5 star hotel. The bar did serve the best Mojito I have ever tasted and at €10 a pop, though a tad pricey, they were extremely worth it. As much as I wanted the old-school charm of this hotel to win me over, I do feel a restoration would make this an incredible hotel but saying that, it is the only fault that I have with it. it is just too old fashioned for my liking but it was an overall a lovely stay!

We stayed here for two nights before returning home. Our room was comfortable and spacious with all we needed except for what has now become my standard complaint about shocking wifi in Spanish hotel rooms. Our room was probably as far from the router it was possible to be. If there were a few repeaters it would be fine as in the lounge and on the terrace it was fine. The terrace is definitely the place to sit for a beer and a view. Service from the bar staff was great and very friendly as were those on reception. The hotel is about a 30 minute walk to the town centre where you can find some lovely places to eat. They are not hard to find if you do a bit of research so previous posts saying Santander had nowhere good to eat are misleading. If you can't face the walk a taxi fare from the centre was about €4 so it won't break the bank. We found the hotel menu uninspiring and ended up with a barely palatable sandwich from room service because we arrived after a gruelling all day drive and were too tired to go out. The following day we are in town which was really good and got a taxi back. The beach is only a 10 minute walk down the hill and is lovely so this hotel is perfectly situated. Despite the hotel menu issue our stay here was great and we would definitely stay again

A gem on the hilltop overlooking the bay of Santander. This is a member of the Leading Hotels of the World club. Attentive concierge provides a welcome into the mahogany and glass lobby. Classic lounges in blue and gilt swagged decor stretch out onto a pristine white terrace with rattan chairs overlooking trimmed gardens and the bay. A smaller, cosier chintz lounge with bar offers morning coffee or tea. It is used by locals and the staff appreciated limited Spanish. It feels how old Spain should. Dining room looked equally nostalgic and a covered patio seemed to offer blue and white decor for functions or weddings. A five minute drive by taxi from the port. Keep the secret!

We were planning a trip to Portugal and Spain by car and realised that we could stay at this hotel again on my husband's birthday. We booked a sea view room , always worth it, and the size of the room and storage cannot be better. The staff are helpful and friendly and both dinner and breakfast were excellent.

We had the most beautiful view with a small balcony. The room and bathroom were spacious. Very clean. We visited the bar, the drinks are prepare at your table/bar right in front of you. Great service all around! Very highly recommend this hotel. Only 3 min away from Palacio de la Magdalena, this is a must for sightseeing.

A little too far for beach if you have buggy's and young ones or are disabled. ok on the way there but quite steep on your return. A short drive away is a lovely clean beach easy parking depending on the time of year of course. The hotel was good but could do with updating down side no pool. The food was good large portions but pricey. Can be quite noisy at weekends as they have a lot of weddings.

Stayed for two nights at the end of our holiday before catching the ferry to Plymouth. Architecturally stunning but many aspects were tired, dated and in need of refurbishment. Our room was large and comfortable with excellent quality sheets and mattresses. Other room furniture and furnishings were grubby and should have been replaced years ago. Carpets throughout are also grubby, overly thick and hazardous in places. The breakfast however was wonderful and plentiful. Full up here as drinks and snacks throughout the day are very expensive indeed.

We stayed here twice in the last few years- both stays for 1 night . The hotel is located in a nice area of the city. It is an old classic luxury hotel with good sized room and excellent sea views. Service is good. In particular I recomend to try G&T prepared by Sabino at the hotel bar. Great experience. We would certainly come back.

Stayed at the Hotel Real for two nights in early July. The most obvious thing was how few people were staying there. The staff were friendly but in such a large and quiet hotel it really lacked atmosphere. The room was fine, not 5 star standard and was dated especially the bathroom

Hotel is stylish with lots of tradition, big sitting areas & restaurant space, set high on the hill overlooking the sea. Our bedroom was not huge, double bed and seat lacked springs and room was not sound proof. Large ensuite area. Only had views of carpark so recommend getting room with sea view. Downhill to ocean, with lots of nice walking areas.
