Parador de Salamanca

My wife and I this year decided to take our car across to Bilbao on the Cap Finistere and do a tour of northern Spain and Portugal. The second hotel on our tour was the Parador de Salamanca situated on the valley side opposite the city. Our satnav took us to within 50 metres of the Parador and the signs guided us in, reception was light and airy with the receptionist speaking good english, and we were quickly booked in and shown to out room which was very modern in complete contrast to the Parador at Pisuerga . At reception we were given a map of Salamanca and advised that it was easy to walk into the city, despite my wife using a stick, the walk was down across the river(across the Roman bridge) and up into the city. My wife managed easily and the sights were well worth it. We had booked a table in the restaurant and were given a window table with views across to valley to the cathedral, the food was as expected with attentive waiters.

Firstly I must stress that we love Paradors, have stayed in quite a few across Spain and were very excited to be visiting Salamanca. What a disappointment! Firstly it is a modern hotel, with wonderful views across the river. It has an excellent swimming pool. It is a 15 minute walk from the old city and has plently of car parking spaces. However, we found the staff apart from one lady who worked in the dining and cafe area, to be unfriendly and unhelpful. We are 'Amigos' of the Parador chain but despite this had to almost argue the point. We were overcharged twice in the bar/cafe area. The room was spacious but the cleaning left a little bit to be desired. The worst thing was that are room was plagued by mosiquitos and both my husband and I werevery badly bitten. The hotel was very aware of the problem and the rooms were sprayed but we had to beg for ours to be done. On checking out we were asked in an off hand manner ' did you have a different room?' but we weren't even offered an alternative. We won't be staying there again and sadly I wouldn't recommend it.

My husband and I stay here nearly every year en route to Portugal. Salamanca is the most special place ever, just remarkable. We always stay at the parador which is great value and very nice..... however... every year I forget how truly awful the pillows are! The beds are very hard and the pillows like sleeping on a box of cornflakes! We both wake up in the morning with a headache. I've complained before to the parador directly. Also, very little English is spoken in the restaurant which makes it difficult to order .

Excellent hotel, good service, what is there not to like? Stayed in Junior suite, very spacious. Eat one night in restaurant, very good food and service. Fabulous pool. Breakfast good and varied though I would have like some fresh vegetable e.g tomatoes, but plenty of fresh fruit.

Plenty of car parking. Good reception staff. We had a very large bedroom and bathroom, all clean. Great views from the restaurant, bar area. 15 mins walk into town over the old roman bridge. Breakfast was good as my omelette was cooked to order at the buffet bar, We found the dinner in the restaurant disappointing and rather pricey although the setting was excellent, if we stayed again we would eat out in town. Would definitely stay here again.

Although not a traditional/heritage Parador, we loved this hotel with its large picture windows overlooking the Cathedral and University. The historic centre of Salamanca is walkable, which is a real plus.

We have stayed at this Parador several times, with rooms overlooking the old town. This time we booked through our new Amigos card, on the special Golden Days package, for retired people. We got an excellent deal, but we're very disappointed to find we were assigned to a smaller room overlooking the car park, and not on the side of the hotel overlooking the old town. Otherwise, the facilities were as good as usual and the breakfast excellent. We walked into the town for dinner, via the terraced garden and across the old Roman bridge.

We decided that it might be nice to visit this parador for a coffee and to enjoy the view. We were not disappointed. There are lots of places that have great views of the city, but this one is at a much higher elevation than most. Go at sunset or later

Stopped for two nights on a tour of Spain - ample, free car parking. Worth paying the extra 9 Euro per night to have the view of the city. Good breakfast selection. Room clean and comfortable. Takes about 20 minutes to walk to the old town for a meal/bars. Nice pool area too.

The Paramore chain of hotels pride themselves on giving guest a real touch of Spain and they really do so in Salamanca. Our room was very spacious, very well set up with everything we needed. Not luxurious but nice. Good bathroom and comfortable bed. Each floor of the hotel has 2 lounge areas for guests use which is a nice thing to have for private drinks. We had dinner in the restaurant and really enjoyed the meal which was very Spanish and beautifully presented. Breakfast was also very good. Lovely grounds surrounding the hotel with a beautiful pool. Staff very friendly and anxious to please. A lengthy walk into Salamanca so we decided to drive in to visit this lovely old town. We would recommend this hotel if you have a car.
