Grand Bahia Principe El Portillo - All Inclusive

What a great experience, from the moment you walk into the lobby. Every single employee at this hotel is extremely caring and sweet. From the maintenance guy to the house keepers and of course your bartenders. This is a place where you will definitely feel pampered and spoiled by all of the employees.

I would definitely come back to stay here again ! The rooms were comfortable and clean. I loved that the staff is super friendly and goes out of their way to make you feel welcomed. They have plenty of water activities and events going on throughout the resort. I enjoyed my stay very much!

Great eco-friendly all inclusive resort! One of the smaller Grand Bahia resorts, this little gem seems to cater more to Canadians and Euro. Mainly b/c Samana airport is 30 mins away from resort. Americans have to go thru Santo Domingo Airport (2 1/2 hr car ride) or Puerto Plata (3 1/2hrs). Ride isn't terrible. beautiful landscape views! Buffet food is delicious (Las Dalias) and offers a lot of options. The reviews claim it's the same all the time. Nonsense! It's an all inclusive, there is variety, pick what you like and move on! We did the romantic beach dinner for my birthday ($180) Francis our waiter was lovely & amazing! They were very accommodating and helped me w/vegetarian menu based off of options from their restaurant menus. The end result was delicious! It was all a lot of food! No bar in pool but it's in front. Not a big deal to get in & out to get drinks. Pool is small but deep & clean. Snack bar and buffet had outside beach view seating. It was great to eat overlooking the beach! They offer some water sports each day for 1 hr - free. We did the snorkeling and although there is dead coral we got to see some gorgeous sea life. The beach is very well taken care of. We got a great tan! Most straw beach umbrellas were taken but wasn't a prob to get one or shade under palm trees. Drinks were too sugary but did the job. Room was spacious, clean, nice bathroom w jacuzzi & had satellite cable (HBO,etc). Room service is included! Def good buy for price

The biggest con was the distance from the airport available to us at Santo Domingo which was 2 1/2 hrs away. We rented a private van by Dominican Airport Transfers. They were very prompt, professional & safe. Price was also reasonable, I think it was around $170 rt. Anyway we got to the front desk & was helped immediately. I paid for a jr king suite & requested a room close to lobby & 1st floor. They gave me the jr king suite but on 2nd flor & far away from the lobby. My room was 27216. Was a little disappointed but then learned they gave me the new area & my location was nice. Room was really nice & was always cleaned & the mini fridge was always stacked up & it was FREE! My room had a big king size bed & had a small sofa bed for my small 11 yr old daughter. The room was in perfect condition & it was perfect for us. Beach was beautiful, always was able to find a seat. Sand was soft & water was clear and warm. There was some people selling but were not pushy like in Puerto Plata or Punta Cana. Pool was nice. Found seats at times but was pretty good considering the hotel was fully booked. Food was good & always available. There were two buffets. 1 that was opened mostly throughout the day, Las Olas, it was on the beach & the other had it's usual times. There were restaurants, Italian, Brazilian which were good. The seafood was ok & we didn't get to the French. The animation team & shows were fun. Kids club was fun 9a-5p. Movie & mini disco at night for kids. Daughter loved it!

I loved this resort shout out to the entertainment staff and reception they are phenomenal!,,,definitely I will be going back

The resort is great, staff is awesome and it's kid friendly and enjoyable! Loved the food !

Call in April to arrange my room request and come to August to find mistakes that we ready spoke.about. but thanks God they have Mr. AMILCAR. in that place and after that Vacation. Perfect .

They should have free WiFi because you paying to be there in the hotel. Wifi should be free at least. Thank you. Internet was my biggest concern when I was there. Other than that it was good. I would love to go back. Hopefully there's free WiFi the whole time, not just for an hour that didn't even work .. Thank you. Good luck.

All I have to say my son was sooooo happy....thank you

We have just returned from a week long stay (May 23-30). We had an absolutely incredible time! I have traveled a lot and have to say that this beach can challenge Santorini! Incredible location and nature! The hotel is perfect for a relaxing vacation. The staff is very friendly and the food was good! The rooms are new and clean. Overall an incredible time!

food was great, service was great, transfer from the airport to the hotel was an unexpected great expense of $300. later found out jet blue flies to Samana, the only airline that does.Other than that , cant complain about anything.my wife and I had a great time going there for some r&r and got it. wish we could have stayed longer

Comfortable stay, pretty decent food for AI, wonderful beach.

I had fun at the The Grand Bahia Principe El Portillo. But there wasn't anything special about the hotel. The food wasn't great, the drinks were mediocre, and the spa massage was terrible. Everything seemed just slightly dated, musky, and had thin layer of filth. It was outright dirty, but it was present. The grounds are decently well kept.

I just came back from my vacation at grand bahia de principe el portillo with my family we have only good thing to say food was good buffet was excellent every effort is made from staff to make sure you are happy

perfect holiday for little money. You can see a lot of interesting.

Best food in a all resort hotel. Staff were great and perfect location.

i was very impress with this hotel wow the food was great and i cant think of anything bad about it. 5 min ride to el centro de las terrenas which was also great

When we arrived at El Portillo, they had no record of our reservation and it took quite a while to check in. Then when we arrived in our room it had 2 full sized beds (instead of a king, as requested). When we immediately asked the staff to switch our rooms bc of the 2 full sized beds they told us they were all full and couldn't do it, but promised to change our room the next day. When asked if there was anything else they could do the staff said that they would give us a "special gift" which we never received. The room also smelled of mold, and our shower broke while we were taking a shower. Additionally, there was loud construction going on. Checkout was also a big problem and the staff gave us the wrong information.

We had trouble with things like hot water and air conditioning in our room. The bathroom had no ventilation and the fan was broken. The toilet would not flush solids very well. The buffet was fine, but it was impossible to get beverages, especially if you sat outside. We asked multiple servers, in different languages for water, wine, tea or decaf coffee. Perhaps they are understaffed. The water sports equipment was okay, but the wind surfer gave us splinters of fiberglass, and was a poor quality board. The dive equipment was marginal. No life jackets, water or snacks on the dive boat. There was only a 20 minute surface interval. I would never go back, and I would not recommend the diving. We were taken to the sister hotel, 45 minutes away to try and watch whales. The boat went out during very stormy weather. Other boats turned back, and were given a rain check. It was not worth it and we were miserable. I saw more vomit than whales. If you do go on excursions, take food and water on your excursions as you are left cold, hungry and thirsty, waiting for a ride, and you will likely miss lunch. The beach was not relaxing as vendors bothered you constantly. There are armed guards on the beach. If you don't speak Spanish, this is not a good place to be. Many nationalities and topless bathing. The magic show was good, but entertainment started late.

This hotel is a fantastic hotel, I propose to my girlfriend with a romantic dinner at the beach. Was perfect!!
