Dutjiya Mang - Private cottage
Dutjiya Mang means 'rest here' in Dja Dja Wurrung.
Inside the cedar wood cottage, timber-lined walls and vaulted ceilings add a sense of space to the cosy lounge and queen-sized bedroom. A well stocked kitchenette with ethically sourced goodies, has everything you need for a night in, or lazy breakfast in bed. Step out and enjoy a barbecue on one of two secluded decks, or sit around the fire pit in the garden.
You will have exclusive, undisturbed use of Dutjiya Mang. However, the cottage also shares 1.8 acres with another property. It is approximately 50 metres away and separated by tall eucalypts that add to the sense of seclusion. You are welcome to explore the shared gardens.
Whilst the cottage sleeps 4 (1 queen bed, 1 double sofa bed, plus cot or single floor mattress on request), it is most comfortable for 2 adults ( or 2 adults and small children), as indoor seating space is limited. We can also set up additional tents and bedding can be set up in the garden if you have a larger group.
Bedroom - Queen-bed - Wool and hypoallergenic bedding and pillows, luxury cotton sheets (We believe life is too short to press and starch sheets, but you will find the comfiest, softest cotton bedding - cool or cosy depending on the season!) - Wardrobe and hanging space - Heater or fan (seasonal) - Spare blankets - Iron and ironing board - Hairdryer - Hot water bottle - Travel cot available on request
Living room - Sofa/double sofa bed - Coffee table - TV, DVD player and Chromecast (to watch Netflix etc from your own device) - Selection of DVDs - Range of board games - Range of books (and a 'take one, leave one' little library on selected paperbacks (above the sofa) - Split system, heating and cooling (that heats/cools the whole cottage) - Excellent WiFi
Kitchenette - Breakfast bar - Fridge - Microwave - Sink - Kettle, toaster, milk frother - Full stock of kitchen utensils, dinnerware and glasses - Range of condiments, tea, coffee, hot chocolate - plus some welcome treats!
Outdoor 'camp' kitchen - Barbecue (gas) - Two-burner gas stove - Pots and pan - Jaffle iron
Outside space - Two private, secluded balconies - Outdoor seating and shade umbrella - Chiminea Fire (with additional barbecue grill) - Little herb garden - Shared garden (but with your own undisturbed use of your corner)
Bathroom - Shower - Toilet - Sink and vanity - Natural, packaging-free shampoo, conditioner and soap - Towels
Welcome gift and supplies - Complimentary bottle of wine or non-alcoholic drinks (as you prefer) - Complimentary milk and butter (or plant-based alternatives)
Dutjiya Mang is secluded and private, but is situated just off the Newstead-Creswick Road for convenient access to the region. There is some traffic noise and neighbours - but there's also lots of bird song, and at night you'll be listening out for the resident Barking Owls!
Please note that we have chickens and quails in an enclosed pen, who you are welcome to visit. But if you have dogs who will be very interested in the birds or capable of breaking into the pen, please keep them supervised at all times to avoid scaring or harming the birds.
Bees are also kept on the property so please act accordingly when you or pets are near the hive, especially if you are at risk of anaphylaxis.
Wildlife that has been seen from the property includes: - Echidna (who we believe lives under the cottage) - Kangaroos - Barking owls (heard frequently, seen rarely - one of only 50 known breeding pairs in Victoria) - Welcome swallows - Musk lorikeets - Peaceful doves - Willy wagtails - Superb fairy wrens - Grey shrike-thrushes - White-plumed honey eaters - Bell miner - Crimson rosellas - Red-rumped parrots - Sulphur-crested cockatoos - Rainbow lorikeets - Kookaburras - Magpies - Galahs - Long-billed corellas - Brown thornbills - And many more we don't yet know the name of... We'd love to hear what you see!
The cottage is air-conditioned and features a kitchen and a patio, and there's space to spread out with a separate bedroom. Guests can expect to find free WiFi and a TV with a DVD player. Other standard amenities include an electric kettle and an ironing board.

Charming Sandon VIC
Lovely area between Newstead and Yandoit--explored hiking through back roads and forest. Unique in that Sandon is peaceful and undeveloped except for traffic on the Newstead Road, unfortunately affecting most towns now.
If you are looking for land in a lovely peaceful setting this is for you--only 30 minute drive from the thriving groovy town of Daylesford.
Hosts were excellent.

Great location, great hosts
Really enjoyed the property and the location - we were attending a wedding nearby and couldn't have gotten any closer! Check in was super easy and the hot choc waiting for us was a lovely touch. I found Red to be incredibly responsive and understanding, and thank them for the experience.

Excellent little home away.
My partner, Dog and I both enjoyed our stay.
It is a lovely little cabin with nice amenities, situated on a peaceful pet friendly property. We both enjoyed the resourceful theme of the property utilising environmentally friendly and resources found on and around the property.
We also have discovered a fond taste for a new type of ketchup 😌
Red and Patrick were great hosts, great communication, very polite and friendly.
Also thankyou again for the gift for my partner's belated birthday.
Will recommend to anyone and happy to return again.
