We decided to stay in Comillas for just one night. Hotel Golf was very quiet during our stay. Rooms were very large. We had a drink from the bar but drank it in the lobby as the bar was just a few tables on the edge of a large dining room. Plenty parking there. Town is about 10 mins walk from the hotel and fairly hilly walk back to the hotel.
First the bad points. We booked a romantic two night stay which included a gift and a bottle of champagne on arrival and a double bed. We eventually got the champagne and gift on the evening before we left - and we were in two single beds! Now the good points The staff were generally excellent and most of them spoke good English. Even if they didn't it was good fun trying to make ourselves understood and ultimately if we are in Spain surely the onus should be on us to speak their language, not the other way around! The room was quite big, very comfortable and clean and overlooked the golf course with the sea in the distance. We used the pool, spa (a bit chilly) and sauna (nice, but as it was situated in the changing room couldn't be used jointly with the wife). The food was excellent and although the menu was in Spanish on the first night a member of staff kindly translated. On the second night the waitress did two copies of the menu, one in both Spanish and English! All in all we enjoyed our time at Abba Comillas and would undoubtedly visit again, but please ensure that staff are aware and understand any special deals that are advertized
Rooms are similar to a Premier Inn and not what I expected from a 4 star hotel. It does have a pool but you have to buy a swimming cap from reception before you can use it and if you want a towel you have to pay again to rent one! Even the small bottles of water in the room are charged for. After paying 170 euros a night I expect these things to be complementary. Breakfast is ok but not great. On the plus side the reception staff were excellent and very helpful. Had it been 70 euros a night it would have been good, but I expect more for 170 euros.
Spending three nights here, we were delighted to find that we had a room overlooking the golf course, with a long terrace leading to a sea view in the far distance. The Wifi was excellent in our room (which was on the first floor - the same as the main reception). The bedroom was clean and spacious, with much needed air conditioning. But, the bedrooms were not terribly sound-proofed, as we heard our neighbours (either next door or above) on several occasions. Disappointingly, the swimming pool doesn't open until 9am - which is much later than I'd have liked (and meant I didn't get to use the facilities for a pre-breakfast swim, as we headed out for the day mid-morning). Breakfast was in the large dining room. I take breakfast on my own, as my partner doesn't eat breakfast. So I was delighted to find a good choice of food, including fresh fruit, meat, yoghurt and pastries. Really pretty good. But, you need to be able to speak a little Spanish, as the waitresses/waiters don't speak much English. They are very friendly however. But.....it was the atmosphere (noise) around breakfast time that I didn't really enjoy. The hotel accommodates groups of people who naturally take over a large part of the dining room, with the obvious noise and disruption you'd expect from group bookings. During our three night stay there was one large group of adults for two breakfasts, followed by a larger group of school children for the third breakfast. As you might imagine, the dining room was extremely noisy and chaotic during the children's breakfast - more like a school playground - and not the relaxing start to the day you'd expect from a four star hotel. It was clearly not a desirable atmosphere for independent guests; yet no alternative location for breakfast was offered. It was only when I finished my breakfast and went onto the hotel patio to clear my head from the rowdy noise of the children that the hotel receptionist came out to apologise. Somewhat too late I'm afraid. At least the children left soon after breakfast..... We'd certainly recommend this hotel as a good place to stay - with a 15 minute walk into town. Free parking outside, and lovely spacious seating areas to enjoy on each floor. But, if you do experience coach loads of guests at breakfast time, I'd urge you to ask for your breakfast to be served on the hotel patio! Enjoy the view of the golf course, rather than trying to plug your ears from the rowdiness of others! Call me unsociable... but when I'm on holiday, I like to chill out!
We stayed here recently on our trip to Northern Spain. The hotel is a good facility to accommodate groups and is located about 8 minutes walking to the main section of town. It is also about a 10 minute walk in the other direction to the beach. The rooms were large and clean. I was surprised that our towels didn't get changed out despite me placing them on the floor. But they brought more up upon my request. We had a lovely balcony overlooking parts of the golf course and sheep in the distance. I would recommend asking for a room that faces that direction rather than over the parking lot. The food was just ok. I'd say breakfast was fine, not great. The two dinners we had there (included in our package) were pretty lame for Spain -- really nothing to write home about. The internet in the room didn't work very well but there was a strong signal near the reception area if you didn't mind coming downstairs. Restaurant had a nice bar if you like to enjoy a cocktail in the evening. All in all I would probably recommend staying closer to the beach unless golfing was your thing.
We were there as a group for two nights on June while a trip to the north of Spain - in Comillas . The place is very fine – you can see the snow on the top of the mountains from one side, and ships in the sea – on the other side. It's a little far from the town. It's very good choice for groups. There is wide fine place for meeting for all of us, so we could meet for discussion and singing on the evening. The room was clean, hospitality and fine but because the sloping ceiling which formed a triangle of a part of it – you must remember to crouch for saving your head from an unexpected strike. There are no curtains so you have to wake up together with the sun. The towels were wonderful! There were no tea/coffee accessories and as for me – I didn't like it. The dining room is very fine and inviting and the food was varied and tasty. It's very good place for groups and not only for groups.
Having read some reports I was concerned as I had arranged for some colleagues to stay at this hotel and some of them are very picky. The staff were friendly and the rooms we had excellent, good views and a pleasant balcony. The picky ones said that it was much better than they had expected for the price we had paid. Instead of the grumpy faces I often get, it was smiles all around. Breakfast was more than adequate although on one day it was pre-plated and not a buffett there were still no complaints, as we understood that we were probably the only guests in that night. Yes agreed the rooms could do with a bit more sound proofing but they were large, airy and clean, the bathroom not massive but adequate. Ask at reception for a local taxi 4 euros or walk for ten minutes into the town which has a lot going for it. For high handicappers the little golf course is fine, not too long with narrow fairways and the men who were looking after it were extremely friendly and helpful. Any one who wants to (and can) drill high shots onto receiving greens would probably be best playing elsewhere, but for friendly fun and relaxation and new starters it fits the bill. It is certainly not a flat jaunt, in fact quite hilly. There are large courses within driving distance, if it is a championship challenge you are after.
We arrived with grouop 22 persons. According to holtel descroption we can have free internet WiFi connection from public zone of hotel But this is not true!!!!! We stayed at the Hotel Golf Ravacias for two nights on a Brittany Ferries deal combining the trip with two nights in Cosgaya. We wanted to stay in Comillas as a base for exploring the coast and beaches and settled for the hotel as it was the only one available in that area. The location and look of the building are a bit off putting as the hotel is on the edge of a characterless urban development, especially when there are so many beutiful stone buildings around. But once inside the hotel we found it had good amenieties and the rooms are huge. It is actually a smaller than we expected and did not appear to be full of golfers which is what we had expected. We were originally allocated a downstairs room with terrace but this turned out to be next to the entrance overlooking (and overlooked by) the car park with anyone able to step over a low hedge and into the room if you left the door open. So we upgraded (10 euros a night) to a sea view and had a terrace overlooking the golf course and sea. The room has air conditioning but you can open a door to the terrace. All the rooms are twin bedded and we found ours a bit hard. Bedlinen and towels were good quality and we had a safe but not tea/coffee making facilities. The bathroom was big and well equiped with a good shower. The terrace had a table and chairs. The area was quiet (dogs and farm noise mainly) although we had one night disturbed with a fire alarm going off twice (nothing more serious than an exploding fridge apparently). Guests can use a lovely indoor swimming pool and gym - we used the pool and each time had it to ourselves. The hotel's big weakness was breakast which was just about OK. Few staff spoke English and during the fire alarm episode we were dependent on a German guest for translation. We didn't try the restaurant or bar but it's a short walk into town for dinner and would recommend Fillipinas at the main cross roads. The famous Gaudi restaurant is closed down which was disappointing. It took a while to negotiate Comillas' less than obvious one way system in the car but the hotel is signposted at most of the main junctions. One advantage of the hotel is the parking - which can be a problem in all the town and village centre hotels in this area - and the size and quality of the rooms. There is also free WiFi for guests. It is well located for exploring the Cantabrian coast and very close to the beach in Comillas.
Recomendable 100%
