I stayed near by the Sokos Hotel Kuusamo and had breakfast and lunch over there. The breakfast was plentiful and tasty. Also lunch was good even when the menu was not exactly what I craved for. Staff was friendly and the restaurant was spacious.
Participated in a seminary during a weekend. I this place in the very relaxing and nice Kuusamo was a perfect choice. The hotel is easy to find, close to the main street to central city. It is big so space for even bigger events possible to arrange. The rooms are extremely clean and well equipped, still in the room I did stay in unfortunately had not a very nice view outside. Seemed to be in a direction more to the backyard. Because the building itself is only few floors high, there is quite long corridors to walk, of course depending how close to the reception desk it is located. The breakfast is a normal Finnish hotel breakfast, which is good and full of choices for everyone. We had lunch also during the two days stay and could say it tasted as good homemade food with a large salad buffet. I liked the hotel so can warmly recommend it for you as well.
We stayed a couple of nights as part of a group trip. We found the staff unfriendly. Our bags had to be hauled up a big flight of steps. There was no tea/coffee in the room. Only twin beds available. Food was poor and served with little care/pride. The staff were keen to close the restaurant on our last night and flashed the lights at 9pm to emphasise the point. Not recommended.
Stayed here for 4 nights as part of a small group doing wildlife photography in the region. Rooms are quite basically furnished, but they are clean, comfortable and have multi channel TV and free, fast wifi and, importantly, hot and plentiful en-suite showers. Breakfast buffet and evening meals were wholesome, tasty and also plentiful. The staff are welcoming and helpful and the reception staff especially attentive. For what we were doing this was an ideal place to stay.
Very nice staff that helped us a lot in planning our stay, all very friendly. The room was comfortable and the hotel is nice and quiet. The hotel is close to the airport and 30mn from Ruka. there is a bus shuttle to Ruka, it's 7 euros pp and I would advise to rent a car if staying for a few days as it can get very expensive to take taxis. Wifi was great and available everywhere in the hotel. The cross country ski track is 50m behind the hotel around the lake and the equipment you can rent from the reception is very good. One point that I would suggest to be improved is the variation in the breakfast. We stayed 5 nights and we had exactly the same every day for breakfast, would be nice to have different options from time to time.Would also be great to have a kettle in the room so we could have a cup of tea when returning from the ski, I found it incredible to be charged 1.30 euros for a hot cup of water (without tea !!), it would be appreciated as it is already an expensive destination.
Only stayed the one night before heading off to Russia, central localtion, clean rooms and free WiFi, which worked in all corners of the hotel. Very friendly staff and check in / out was easy. Excellent selection of food for breakfast as well.
I got a taxi from the airport for 20euros and found the hotel was quite central. I'd booked a twin room but was given a single with my own private sauna in the bathroom, which was nice and no extra cost! the room was very clean, bed quite comfortable and some european channels on the tv. the only negative was the few sockets on the walls but I unplugged the lights and tv to charge my camera and phones. the water in the shower was hot and the hairdryer was a real one!! not one of those hotel dryers which don't dry! breakfast was complete with local dishes. reception staff friendly and helpful. free wifi excellent
It was by far the worst accommodation in your hotel. The conduct of security personnel was unacceptable. Every evening from 9.30pm chased our children to go to their beds. We had a nightmarish evening 31/12 the advent of the new year, we called the local police to explain the unacceptable behavior of your staff. After we stayed in Rovaniemi where hospitality was much better ... Also three nights we stayed at the hotel, the cleanliness of the room was limited only to empty the baskets of the room. They not changed no sheets or towels and of course not squared room any day.
This was the second time in this hotel. Service was again good. Staff is really friendly. We had a room with sauna. IT takes about 40min to get the sauna the good level of heat. Room could have been a bit more clean. There was dust everywhere. Otherwise it was clean. Beds were good to sleep. Hope they would refresh these rooms and it would be more cosy. Breakfast at the restaurant was not that good as it was before. What happened? If you wish to ski at Ruka there is a skibus to Ruka everyday costs around 5e
Hotel is pretty near to the highway so we decided to make our stop here. We'd to wait a little while for the lady in the reception to emerge from her hide. She obviously wasn't thrilled to have few asking about discount room reservation. Service on reception, even on my standards, was cold and excessively slow. Room for three, which we had, was worn but with wooden trim something that i like. The punched key card lock on the door was a flash from the past. Hotel restaurant "Hotku" in terms of service and looks gave nice impression, but the food in this case did not. We all had reideer burgers, which didn't look like burgers. Buns were something you get from Lidl, and patty was repulsive. Next time gas station burger than this.
