Booked this VRBO for 3 of us headed to SA for a trip we planned weeks earlier to visit family. The host never responded to any of the several email messages I sent via VRBO's platform. He ghosted us on our check-in day and never sent me check-in details. I contacted VRBO customer support for help and they were not able to reach him by phone either. (VRBO tried calling him for 3 hours). We drove from Michigan to Texas, and 4 hours before we were scheduled to arrive in SA, VRBO had no choice but to cancel our reservation. It was very stressful realizing we did not have a place to stay when we arrived in SA, which was going to be close to midnight. VRBO did help us out with their VRBO Care policy but it was on us to find a new place to stay during our 6-day trip to SA, and we had to scramble very last-minute to find a place only hours before our arrival. VRBO did not help us find a new place, they only covered some of the cost of a new place, with restrictions in their VRBO Care policy that made it difficult to find replacement lodging for the three of us. Overall, this was a most unpleasant and very stressful experience. It turns out the weekend of our trip, there were some big events happening in SA, which we were not aware of, we were going to visit family. The listing said this was a new host and I personally believe he screwed up by privately renting his apartment (for more money) and forgot to block the listing in VRBO. Rather than do the right thing, he just ghosted us.
