The most disappointing experience in my lifetime of travel. The front desk is rude and unhelpful. Every encounter with them was negative. They never smile and are very clearly unhappy people. I went off season and paid over $500 for two nights. The hotel was very empty and yet the clerk insisted on giving us the worst room in the place. The room is a tiled up dated and more motel looking. It seemed to please the front desk clerk to stick to us with the room. She put the mandatory wrist band on in front of the security guy with a gun. I seriously felt like I was in North Korea . No one there smiles. The staff in the dining room was much more cordial. The dining area was staffed well and they were much better than the front desk. The food was not to my liking but available most of the day. The bartenders were really off the charts. One older guy was not friendly or happy but would serve us. The two young ones were hostile. I watched them angrily serve guests and never smile or even be personable with the clients. The one by the upstairs pool looked like he wanted to fight somebody. The bar is included and Barcelo does not want people hanging around the bar long. Hiring those pitbull bartenders keeps people away. Maybe the work conditions are hard and the pay is low but I got the feeling no one working at Barcelo Salinas wants to be there. I traveled from the other side of the world by airplane. Took a 3 hour car ride there. I get one vacation a year. Barcelo Salinas could care less. Why not give me a decent room when the hotel is empty? Why be so angry and hostile at the bars? It's my only vacation and I spent so much money and time to see you and you can't even smile and treat your guests special? I found Ecudorians to be friendly and warm in Quito and Guayaquil. Unfortunately the Barcelo in Salinas does not share in that pride. I always try to learn something from my bad experiences. I sat at the rooftop pool and think the view there is breathtaking . I could not understand how the bartender could sit there so unhappy. He was in the spot everybody is traveling around the world to see. Yet he can not enjoy the paradise because of something inside himself. I guess you realize hapiness is not a location, it is a state of mind. T
Clean, excellent food. Employees are courteous. they make you feel just like home. I will come back every time, I'm in Salinas. Hotel is 100% better than decameron punta centinela. the room views to the ocean, are superb. comfort is the key & you get it in Barcelo, too bad I stayed one day this time around. They have remodeled the hotel is absolutely beautiful, 2 swimming pools, very close to the beach. I love it hear, my favorite hotel in salinas.
The Barcelo Colon is a 4 star hotel/residence. The perfect location on the Malecon. Great bar and restaurant on-site. Good proximity to other venues and beach. Stayed in the condo residence section. All the amenities of the hotel plus extra privacy.
Pros: 1- Comfort is the key! 2- Elegant setting 3- Professional and kind staff 4- Free Wifi, oh lord so much needed! 5- Great location. It's located in the middle of Salinas strip or Malecón. 6- Fantastic place to come to Celebrate New Year's!!! 🎉🍷🍾
We stayed 1 week in an appart ocean view very kind big and confortable, all personal were amazing. The only problem was the permanent engine noise. In the 3th floor exist a big salon in face to the hotel tower next to the pool, their roof have many and big air conditioner's engines. The noise was terrible and 24h non stop, well stop 15min the wenesday night, it's possible hear the engines more than two blocks. We was facing the ocean but for the noise seems we sleep in a factory. I hope the hotel fix that, because is a nice place very confortable. Exist many kind of engine mufflers they can use to reduce the problem. the best option is move the engines but that will be expensive. At the same time who was the genius with the idea to put the engines in the middle of the hotel and not in the tower's roof???
The price of the hotel is very expensive and it's not worth it. The beach near the hotel is very good and the pool too. workers are very friendly.the hotel is not near any mall or restaurant but the food of the hotel is very good. El costo es mucho para lo que es el hotel y los servicios que ofrece.
Been visiting Salinas, Ecuador for almost 20 years!!! First time I got to stay overnight at The Barcelo. Room was clean, roomy with a balcony and great view!! Went down to the restaurant almost at closing time, however Geovanny came right up to me and welcomed me to help myself to the buffet (at a reduced price because they were putting the food away) and had the fresh juices I requested made perfectly!!! He was so friendly and helpful and then again at breakfast greeted us again and had a pitcher of maracuya juice freshly made and it was so delicious!! He is a wonderful man and so delightful, the Barcelo is lucky to have him. Would love to visit again. Thank you.
This is very much a family beach hotel, popular with locals, so bring a Spanish phrase book or Google Translate if you don't speak Spanish. I booked a single room and got the biggest room I have ever seen, 11 metres by 6 overall. In addition to the large bedroom with triple bed and TV, there were two bathrooms, a large dining/sitting room with another TV, a hall, laundry room (empty), and a dressing room, with very tall ceilings, all modern, minimalist, new, and clean. Also a 6 metre balcony yards from the sea. Efficient air conditioning. All meals were self-service buffet and very tasty, a good mix of traditional and more international dishes. Oddly enough wifi was extra, and in my room only worked in the hall - the price you pay for all that space. The hotel is right in the middle of the sea front.
The staff is very friendly and willing to help. The all-inclusive buffet selection is boring bland food and drinks are weak. There are three pools: one kind of "T" shape at the main building and two other rectangular at roof top located across the street beach side. Evening karaoke was loud and cheesy. We stayed in a 1-bedroom suite...the interior was finished with mostly muted color with one wall bold color, tile floor, and basic wicker furniture and cheap bathroom fixtures... 3-stars by American standards but cleaner than expected.
A three night stay in a very nice room with a view of the beach where we could relax. We normally don't stay at an all inclusive resort and I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of great breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. It was the slow season so we almost had the place to ourselves the first night and easy access to the pools, food, tables, and everything while we were there. The service was great and we really enjoyed the stay.
