I received a quote from Bahia Del Sol Villas & Condominiums through Expedia for a group of 30 graduate students. They were 1 of 2 locations to respond to our quote. It is tough to find a large occupancy location for a group of 30 people on only 2 months notice but Bahia del Sol was there to save me (as the trip planner). Communications with Mariela at the office was very personalized. She handled all our booking information, questions, and helped us book restaurants and excursions for our group prior to our stay, which is helpful given challenges in international communication and myself not fully understanding the local businesses in the area. We communicated via WhatsApp and it was very easy to ask questions this way. We stayed in 6 of the 9 villas they have available and all 6 were located together in one part of property. They had patios, terraces in the master bedroom, and some had nice views of the SJDS bay. Air conditioning is available in the rooms which was nice and kept them cool, but the downstairs kitchen and common area can get quite hot even with the ceiling fan. Like many central american hotels, we noticed lots of ants around entryways. The villas are close enough to walk to the city (~20 minutes) but it is through muddy, unpaved streets in a residential area. After a couple of days there we felt safe walking through this area during the daytime but it may seem a little daunting or uncomfortable the first time or alone as you'll be passed by lots of locals in trucks and bikes who may give you a glance as they go about their way. Note that the pedestrian bridge that connects this residential area to the north side of SJDS town is no longer there and the way to the town is blocked by water during high tide. A resident may be ferrying people with a boat (pulling the boat by hand along a rope) across the 50 foot waterway (it's more like crossing a stream). During low tide, you can enter the town by walking over the beach as the stream is subsided. Don't feel like doing this? Arrange for taxi or try for an uber. Lastly, the villas has a security guard at night who watches the property. Reception staff speak good english or will find someone who does. Anything you want or need, they can hook you up. Overall, the villas suited our needs by offering large, safe, air-conditioned accommodation near town at inexpensive price point.
Wife and I decided to check out SJDS. Very relaxing place indeed. We came the week after the hurricane and there was extensive damage to the restaurants on the beach. The villa's themselves are very nice with plenty of room. The villa did have a bit of a musty smell when we first arrived, but the A/C running took care of it. The property is a bit off the beaten path, but the staff was wonderful and will even go shopping for you. We like to hike around and walked to the city everyday....very safe during daylight hours. The view's are amazing from the deck off the master bedroom of the bay and the statue of Jesus. Very good experience.
Awesome place !! We were really happy to stay in this place, I can't wait for next vacation to be here again and the beaches around the area was gorgeous!! Very clean and everything that you need is there
We had a total of 15 people (2 toddlers included) in our party and we were well accommodated with two 3 bedroom villas side by side. One of our villas had a view of the beach but the other did not since there are new condos being built across the street. I would book early and ask for the villas that are on the higher level. Overall we had a great stay. The pool was amazing and the water was warm. The full kitchen is a huge help when traveling with a large group since restaurants in San Juan del Sur are expensive. We did get a 10% discount for Vivian Restaurant from the hotel and we used it the first night. They also gave us 10% at Timon, but we didn't go. I would definitely stay here again.
It was a pretty great place to stay, great attention and lovely hospitality. I will recommend it to all my friends and family who are visiting Nicaragua. I went to Bahia del Sol in a family trip with my brothers and sisters and we all enjoyed the view from the house and the pool.
I stayed with my family. The villa is amazing. Great location and the view is espectacular. The villa was clean and it has everything you need. Jose Luis, Mariela, Martha and the cleaning staff that I forgot their (sorry). They were all very helpful and professional. This is the best place to stay
We came as family and spend a good time, did a lot cooking, enjoyed attractions nearby, walking on the beach, swimming, hiking, bought fresh seafood and warm bread. I can not think of a better spot , the accomodations were wonderful.
We traveled to SJDS with my parents for 2 nights while they were visiting and we were looking for a place that would be comfortable enough for them, but affordable enough for everyone. BDS is the perfect combination of comfort, affordability, and Nicaraguan charm, all set a couple minutes from the center of SJDS and the surrounding beaches. The condo is 2 stories with central a/c in the bedrooms. The a/c made its way through the rest of the house quite nicely and was comfortable for my parents who are not used to being in the heat without a/c. The kitchen is fully equipped and ready to host 6 people. We cooked a couple meals during our stay and had everything we needed to do so. The only negative observation I have about the condo or suggestion for management is in regards to the shower. The shower itself was great with awesome pressure, but it leaks into the rest of the bathroom because there is nothing blocking it on the floor. A small raise in the tile needs to be placed or the pressure needs to be turned down. It is a pretty bathroom but I feel like it could have been set up a little better to avoid that issue. The view from the condo was breathtaking as you could see the entire bay and the Christ statue. The staff was welcoming and helpful during our stay and never invaded our privacy unless prompted. We are thankful for our time at BDS and we will be back at some point in the future with friends or more family. Thank you for a great time BDS!
This place is amazing the villas are very well kept and just stunning. Everyone is very helpful and it's super safe. I recommend if you visit San juan deal Sur stay here. Definitely got my money's worth and you will too
The Condo was well equipped, clean and in very good condition. Overall is a good option in San Juan del Sur. It is close to the town and to the beach in a good location. The staff is caring and provides a very good service.
