I first stayed in this hotel on my first visit to Gran Canaria in 1985. I now live on the island. We stayed in room 510 which has been completely refurbished. The interior of the public areas however do need updating. Staff pleasant. Breakfast buffet was adequate and fresh. Centrally located Would visit again.

Hotel very close to bus from airport and to other locations on the island so very useful if not wanting to hire a car. Staff very efficient at reception and also in restaurant. Although the rooms may be viewed as rather old fashioned, they were large with both a small cooking area and also a separate bedroom so more like an apartment which was pleasing. All rooms have a view over the pool and can get a good amount of sunshine during the day. Food in the restaurant perhaps aimed at the German and Scandinavian guests but was, nevertheless fine overall. House wine is very good.

Rooms are in desperate need of updating, our door only opened half way, air con is pre-set to 23º, can't be adjusted. The pool floor is very dirty, they have white washed rocks around pool, but under the water line, this is all chipping off, leaving very sharp edges sticking out into water. Pool bar whilst is adequate, is often abandoned for 30-45 minutes whilst staff wander off, to obtain ice and fruit, and as only 1 is on duty at a time, means you can't get a drink during that time. Pool bar is only bar that was opened during our stay, closes at 10.00pm every night. Staff try hard to please, but don't expect a great welcome after 10.00pm if your flight is delayed. Food is very Bland, often food served the previous day, is served again at next meal if there is plenty left, we went All Inclusive, better to go self Catering, and eat out. Not the cheapest around, and definitely not the greatest, avoid.

On arrival they was no one to welcome us. There was one man at the reception. He was booking in people plus serving other holiday makers. We had a bit of a wait to get our room key. There was no direction on facilities. No information on where anything was. Think he was far to busy with other guests. We finally got to our room. It was hot no air con (was broken). We booked a double room got a twin room. Asked the reception man about the air con. Ok he said will get some one to fix it. 3 days later still no air con. Complained again. It's broken will be fixed tomorrow. Still no air con funny how it all works perfect in the restaurant lobby and reception areas. Such a shame as will not come here again. This hotel could be so better with a few small changes like more staff. Staff who speak English. The food is really lovely apart from it's not labeled very well. No allagy advice. Nothing apart from the hot food is labeled well. Fish was labeled pumpkin. The pool area is very nice. Entertainment is it's nothing special. TV only one English channel with is the news. No kettle just a pan to boil water. Am so disappointed. One good thing is Jeanette the trip lady. So informative she is so helpful. Not just for the trips but anything you need to know about the island. She gives 100%. Evan have her number in case we needed her advice.

I visited this hotel for a short trip ( 4 ) days, and after reading the reviews I was not sure how it was going to be, the hotel is ment to look dated but it is clean and the dining area and rooms are modern and the you will always find something to eat. If you are a fuss pot then you will find something to complain about but I cant complain. All good. 4⭐ out of 5⭐ from me.

This hotel is a very dated hotel which may have been a 3star rating in the 80's but nowhere near 3 stars in 2019. It has a medieval theme which tries to work but really doesn't. As soon as you enter the place has a dusty and old smell to it . As we arrived for our 1 week stay at this hotel, we were left by the reception staff to main for a VERY long time, despite the guy at the desk seeing as standing their waiting to check in, found this extremely rude and not the welcoming you deserve when you PAY to stay at a hotel. WIFI: you need to pay for this service ( IT IS NOT FREE) and even when you pay the internet is not very good Air conditioning: non-existence, you're capped at 23 degrees Celsius, in the rooms you are provided with a fan (very old fashioned) Rooms: the rooms are again very dated, with creepy paintings. The rooms do not provide a tea & coffee machine, instead you are given a pot and told to boil water on the stove if you want to make tea or coffee ( but they do not provide tea bags or coffee). There is a very old fashioned chandelier/room light on its last wires which looked like it would fall from the ceiling any second. There was brown rust in the bath tub and the shower curtains looked dirty. Pool: the pool looks lovely in the pictures until you get there, the pool requires serious attention in terms of floor retiling as there were serious sharp chips on the flooring as well as the rocks surrounding the pool area and brown rusting ( a real health and safety concern). No ball games aloud in the pool area , there were signs which stated no swimming in the swimming pool (all very odd) Dinner: we were half board on our stay at this hotel and were told on our first day that we needed to pay for water (WATER YES WATER and was told I wasn't even allowed tap water) yet this was provided free of charge during breakfast, again very odd. So I decided to bring a water bottle with me the following day and was told by their staff that I was not allowed to have that in the dining area. Staff: VERY LIMITED ENGLISH OR NO ENGLISH AT ALL , only the reception staff spoke English and that was pretty much it. This is not a hotel that would cater to international tourist. the staff were plain and simply rude and not warming at all. During our entire stay we walked on egg shells feeling very uncomfortable as though everything we did was against hotel policy. I would personally never ever go here again and would tell my friends and family to stay clear of this hotel . This hotel is need of a serious refurbishment, equipped with a new set of staff. Very unhappy customer.

We visited Maspalomas for a week with our family and stayed in Hotel Rey Carlos. The hotel had a nice pool with a bar and a restaurant which served breakfast and differ buffets. The food was good and the staff friendly. All in all the hotel was dated, but it was good value for the money. In the ground floor of the lobby there was a massage therapist's reception (Cosimo Ferretti). I ended up reserving two times to get treatment for my sore back. Highly recommended!

There is a part of me which wants to rate this hotel higher, but another part of me which wants to knock it down. In short, if I had arrived off the coach to this hotel, passed under its entrance arch, into the medieval reception, with suits of armour and carved hand rails, and it had been in the 80's i would have been impressed. The rooms are spacious, heavily tiled and the chunky furniture, leather sofa etc all bring out the theme of a Spanish conquistador's castle. Sadly, its not the 80's - There was no working air-con outside of July and August (when its locked at 23'c), the beds are hard and feel like they are filled with straw and the whole place could do with an upgrade, broken/cracked tiles, old sockets etc. What 'Teletext Holidays' forgot to tell us was that we had not been offered the bargain 'out of season' holiday we thought we had, we had been sold an economy room in a Three star hotel, which probably puts it at around a 2 star at best (so don't be fooled like we were). However after 3 days of struggling on, we finally found out that there were other rooms available, including a 'Superior' with a soft bed. So we upgraded to another shoddily updated, but 'soft bedded' room for what was quite a nominal fee. So... the above is generally why I wanted to rate this hotel down slightly. So why does the other half of me want to rate it up. Well we did arrive with an open mind after reading some of the previous review, we decided it was going to be our adventure, we had a hire car and all we needed was a base to work from. However, in short we loved it, warts and all. The staff were lovely, helpful and accommodating, the place clean, even though it needs renovating, the food was always fresh, plenty of choice and well balanced (However, not British Full Monty). We'd planned on eating out most days but after trying it, we ate in the hotel for every breakfast and nearly every evening meal (apart from a Steak Night next door at 'El Poncho' - well worth a visit). Although the pool area is aged, its scrubbed every evening into the dark hours, the bar is pleasant and fairly priced and the loungers are in abundance. The sun comes over the hotel around 11 and stays until sunset, there are areas of natural shade under the palms and umbrellas abound. Final verdict, we gave this 3 out of 5 but both of us agreed that we would stay again if we found the right price, most likely a bit of winter sun when the air-con is not a requirement, and we would pay for the upgraded room.

The pictures make this hotel look fab and we couldn’t wait to stay here, but it is far from that. The hotel has a medieval theme and is very outdated. The rooms are very dark and most definitely need a lot of work, we only stayed one night and that was enough. Staff was not helpful when we were Checking in, we arrived at 10:30 and we’re told we had to wait for a room, we went off and had breakfast and came back nearly 2 hrs later, our room was still not ready and we were told it would be 20 minutes. 40 minutes went by and still no room, when we asked the man had forgotten about us even though we were sitting across from reception waiting. The only thing good about this place was the pool.

So me and my partner stayed here for a week all inclusive. First thing was the food absolutly terrible. There was barely any choice. The food was bland and by the time u sat down with it cold. This was in the restaurant. Theres a snack bar which is a bit better but only between 11 till 1. Which only consists of burger hotdog pizza or nuggets . The pool area is perfect . Inside the hotel is dated and the design is awful. The bedrooms windoes open onto the corridor so u can hear everysound. Obviosusly we had been hungover most days so like to sleep on which isnt really possible because of the noise of the maid cleaningthe rooms on each side of our room. The beds are unconfortable the base under the matress being a plank of wood as opposed to slats like normal beds. Not one night did i have a comfortsble sleep. O and i think theyre running out of pillows. One of the girls working at the pool bar is very very cheeky. Came over to our table and snached the ashtray to give it to an older couple alough there was about 10 empty tablrs with ashtrays and then put her hand in my partners face. We had to tell her to go away that we are guests here. All in all the hotel is clean yes but needs modernised and they really need to rethink the foos options. Being all inclusive we shouldnt have had to go hungry. We ate at the restaurant once at dinner time. And twice at lunch time. Awful
